While the page won't load on my phone, I remember the Powerhouse Museum having a better overview and history of the weapon.

IIRC, the issues were poor manufacturing and the hydraulic rate of fire reducer.

San don't know shit

Okay another question. Why was segmentata (or an evolved segmentata) never owned by wealthy people during the migration period or even the middle ages? It's not like they didn't know about it, right? It's much better at protecting the torso than just mail, so why not have a segmentata-alike with mail sleeves and a skirt?

If it would be unsuitable for infantry due to weight, it would work fine for cavalry.

Most probably didn't know about it. The generic term for any kind of armour in Latin was "lorica", with the identifiers being added in the 19th century. Segmantata was also well out of use by the Migration Period, so both direct knowledge of it and knowledge of how to make it has been lost by the times you're speaking about.

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

According to Christine de Pizan, over 200 cannon - the smallest firing a 100lb stone - are ideally needed in order to beseige a castle manner by 600 men. Further, only 1/3 of the powder should already be made, with the remaining 2/3 kept as separate components and only mixed when needed.

The term 'bulletproof' originates from blacksmiths firing a pistol into a plate of armor to demonstrate that it was proof against bullets. Surviving Renaissance-era suits of armor can be seen to often have a dent in them, which is the proof mark.

And in true hollywood fashion the buyer wore the armour during the test and was comically thrown off their feet by the bullet.

There were over 300 guns as Castillon and, of course, Christine is only giving the ideal situation. Probably most of the lesser guns would have been under 100lbs.

That seems logical I suppose-but at what point does one draw the line at which the trebuchet is less efficient than the cannon?

And morover "the smallest"- how many? And how many of each tier of mass?

Purpelia wrote:Fine, here is one for you specifically. The AKS-74U and similar short weapons. What if any are your experiences and opinions on them? I don't recall you ever mentioning them.

I'm pretty sure I've gushed my love for the AKS-74U before. I just adore it. I just generally love short barreled weapons in honesty-theres something so dreadfully serious about a 30cm≤ barrel, something so tough about it, so imposing. Everyone hates the concept of an all controlling impressive dictatorship-but there's always something so cool about them, you know? That's what the Short Barrel rifles (especially Kalashnikovs) are like to me. They have that look of just imperialistic control, they're this kind of black boot of the gun world to me.

The AKS-74U is one of my favorite rifles. It's not an excellent choice as a standard issue weapon but, in my policing experience, I immensely loved the combat pain train that was my Ukorochenniy Kalashnikova- my malyshka. It was light, it was fast, it was mean. I bought 8 RPK-74 magazines at what then was probably about $40 each for it, and I would keep them ready for situations where I needed them. I called it a snair drum. It was my rock and roll.
When they took her away I was pretty bummed. I got over it though.

Tbh I don't necessarily disagree
Ideal length for all barrels to me is between 380mm to 500mm for most cartridges, acceptable max is 600mm
Though carbiness at 300-360 are Image

Latest revisions to Sevvanian tank-hunting rifle.

I'm looking for suggestions/ideas on what it could fire. My current criteria are:
•Cartridge may be realworld or fictional.
•Must be suitable for big game hunting c.1895.
•Kinda want something that's at least .45 caliber.
•Must be able to penetrate at least 15mm of armor at 100m.
•Wadcutter-esque rounds would be acceptable, because reversed bullets.

You could have issues fitting certain large cartridges, but Frod 25x100mm

I'm sure if you give it a steel core it would eat tanks.

25mm is a bit higher than I wanna go, given the era and intent behind the weapon. It's a civilian hunting rifle from the late 19th century that was repurposed and utilized in a limited capacity against tanks during WWI. So it's not really something that should be eating tanks, so much as maybe slobbering all over them between occasional bites.
