Discussion of how wounding effects/processes changed as we moved from musket balls to minie balls to smaller calibre lead projectiles driven by smokeless powder to FMJ ammo from "Full power full calibre" rifle cartridges onto modern small calibre high velocity rifle projectiles.

If that's too broad perhaps focusing on the late 19th/early 20th century transition would be awesome but if course if there is anything else related that you would find more interesting to sperg on that is of course also cool.

Could be fun, but that's a "McCrudden Machine Gun"; It's excess of moving parts killed it, that and the Commonwealth just doesn't like "cool things" outside of the SMLE or some-shit.

Arrow trauma.

That's a difficult thing for me to really give any significant, meaningful sperg on. Much if it is going to be conjecture as I have neither studied significantly the trauma imparted on individuals as a result of an arrow wound, nor have I ever seen a significant injury caused as the result of an arrow in a clinical setting.

My first assumsion is that the standard arrows wound cavity is going to be smaller than that of most bullets by virtue of its inability to destabilize and malform in any meaningful manner during its terminal stage. However, this doesn't mean it couldn't produce a significant injury; in fact it does, as is evidenced by their historical use and current use as a hunting weapon.

Though firearms are simply superior at causing wounds, the arrows injury I would expect to be not all dissimilar from the continued perforation of a large caliber bullet traveling at reletivly high speeds: A wide, singular channel reletivly uniform in shape. The arrow, I expect, does not totally penetrate the body resulting in no exit wound, unless fired at close range or by a reletivly powerful bow. The existance of such a large foreign body within the patient would present a complication in surgical repair and removal of the arrow and its associated wound.

Purely conjecture, but the arrow wound would not have remote wounding effects like bullets can produce. The disruption of fluid continuum as a result of hydrollic force simply doesn't exist in the same reguard with an arrow as it does a bullet due to inherit differences in mechanism and velocities. The effect would be there, but almost certainly not in the same way as a bullets already debatable presence and certainly not in measurable amount.

The wounds volume would depend on the type of arrowhead and arrow used and as such its untrue to say the single tract channel would be wider than that of a bullet, but I can generally assume the typical arrowhead diameter would be wider than that of the most typically rounds encountered in shootings. Unlike with gunshots the arrows wound in a non-vital areas does not present a threat of hemorrhaging in remote areas; however, the wounds large volume (for an 'icepick' type wound) does certainly present a risk of greater decreases in blood pressure and, eventually, death, as a result.

Treatment should be immediate imaging of the wound if possible. The assessment of the arrows depth and any vital structures it may have damaged are two highly important considerations, along with the very real possibility that the arrow may be used as a vector for a biological or toxic element to infect the patient.

The arrow, barring a perfect clean though and through of a non vital area (I.e, arm, hand, foot, leg below the knee) will necessitate surgery to remove. The only three instances of arrow wound I have ever seen have been hand, wrist and foot, all of which were remidied by removal of the arrow via cutting of the shaft and simply pulling it through after local anesthesia. Follow up surgeries were necessary to repair muscular and nervous damage.

In short, the arrows wound is not as significant as a gunshot wound in many instances but should not be taken lightly. It's likely wide in diameter and may result in significant hemoraging, and will require surgery to remove in non-extemity (I.e: lower limb) areas. Though it may not be immediately incapacitating, the wound should be taken as seriously as any other combat orintated injury; I would say it's more in line with a stabbing wound than a gunshot wound.
