While it was only fairly recently discovered that the Hyggemata are a Germanic people, the Hyggemata themselves have been rather keen on keeping outsiders out of their communities for centuries. Fortunately, they had a primitive concept of prevention of birth defects, and as such, as small as their community was, they avoided inbreeding and other unsound nuptial practises. The Hyggemata are now generally thought to be descended from a Germanic tribe that wandered into northern Themiclesia some time during the 8th C. B.C.E. While the Themiclesians kept very good records about the arrival of the Hyggemata, all we have from the latter are brief passages that recount the constant, migratory life of the Hyggemata, who apparently knew no enemy amongst the other tribes of various ethnic origins in that area, prior to defeat by the Themiclesians, who had by then enjoyed the fruits of civilization for millennia.

Prior to and during the Second World War, Germany sought out the Hyggemata, whom they regarded as having the purest heritage known from the myth of the Aryan; part of this ascription was to the credit of the appearance and lifestyle of the Hyggemata. Historically, the Hyggemata have been described by the Themiclesian chroniclers as having the cosmetic characteristics that agreed with the assumptions of the Nazis; those features have largely been conserved. A large number of Hyggematic men were transported, by a combination of coercion and lure, to Germany in order to foster a "pure" posterity for that country, by elevating the "purity" in the veins of the Germans, which was estimated at about 50~70%, against a "scientific" standard published by the state-commissioned academia. According to this scale, the Hyggemata were considered to be 95-100% pure.

As this happened, the Themiclesians simply stood by and let their plan unfold. Themiclesia was originally an Axis power, but the royal court knew that it was but a façade; if Themiclesia was Allied from the beginning, she would take massive damages to her territories due to her relatively uncared for defences; however, the Themiclesians knew that the Germans had waged an unwinnable war, and by starting on their side, without contributing too much, they were in a position to reap much benefit in the form of reparations that could reasonably certainly be anticipated while avoiding the carnage of war. Exactly as planned, the war turned against the Germans in early 1943, and on Feb. 1st, 1943, Themiclesia officially decided to switch sides. Before they did this, intelligence ascertained the understanding that racist thought in Germany had reach such incredible lengths that the Hyggemata, even officially as part of Themiclesia, would not be persecuted though their mother country had turned against Germany. Again, exactly as planned, the Hyggemata were catapulted into the limelight as the saviour of the master race, that had escaped the "taint of degenerate Themiclesian civilization".

Feelings in Hyggema (the state, part of Themiclesia, which is a union of states) were mixed at this. On the one hand, the Themiclesians, from a historical perspective, had the credit of introducing civilization to the Hyggemata, who, without the Themiclesians, would probably have remained on a similar level of development as the other Germanic tribes in the Roman Era; on the other hand, it was also argued that the Themiclesian nobles had simply used the Hyggemata as a "puppet" in order to prevent the Germans from invading initially and turning against the Germans when their utility had expired; further, it was also the Germans who argued that the Hyggemata were the master race amongst the master race, and the Hyggemata liked that status. A prominent personality in Hyggema open accused the royal court of using treachery, especially during war, as a means to an end, which the Hyggemata, due to historical reasons, thought inexcusable. The Prime Minister of Themiclesia, however, famously replied, "There is no treachery in diplomacy, and war is but a prong of diplomacy. We strive, of course, to be loyal and mutual friends; we just shouldn't let that get in the way of our foreign policy."

Into 1945, the rhetoric in Germany became increasingly fatalistic in the face of impending defeat. The Hyggemata already in Germany were treated with mounting luxury and preference, as the leader of the German government conceded that the war was lost. At the eve before his suicide, he told his favourite Hyggematic bodyguards, "Go, go before it is too late; we did out best, but that destiny is not ours. The duty to preserve and propagate the purity in not only your body but your hearts and souls is now in your hands. One day, the master race will rise, and unlike today, to stand in eternity, above everything that has ever existed, even above Themiclesia, which has ruled the world from its schools, workshops, and businesses for the better part of history. I foresee a great nation, made up of a pure race, that dwarfs everything that this world has known; that nation will be yours. I hope we have done enough to inspire you to everything to which we were inspired, because you, by nature, are destined to be the masters of the world."

From a financial, economic, and political perspective, the war was a runaway success. Again, Themiclesia had managed to keep competitor nations from rising, and again that was achieved by her deft diplomats and visionary politics. The Hyggemata returning to Themiclesia, however, saw the situation through a very different lens. They thought Themiclesia had actually betrayed themselves, but they dared not publicise these sentiments. Immediately after the war, after the atrocities committed by the Germans became public, they had to rely on Themiclesia to keep their share of atrocity to themselves. The Hyggematic soldiers were uninhibited in their operational excess, and wherever they went, civilian massacres followed. The Germans praised them for "having no compassion for weaklings", which was compatible with the theory of social darwinism that dictated Nazi thought. Now, after that was thoroughly discredited, they had to rely on Themiclesia's royal court to buy them back their international standing as a people. In 1993, after the leak of the war-time Prime Minister's diaries, the suspicions of the Hyggematic nationalists were substantiated, as evidenced in the diary, "this is a foolproof enterprise... at one stroke we annihilate German aggression, and we leash our pawn with which we solicit them into their destruction. War is soon to be declared; the sooner the better... for the sooner the sooner they shall be defeated and us victorious."

The Hyggematic nationalists were outraged, and their activities have resulted in endless problems in Themiclesia.

Most other Themiclesians do not view it the same way; they assert that the Prime Minister knew that the Hyggemata could never have been harmed in the process, and which is why he chose to undertake this plan. In addition, the Germans would have picked up on the Hyggemata with their racist theories in any case. After all, the Hyggemata were unharmed and never in a position of more peril than the rest of Themiclesia.
