Mass protests explode across Kadule

[OOC note: if you respond to this by trying to invade Kadule / nuke it I will ignore you as I'm treating this as a realistic event, if you want to impose trade sanctions, etc, that is perfectly fine]

Where Have All The Flowers Gone?:

A law has recently been passed in Kadule, it gives the police and military orders to execute "traitors to the Republic" (violent, defiant, repeated and leaders of anti-leadership protests that disrupt the economy). This was done in an attempt to prevent disruptions to the economy and to reduce prison overcrowding.

It was supported by the PLPCK and the Coalizão do Direito, who run the government in an unofficial alliance.

It was opposed by the RCPK, the PL, the PSEK and the فسبحان الله, who vowed to fight the move and take to the streets. When the law passed the politicians of these parties walked out of the Senate and the National Assembly on masse. The controversial law has been opposed even by a number of PLPCK and Coalizão do Direito supporters. The core party supporters have supported it however, speaking about the importance of the economy running effectively.

The politicians and protestors have taken to the streets and have vowed to "shut down the nation and make it ungovernable". Police and military units are being called on to shut down the protest, but they may face massive issues with this, with the "Zamoharu" (meaning "Red Freedom"), the illegal paramilitary wing of the RCPK, vowing that any police or military forces who try arrest or hoot at protestors, especially those who enter the RCPK slums in the capital of Mabetshwa "will not escape with their lives".

With workers shutting down businesses, students shutting schools and universities and common people, beggars and the homeless shutting down city streets, massive clashes between police and protestors look set to erupt. Some businesses, especially those whose CEOs are supporters of the Neoliberal PL, have willingly shut down, and have vowed to remain closed until the law is overturned.

This is seen as a breaking point in Kadule, where abject poverty, corruption, police and military abuse and suppression of protests has been building tension for decades.

The majority of the government and people in New Socialist South Africa condemn this dictatorial law. We stand with the protestors and, while we hope they remain peaceful, if the police and military engage in violence they should be resisted through whatever means necessary.

The government is in the process of declaring trade sanctions on Kadule, and has temporarily withdrawn all South African officials from the Island, and is calling on any South Africans visiting or working there to temporarily leave and is imposing a travel ban from South Africa to Kadule, recommending no South Africans travel there until the law is overturned.

Violence Erupts as Protesters March on Parliament

At least 32 protesters and 3 police have been killed in a clash outside the Parliament of Kadule in the Capital of Mabetshwa. Over 400 protestors have also been arrested for protests all over the city, and in other cities.

The RCPK, the PL, the PSEK and the فسبحان الله have vowed to not attend parliament until the law is repealed. Despite this, the PLPCK and the Coalizão do Direito vowed to go on with parliamentary businesses, having enough together to make quorum. The protestors refused to allow these parties to force through new laws while the harsh execution of protestors laws remain, and have vowed to shut parliament down.

The Yangona-Seko Casa, the headquarters of the PLPCK, just across the road from the Parliament, has had some windows broken and had its gate pulled off its hinges by protestors, including young dissatisfied PLPCK supporters, demanding that their voices be heard. The security forces and veterans of Vermelho Verão (Red Summer), the paramilitary wing of the PLPCK, drove the protestors away, killing 7, injuring and helping arrest many others.

Barricades are going up in the RCPK slums, where the "Zamoharu" (meaning "Red Freedom"), the illegal paramilitary wing of the RCPK, have vowed to "fight for freedom to the last drop of blood".

Battle Between Police and Armed Protestors Rages

7 members of Zamoharu, 22 armed protestors and 14 police have been killed in a violent clash in the slums of Mabetshwa. Police had been ordered to call in Senador Betshwa Wofumeji, leader of the RCPK, to be bought in for questioning, wanted on charges of encouraging and taking part in illegal protests and violence against the state. Senador Betshwa Wofumeji has taken shelter in the Casa do Revolução, RCPK headquarters in the slums of Mabetshwa.

When police came to remove him, they were met by protestors and Zamoharu who told them they had no authority here anymore, and to turn back. A clash quickly evolved, and police were forced to flee under overwhelming fire from numerous slum windows.

The army has been called in to bring Wofumeji in, now on charges of Treachery.

The RCPK has responded by declaring the current government illegitimate and declaring a people's war on it. Reports of Zamoharu operatives targeting PLPCK and Coalizão do Direito supporters across the country, particularly in Mabetshwa, are starting to stream in.

Arioslavia calls all sides of conflict in Kadule to stop violence. We are constantly monitoring the situation. We demand from the government of Kadule a protection of our embassy as well as all Arioslavian citizens in Kadule.

Also, Arioslavia wishes to act as a mediator. We invite represants of all political parties in Kadule (except Islamists) to our capital Telgrad for peace talks.

Providing no injury is done by the protesters to innocent people and their property, we support the protesters in any measures they take to vindicate their liberty.

Presidente Vukine Zulgwona has vowed to protect the Arioslavian embassy and Arioslavian citizens in Kadule, offering all of them a safe haven in the embassy, sending troops to patrol the streets outside the embassy. He has stated however that "Kadule does not negotiate with terrorists", and has demanded that Senador Betshwa Wofumeji surrender himself to the authorities for a fair trial.

Senador Betshwa Wofumeji has stated we will order a end to violence and attend talks if the government order the police and military to call off their attacks.

Senador Anibal Jegojuzi, the leader of the PL has agreed that he will attend the talks if the government halts the violence.

Membro do Parlamento Tina Shashihojaka, leader of PSEK, has said she will not attend any peace talk that excludes any of the related parties, referring to the choice by Arioslavia to not invite the Islamist فسبحان الله.

Membro do Parliament Kalil Nejem, leader of فسبحان الله has stated that any peace talks they are excluded from will not be valid and that they will go on fighting until they are heard in such talks.

We are satisfied by President's efforts to protect our citizens.

We mantain our stance in terms of condition of the talks. We are dissapointed and surprised by PSEK leader's statements. We do not see a point in defending the islamists by PSEK. We perceive islamism as an extremist, anti-progressive ideology (as we have experience with it in Shershenia, one of our autonomous republics) and this is the reason of our attitude towards them. However, we mantain our invitation, also for representatives of parties that are not in Kadulian parliament.

Membro do Parlamento Tina Shashihojaka stands by her statement, saying that a peace deal would not be a peace deal if one of the sides involved was completely excluded, arguing that this would just lead to a continuation of conflict.

Even then, no peace deal looks set to happen soon, with the government refusing to call off the police and army and the protestors vowing to go on protesting until the government does so.

The Arioslavian government is highly dissapointed by PSEK leader's statement, as we would like to see PSEK as an important factor in creating the post-conflict order in Kadule. The Central Comitee and Politbiuro of the Communist Party of Arioslavia questions whether PSEK is still a progressive leftist force, as PSEK's policy of allying with muslim reactionary movements makes it highly questionable. It can make PSEK and CPA co-operation on international grounds impossible.

In our opinion, an Interim National Unity Government should be created in Kadule.

Membro do Parlamento Tina Shashihojaka has stated that the PSEK is, unlike the CPA it seems, a party committed to democracy. Excluding a faction in a peace negotiation is not the move of a democratic force, it is the move of a dictatorial organisation seeking to further its own ends. The PSEK has little love for the فسبحان الله, but state that excluding them from peace talks due to a political disagreement is an infantile move that will not yield true peace.

President Vukine Zulgwona and Senador Martinho Morokenja have opposed the idea of an Interim National Unity Government. They argue that they were fairly elected in democratic elections, and that the opposition should stop acting like children and throwing a tantrum whenever they don't get their way.

Our nation fully supports the PLPCK and the Coalizão do Direito and its new law. Actually we have the same law in our nation because it helps to maintain the public order.
We decided that we will help the government of Kadule with everything we can no matter if it is financial or military help. Our Emperor Theodor Eberbach is appealing to Kadules government to accept our help so that Kadule will be safe and peacefully again because if we now let these terrorists do what they want they will never stop killing honest people.

The CPA is commited to democracy, as Arioslavian reforms of 1994/1995 had proved. The Party leadership is surprised by these allegations, but hopes to seek agreement with PSEK and other parties.
We cannot talk about democracy with openly anti-democratic parties. It is not an infantile ideological conflict. We just do not wish to allow Kadule to become a sharia-ruled country - that is the only thing that can satisfy the islamists and therefore we see no point in negotiating with them. We would like to remind the PSEK leader that islamists stand against everything PSEK believes in. We are surprised that PSEK prefers defending its own enemies instead of staying realistic and joining our efforts. However, if PSEK still mantains its stance, we are ready to allow the islamists to talks, although in our opinion it can make negotiations harder and longer.

We agree that the President is legitimate Kadulan head of state. We do not want his resignation. Anyway, we would like to ensure that the new law will not be used to wipe out the legal opposition.

I would like to take this time to extend the hand of friendship. The current situation has garnered the attention of the world, and the plight of all sides has been acknowledged. Together we can find a solution to the current situation that will benefit all concerned. It is our goal to meet and address all parties, factions, governments, and interests. Greetings. We understand you are currently having issues concerning a recent law that was passed. We understand your situation, as we have recently crushed an insurrection within our borders. You must know that I and my nation fully support you and your new law, and we recommend that you execute the protest leaders. We are also asking your permission to move roughly 200,000-250,000 Imperial Army soldiers to help contain these protests, with non lethal force.

We await your reply.

KINGDOM OF THE UNITED TURTLES, MUSHROOMS, AND MEN
EXECUTIVE CABINET
MINISTRY OF THE POLICE
DESK-JOCKEY

Good afternoon.

TurtleShroom is under siege by its own insurrection at a scale exceeding yours. The legitimate govenrment has been overthrown in a military coup d'etat by One Star General Bubba Bubbavich Long II, who has promised to restore order and use force to scatter the protestors.

My department- indeed, all the police forces in TurtleShroom -are on board with this wholeheartedly and we likewise endorse Option Seven in the attached poll you requested us to include on any dispatch. (The General endorses Option Ten.)
While we cannot condone dispersing a protest by force unless the protest is violent or is tresspassing on private property, it seems that you are past that point, but not quite at our level of revolt.

In the police forces' opinion, you do not yet need to deploy the military as we are about to. Use your police forces and volunteers to forcibly disperse these protests, but do not resort to lethal means unless they themselves are armed. Use tear gas, fire hoses and water cannons, pepper spray, and tasers ubiquitously until they go home. If this causes them to become excessively violent, then you can resort to lethal force.

We are currently unable to send any weaponry, aid, or even tasers at the moment because of the chaos of our nation.

I personally will pray for your country, and, if you are a believer in any religion, that you pray to your gods or to God for mine.

Godspeed.

We call the protest leaders in Kadule to freeze protests at least until the talks end. Negotiations in Telgrad are the only chance to finish this conflict peacefuly. However, we call the government to not execute any oppositionists.

Senador Betshwa Wofumeji, Senador Anibal Jegojuzi, Membro do Parlamento Tina Shashihojaka, Membro do Parliament Kalil Nejem and Jimi Gondesi, Xavier Mondogashe and Maria Vunokasi have stated that they will not call off the protest until the government first calls off the police and army, and drop all charges of treachery against the protest leaders.
Kadule is a commentary on the damaged state of post-colonial African nations and the conflict between national groups, races, the vast disparity between rich and poor, corruption and election rigging and religious fundamentalism. It does not reflect my views.

As an small help our Emperor would like to establish an medical center in the Capital of Mabetshwa to treat wounded civilians if possible. If the police of Kadule is not sure if it can keep the medical center safe, we would like to ask for permission to use our own police to secure the center. We wait for your answer.
