Should We Elect A Speaker?

Postby Zazumo » Sat Mar 26, 2016 4:43 pm

I realize voting into The League by a majority vote is becoming a lot of work therefore our delegation proposes electing a "Speaker of the League" and "Deputy Speaker" every 30 days who will serve by accepting nations into The League. The Deputy Speaker can assume this responsibility in the absence of the Speaker. Should the Speaker be voted out of power or cease activity it will be The Deputy Speaker who will take over as speaker. What do you think? If we did this we would start by nominating candidates. You CAN nominate yourself but please take these jobs seriously. Voting members in is a serious power that will effect us all.

This topic has been discussed in the past and nobody really took to the idea, but I think through our free trade agreement perhaps your nation, ours, rodeaisa, and neovlex could work out a deal.

I would also like to request open borders allowing citizens of member nations to travel within the league without visas.

That sounds quite reasonable. I support it.

Members should still be allowed to require this paperwork under circumstances so therefore we propose the following:

Proposal 8G78-002
Our delegation and the delegation from Orslan propose a policy to permit visa free travel to citizens of The League of Nations allowing them to travel freely without a visa when they meet certain requirements under the domestic laws of the member nation. If a person has a serious criminal record or by request of a foreign government this recognizes a member nation's right to refuse entry into domestic territory to any person(s) without a visa or proper paperwork.

Well with overwhelming support for a Speaker position I say we open nominations. This period should last four days. Nominations for both Speaker and Deputy Speaker should be included. You can nominate yourself but please only do so if you will perform the duty's required, which since this is a new position the duty's must still be decided by us. The Deputy Speaker is a backup if the Speaker is away for long periods of time or fails to perform their duty's. You can be impeached by a majority vote if you abuse power or continuously neglected your duty. The Speaker and Deputy Speaker will serve a 30 day term before they must be re-elected.

So with these rules as simple as they could possibly be, our delegation nominates Rodasia as Speaker and ourselves as Deputy Speaker.

Nominations close Friday April 1st

Nominations for Speaker:
Rodeasia
Zazumo
Nominations for Deputy Speaker:
Aterria
Orslan

The Commonwealth of Federated Celtic States wishes to open negotiations with the League of Nations over its potential membership. It is both the will of the government and of the Teach na nIonadaithe, and the Seanad and public, to hold these negotiations to ensure we have membership terms that suit us. We wish for these negotiations to begin swiftly and to be constructive. The final proposal will be put to a referendum in the Commonwealth's three states (Scotland, Wales & Ireland) within three weeks of an agreement.

Every member agrees to the simple charter and the LPF agreement both linked to on the first page. If those terms suit you just fill out an application and soon our newly elected speaker will get everything sorted out, there's currently like 3 applications pending at the moment I believe.

Some of the laws and parts of the charter are not deemed suitable that is why we seek negotiations to secure appropriate terms of membership.

1. "Members agree to enlist 1,200 soliders into The League Peace Forces." and "Every member nation agrees to establish a LPF base in their nation large enough to house at least 1,000 military personnel." --- Opt-Out Desired (From LPF).

2. "By law declaring war against one member of The League of Nations shall result in a declaration of war against the entire League of Nations" --- Opt-Out Desired (From mutual defence).

3. Opt-Out Desired from Refugee Displacement System.

4. A guarantee that Federated Celtic States will not be forced to join a single currency unless a referendum takes place that shows majority support for joining.

5. Opt-Out Desired for visa-free travel.

6. A guarantee that Celtic law will take supremacy over League of Nations law and that no law will be forced upon the Commonwealth unless it is passed through the parliament and signed by the President, or passed by referendum if constitutional change is required.

I don't mean to rush anybody, and I am sorry if I do, but did the league get my application yet?

Here is a copy of it:

Nation Name: Federal Republic of Greater Byzanthia
Head of Government: Minister-President Christoph Schroeter
Head of State: Prime Minister Charles Burgardt
Name of Representative to the League of Nations: Consul Felix Werner
Location of your League Peace Force (LPF) base: Federal District of Prometheus (Capital of Greater Byzanthia)

*Please note that Byzanthia is a neutral nation. The Federal Supreme Court has determined that some clauses of your charter intervene with the governing power over the republic. Byzanthia is also a member of the United Coalition of Nation States, which may affect how we participate in the league.

Firstly a few of those never officially passed into effect such as the Refugee Displacement, Shared Currency and Visa Free Travel. Second it seems as if you have an issue with the entire charter and LPF agreement in that case why even join? All nations agree to the terms, sorry but our delegation will not support changing the laws to suit one nation. That would force us into a position to do it for every other nation and what laws will we be asked to ignore then?

We're asking for opt-outs so we can choose which things to partake in, and those things would be the ones that suit us the best. We ought not, as a sovereign nation, be forced to partake in things we do not want to. We want to have free trade with the League and we want to have enhanced economic, diplomatic and security ties with the member nations, however we want to be able to do that without being forced into other things. Every nation should be given an opt-out and accepting our membership will be the start of that, as said previously sovereign nations ought not to be forced into things it does not want to partake in.

Your are asking for an opt-out from the entire League of Nations requirements just to have free trade which you can already get by joining the IPFTA here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=zaz ... /id=561896 and without having to join The League of Nations, a military partnership. You mention wanting security ties, how do you propose to do this without joining the LPF? Were not a security force for nations.

Nine stars symbolize the nine current members of The League. With each new member we will add a star.
