What species should my nation be?

I've been thinking about what species my nation should be home to, I have tested with races and tried to make one but It didn't work out.

So I was wondering if you lovely people could help me.

Well, let's think

Human species will get you into a lot more RPs if you are a modern tech focused nation, but if you are future tech, it is likely you could be any race you wanted to be. This would result in a lots of racism, and potential genocides, so only do so if you can actually fight back.

Humans only give you a finite of choices and since humans compared to other Alien races are just "Meh" you can make your own species with their own plusses and negatives. The sky's the limit really. Just depends on what you want for a nation.

We are personally of the belief that a nation of hovering post-boxes with toilet plungers and electric egg-whisks for weapons is no nation at all. All nations should clearly bow before the Machine Race, the objectively-perfect amalgamation of man and technology.

Back to the topic at hand: start from the very beginning. What is that species' origin planet like? What about sociocultural and/or historical context (e.g. has your nation ever had a world war)? Those are the two I start with when I want to create a new sentient species, if that helps.

Well what kind of species do you want? Do you have any vague idea about its basic biology? How about your nation's culture, religion, society etc?

I am a FT nation though.

1) Strictly in terms of the RPs you want to get into, humans are the best choice. I've never seen a "Non-humans Only" RP, but I have seen Humans Only RPs.
Of course, by that logic you should only make MT Nations, since most RP on II and GE&T is MT Only. In case you couldn't tell, I'm an FT nation, so I don't really believe in that nonsense.

2) Be aware that xenophobia is definitely a thing in RPs that allow non-humans. Expect to find nations that are willing to commit genocide because you have a different species.

3) By your comment on human genes, do you wish to make an Anthro nation? Those are quite common. On the upside, you'll have plenty of art of your species. On the downside, Anthros aren't really unique.

4) Ponies are best non-humans.

5) Machines are overrated. We have an entire alliance dedicated to Machine-led nations. And then you have to deal with the whole Skynet comparison thing, and every nation who ever goes to war with you will go nuts about EMP... it's a mess.

6) You could always do what I did and steal a little-known alien race from someone on the internet. The Birrin were a great find, and most of the really hard work was already done for me.
