NB. While 'Confederated Duchies' is a fairly common description of a Dyellian State, it should be noted that these States are NOT Confederations. They would be more properly described as 'United Dutchies', however, this description is not used due to the historic antipathy towards the United Duchies of Alcona and Hubris. A Dyellian State which declares itself to be 'Confederated Duchies' is a unicameral/bicameral democracy that has an established nobility.

History


Prehistory

The area now taken up by the multiple nations of the Teyrnasoedd was unusual in that it saw the evolution of several closely related homonid species. The exact evolution of each and their interrelatedness is sufficient information for a book all of its own, however in appreciating the history of the Teyrnasoedd it is important to note their distribution. The Oompa, pumilius oompa, a race of small forest swelling primates originated in the jungles of what is modern day Kaarndi and Fasta Benj. The Hardmandle, pumilius dvermer, a nocturnal burrower, came from the plains further east, although by the time of recorded history had been completely wiped out on the mainland, only surviving on Witch's Isle. The Djel, homo gracile obscurus, inhabited the Djel river valley and coastal regions surrounding the Great Desert, while their close relatives the Ljósálfar, homo gracile gracile, were found in the jungles further East in what is modern Diocletian.


Early History

Civilisation in the South of Klatch first appeared on the Djel river, with the first settlements springing up around the modern Dyellian capital city of Cyro in c. 3000 BC. During this period the Djel civilisation was rapidly unified, with the Djel King ruling the thin stretch of land around the river as far North as the fertile plains near the modern city of York. At some point the Djel and Ljósálfar began to clash for territory, probably due to the fact that the rapidly expanding Djel population was mostly constrained to a slender patch of fertile land surrounded by desert. At this point the Ljósálfar were largely nomadic hunter gatherers and were initially driven back from considerable tracts of land.
It is important to note the religions of the two groups at this point. The Ljósálfar religion, could generally be classified as monotheistic sun worship. The Djel religion, however, was somewhat darker, with the sacrifice of prisoners, along with ritual mutilation and cannibalism featuring heavily. At some stage this religion began to spread to elements of the Ljósálfar population. Adherents to this religion would in time become known as 'Dökkálfar'.


Human Colonisation


The first wave of human colonists arrived in Diocletian in c. 500 BC. Unlike the Djels, the new colonists were able to interact non-violently with the local Ljósálfar, and in a series of campaigns, drove Djel elements back into the Great Desert. The border established between the Diocletian Empire and the Djel Kingdom in c. 300 BC roughly corresponds to the modern border between the Nations of Diocletian and the Djel River Valley.

The second wave of colonists arrived in the jungles of Fasta Benj in c. 800 AD. Unlike the Diocletian settlers, the Benjians were a neolithic tribal society, nevertheless they expanded rapidly at cost to the local Oompa, most of whom were driven West into the Karndi jungle.

In 1099 AD the third wave of human settlers arrived. Unlike previous waves, this wave was heavily armed and driven by conquest. They landed near Cyro, rapidly and violently overthrowing the Djel civilisation and exterminating all Djels who refused to convert to Christianity or attempted to resist. Within six months Djel civilisation was destroyed, although bickering among the human factions led to the Kingdom being divided into the Djel Kingdom near the coast, and the Beybir Kingdom in the North. An important fact to note was that the invading force was relatively small, a few thousand at best, and entirely male. Within 200 years the invaders and local Djels had interbred to the point where there was no real difference between them.

The final two waves of human settlement occurred in 1185 and 1187. The first of these was a rather unremarkable settlement of modern day Guyaland, while the second was a violent and nearly successful invasion of the Beybir Kingdom by the Islamic D'Reg tribes. Ultimately, with the aid of the Djel Kingdom and the powerful borderland Duke, Mosal the Magnificent, the invasion was defeated, although the D'Reg tribes were able to roam the Great Desert more or less unopposed, becoming the de facto rulers of that area. Following the victory Mosal was exiled, being of dubious loyalty to either King, and able to command dangerous levels of loyalty in both Kingdoms. Mosal and a large band of several thousand followers and their families headed North, settling in the Northern wildernesses of the Klatchian continent. This land would, in later time, become the Nation of Veiland.


The Pre-Modern Era

The remainder of the Middle Ages in Dyelli Beybi were a period of numerous border skirmishes but little actual transfer of land. Bath was heavily fortified by the Beybir kingdom, and was successful in thwarting several invading Djel armies. Importantly, the Beybir Kingdom captured the town of St Guineford's in 1237, allowing them access to the lucrative Squall trade routes. Access to the town in times of conflict with the Djel Kingdom, however, could only be made via the desert road, controlled by the D'Reg Sultanate.

In 1692 the Djel Kingdom retook St Guineford's courtesy of a successful alliance between King Steven and Sultan Mohammed XIV, cutting the Beybir Kingdom off from South coast trade routes, although they were still able to trade with the Moskauan settlements in the far North via the river. Increasing Orang piracy on Lake Pond in the eighteenth century severely weakened this trade, meaning that by the end of the century the Beybir Kingdom was more or less destitute. In 1795 marriage between the Djel Queen Catherine and Beybir King Alexander reunified the Kingdoms with the Queen taking the title of Tzarina of Dyelli Beybi to emphasise her imperial ambitions. In 1799 General Nairn of the 'Empire of Dyelli Beybi' captured Quisa, ending the D'Reg Sultanate. Over the following years the Tzarina launched several expeditions against the Diocletian interior, although all met with failure.

The Nineteenth Century was somewhat more successful, with the Benjian tribes gradually subjugated, and the Hardmandle Lords of Witch's Isle swearing Allegiance to the Dyellian Tzars. The Tzars would also claim Guyaland and Diocletians as vassals, however no military victory was ever achieved over either of the Nations. This state of nominal vassaldom was accepted by the Guyan and Diocletian Emperors due to the comparatively advanced state of Dyellian industry and technology at the time.


The Twentieth Century to Today

Unlike many pre-modern states, the states of Klatch, despite wide scale economic reforms, remained feudal in outlook. This situation was dramatically changed as revolutions sparked in Guyaland in 1950 and Dyelli Beybi/Fasta Benj in 1959. Both were ultimately successful, although the only state which managed to create a lasting democracy was Fasta Benj, with Dyelli Beybi and Guyaland both rapidly becoming military dictatorships. All three nations suffered considerable infrastructure damage, taking several decades to recover.

In 1974 General Sanders, the de facto Dyelli Beybian head of State declared war on Fasta Benj. Despite disorganisation on both sides, the Dyellians advanced rapidly against the poorly prepared Benjians. It was at this point that the Nation of Racinia attempted to intervene, demanding an immediate ceasefire. Fearing Racinian imperialism, the Benjians and Dyellians negotiated their own ceasefire, signing a treaty with Guyaland, Diocletian and the GODAD Alliance to resist any Racinian threat.

The result of this Dyellian power play was nuclear war, the brunt of which was borne by Fasta Benj, Guyaland and Racinia. Fasta Benj's ecology would never truly recover from the war; The country is now a vast grassland where jungle once stood. Background radiation is also still high in many areas of the country.

The Racinia crisis was also fatal for the Dyelli Beybian Republic in the long term. In 1980, Tzar Richard IV, son of the late Richard III successfully mounted a coup to remove Sanders, who fled North into Vrak. Richard IV was among the most powerful and hated figures of Dyellian history, reinstituting feudalism and dolling out random punishments to both real and perceived enemies.

Richard's Imperialist ambitions outstripped those of any previous Tzar, subjugating the Benjians and installing his son Henry as Prince, and claiming dominion over an unprecedented number of States (many of which simply ignored him). He was, however, able to successfully negotiate the inclusion of the Moskauan States (those areas previously colonised by Duke Mosal) into the Dyellian Reich as well as partitioning Guyaland with Vrak when the country descended into anarchy following the death of the dictator. Richard's ambition also extended to religion, placing a local Cardinal on the 'papal throne', although in truth Pope Indolence and his short lived successor Pope Idolatry, ruling from Saint Guineford's, had no influence outside of Dyelli Beybi.

In Diocletian, the last Emperor, Diocletian XXV died heirless, allowing a fundamentalist theocracy known as Christofi to take over. Under the short lived Christofian Government, a concerted campaign of extermination was launched against the Ljósálfar backed by Richard and the Dyellian State. This resulted in the conversion of most Ljósálfar to the Dökkálfar religion and can be blamed for much of the bloodshed in Diocletian today. While provoking International outrage, the combined military strength of the many Klatchian Nations was able to prevent a direct attack on the Christofian regime. Following the collapse of Christofi, the Jiggady pirate clan took control of the Nation.

In 2000 Dyellian troops led by Lunchtime O'Booze were dispatched to Al Anbar to prop up the local Government against a coalition of forces from the Drakonian Imperium, Tersanctus and several other states. Richard escalated the war to nuclear, launching a devastating attack on the Imperium. Fearing reprisals the Tzar fled to the Benjian countryside. It was during a hunting expedition in the Benjian interior that he was killed by the pilot of an A10, presumably under orders from his son Henry.

Thus started the Second Dyelli Beybian civil war. Lunchtime O'Booze quickly returned from Al Anbar, joining a rapidly growing Republican movement in the Djel Valley. This movement was opposed by Henry in Fasta Benj as well as by his brother George who made his capital at York. Adding to the chaos, Pope Indolence took the opportunity to attempt to establish a theocracy in the Dyellian state. While George moved against Indolence at Saint Guineford's, Henry's troops launched an assault on the Djel Valley, crossing at the Sheffield pass and winning a phyric victory over General Pickelheimer's forces. The advance ground to a halt at the city of Bath where the Benjians were surrounded and overwhelmed by O'Booze. Meanwhile Henry led an ambitious amphibious assault on Cyro but was met by Admiral von Scheer's forces outside the city and decisively defeated. Prince Henry was listed among the casualties. General Plank from Jiggady had meanwhile also advanced on Cyro, anticipating support from Henry's forces. In their absence he was quickly surrounded, surrendering to the Dyellians within days. In the wake of these victories George fled the country. He would attempt to return some years later only to be killed by a sniper in the battle of Lobsters.

As the Second Dyellian Republic began to rebuild from the ashes, the Government of Fasta Benj found itself leaderless, the country quickly falling into lawless chaos. Within a few weeks, Republican troops had reorganised sufficiently to launch another successful invasion of Fasta Benj, capturing the buffer region of 'East Benjia', with former Fasta Benj being renamed 'South-West Benjia'.

It was during the reign of the Second Republic that the 'Outremere Experiment' was undertaken, an experiment whereby a distant world was colonised via experimental wormhole technology. The exact details of the experiment are still officially a state secret, although the belief is that settlers may have been accidentally transported back in time, with the link being cut off and then re-established some generations later (with only a very short amount of time passing in the Republic).

While peace lasted for several years, the truth was that the Second Civil War never truly ended. Royalist guerillas launched several insurrections and carried out a number of high profile assassinations. In response the Cheka, the new secret police, were given increasingly sweeping powers. When Chancellor Collins attempted to reign the Cheka in, he was met with a Cheka sponsored coup, installing General Soult as a brief lived head of state. In response to this, the state of 'Timaru and Moskau', the settlements formerly settled by Mosal and his followers , declared independence, fighting wars against the Var and other aliens while a Royalist rebellion sparked in New Dyelli (the Dyellian partition of Guyaland), rapidly spreading to East Benjia. Soult, despite his military background was becoming increasingly unpopular with his colleagues in the military due to his vanity and inability to take decisive action against the rebel factions. Resistance to the rebellion was token at best, and within a few weeks Tzarina Alexia I, bastard daughter of the late Richard IV was installed as well as being voted Prime Minister.

To this date the rule of Alexia I has been a great success, with the reunification of Fasta Benj, Diocletian and Guyaland as self governing States of the 'Blessed Kingdom of Dyelli Beybi', a process dubbed the Kulturkampf. Furthermore, Timaru and Moskau was peacefully reintegrated into the Kingdom. Alexia followed her father's model of religion, splitting from the Catholic church and establishing the reformed 'Episcopal Church of Cyro', combining liberal Catholicism with elements of protestantism into an unusual hybrid faith. This move was popular among both clergy and the population as a whole, although a sizeable Catholic minority remained.

The only major stain on her reign to date has been the so called 'Inquisition Incident', in which the Inquisitor Guard backed by Parliamentarian forces attempted to forcibly control the monarch. Alexia however escaped to York, fighting skirmishes against Parliamentarian militia at Croprody and Bath. The refusal of the military to become involved prevented a genuine civil war from breaking out. The situation in Bath was eventually brought under control by O'Booze, although some speculation exists that Vaadian troops declared for the Tzarina might have been able to restore order had O'Booze not moved in first. Unfortunately during the Battle of Bath, the Tzarina went missing for several months, eventually turning up in Statenland. No public record exists as to exactly what happened to her.

The resulting power vacuum saw the rise of regional power bases, particularly the Guyan regime. In Guyaland the military declared its allegiance to the Guyaland House of Representatives, and with the blessing of the local regimes in Veiland (former 'Timaru and Moskau') and Diocletian, invaded the Northern Djel Valley. Confused and uncertain who to take orders from, no organised resistance was made to the march of General Ming's 'Ever Victorious Army', and the Red Army in Cyro withdrew without a fight, allowing Ming to occupy the Capital and force constitutional changes granting even greater power to the regional regimes.

The chaos of this time was also marked by a Government collapse in Vrak. Siezing the opportunity for reunification, Guyan troops marched North, occupying all of former Guyaland. These actions were justified by Kulturkampf - in effect, reunification was essential in order to preserve Guyan culture.

In Outremere, this period saw revolts in several mining colonies. The so called 'Statenland War of Independence' was a short lived affair, marked by the humiliating defeat of the garrison in the colony of Hasbranda by a rebel force approximatel 1/10th of its size, as well as the only major space engagement in Dyellian history.

The 'Battle of Binak' saw the Outremerian First Fleet of just over 100 vessels of destroyer size and up defeat a rebel fleet of similar size. Two rebel cruisers were lost in the engagement and a further three surrendered. Eight Outremerian fighters and Seventeen Statenland 'Corvettes' (in reality a large fighter) were also lost. Numerous ships on both sides suffered major structural damage. While an Outremerian victory, Admiral Parr managed to extract the majority of the Rebel Fleet, which, while suffering heavily from the loss of so many large vessels, was far from destroyed.

The war was eventually decided in the 'Battle of Hazard'. Buoyed by the recent victory at Binak, Outremerian high command organised the first planetary assault in Dyellian history - against the planet of Myotan. In preparation for a possible invasion, the Myotan militia had removed all fuel to fortified positions, one being the town of Hazard. Despite vastly outnumbering the local garrison, Outremerian troops were limited by the number of shuttles available to the fleet. Poor reconnaisance work meant that the 1st Divison of the Gallic Army was unaware of the heavy AA batteries in position near Hazard when the landing was attempted. While casualties were small - Outremere took 3,575 total casualties, and lost 46 tanks, 37 IFVs, 15 Helicopers and 38 guns (the rebels suffered 806 casualties and lost 10 guns), more than half the fleet's shuttles were either destroyed or too badly damaged to ferry any more triips. The loss and damage of so many shuttles made any similar landing within the next year all but impossible. With Outremerian companies crying out for the supplies of raw materials from rebel controlled systems, the new 'Confederate Principality of Statenland' was recognised and welcomed into the Kingdom.

The Tzarina returned to a much more divided Dyelli Beybi to that she had left a few months before. A new system was reached granting effective autonomy to each 'Teyrnas' (realm),although all still acknowledged the Tzarina as head of State. As such the 'Teyrnasoedd' were born. In the subsequent months, wearied by constant foreign intervention in Dyellian affairs, legislation was passed to enact a policy of 'Gwlad Cloi' - a deliberate system designed to exclude foreigners from polluting Dyellian culture or interfering in the politics of the Teyrnasoedd. This policy has been opposed by the Governments of Diocletian and Statenland, but has generally been seen as a positive move that has ushered in a golden age of Dyellian culture.



Politics Today

The Teyrnasoedd are each an independent State. Most are democracies. Most also participate in the overarching non-constitutional democracy working under a system of parliamentary supremacy. Teyrnasoedd States tend to govern themselves independently and have independent, albeit aligned, foreign policies. The 'Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd' exists as a coordinatory body and has the authority to impose laws on the individual States.

It is important to note while discussing politics that Witch's Isle remains an absolute monarchy and unlike the other Nations does not have an independent foreign policy -rather it simply follows the Djel Valley. Outremere, meanwhile, is somewhat more decentralised than other Nations and is divided into five 'Prefectures' with the ability to pass independent local legislation. Polonia-Lietuvos is a quasi-absolute monarchy, and, uniquely, does not have representatives in the 'Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd' and is not technically bound by their decisions (although it passes all legislation of the Parliament as a matter of policy).


The Political Parties


Al'Hizb Al Watani Al Democrati/National Democratic Party (NDP)
Opperating in the Djel Valley, Gens Automata, Outremere and Slovania, the NDP is a centrist party with views mainly concerned with the preservation of religious freedom. Although it frequently acts as a mouthpiece for the D'Reg populace the NDP has been careful to steer clear of the race politics of the NSWP, NHA or Roma Prima. Has been accused of being in the pocket of the oil industry. Frequently allied with Zentrum.

Benjian National Party (BNP)
Neo-liberal Benjian Nationalist party with a libertarian streak. The BNP operates solely in Fasta Benj. Allied with the DNP.

Diocletian National Party (DNP)
Diocletian nationalist party with a slightly right of centre economic policy. Operates solely in Diocletian. Allied with the BNP.

Fahne rot (FR)
Present in all Nations, Fahne rot can be described communist party, occasionally referred to as 'Red Faction'. Unlike many other Communist parties in other countries, Fahne rot has not condemned the religious establishment and many senior members are devout Djelicans. Fahne rot is generally Republican in outlook although it has grudgingly accepted Alexia ap Adam as monarch, believing her preferable to the Soultish dictatorship.

Gweth Edhel (GE)
In areas of where Prenael are more prevalent and a strategic alliance with Orcs is less feasible (see entry for Urukania), Gwethe Edhel promotes Elven rights.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)

A right of centre market liberal party. The LDP is socially progressive and operates in most States.

National Socialist Workers Party (NSWP)
A centrist although extremely authoritarian party. Extremely racist policies that are seen to favour Djels and persecute all other non-human groups. Operates in the Djel Valley and Outremere.

Non-human Alliance (NHA)
Operates in all states to represent the minority non-human groups (not including Djels). Is heavily socialist in most policies. Has been accused (mainly by Djels) of encouraging and promoting race politics.

People's Revolutionary Party (PRP)
A moderately left of centre party which operates in all States. The PRP initially supported a Corporatist Government model leaning towards Democratic Socialism, however, over the years it has evolved into a Distributist Party that stresses the primacy of the Episcopalian Church of Cyro and, in states where it has a Government presence, heavily promotes Cooperative Industry as opposed to State Control. Its main focus is social equity. Unsurprisingly, considering the fact that it is headed by Alexia ap Adam herself, it is vocally pro-Monarchy.

Plaid Gaul (PG)
Gallic National party, operates only in Outremere, generally socialist in outlook. Favours complete independence of the Prefecture of Gaul from the Teyrnasoedd.

Roma Prima (RP)
Roma Prima is a hard right Nationalist party operating exclusively in Outremere. It is particularly vocal on the idea of moving the Capital of the Teyrnasoedd to Roma. Membership is entirely Djel, regarded by many as a racist party. Roma Prima is extremely loyal to the Monarchy.

Socialist Party of Dyelli Beybi (SPD)
A slightly left of centre party with a focus on social equity, the SPD is one of the most influential parties in the Teyrnasoedd and operates in all states. The SPD is Monarchy-neutral, and tends to work in alliance with the PRP, although the SPD favours State control over worker owned cooperatives.

Uruk Nationalist Party (UNP)
A right wing party dedicated to Uruk or Orcish causes. The UNP only opperates in Urukania and is unique in that it is the only party that does not decry the practice of slavery.

Zentrum
Zentrum is active in most States. It is a socially conservative centrist party, although it has attached trade unions. Zentrum is a Catholic/Wormsian party dedicated to the defence of these two minority faiths and their practices. Frequently allied with the NDP on issues of religious toleration.

Currency

Anyone unfortunate enough to have had to travel in Dyelli Beybi alone will have undoubtedly become seriously confused by the currency. Dyellian currency is in fact an amalgamation of three currencies, the Klatchian Kronor, the Gallic Crown and the Asian Florin, the latter two being used in specific Prefectures of Outremere until very recently. It is important to note that the purchasing power of the Kronor is very high. An individual might expect to be able to buy a cooked lunch at a cafe for 1 Kronor, while a dinner for two in one of the Kingdom's top restaurants would be unlikely to exceed 10 Kronors. By comparison, minimum wage is 1 Kr and 6 Shillings/hour. It is very rare for any Dyellian to earn a five figure figure salary, top civil servants and business executives might earn 8,000 Kronors in a year.

While the sheer number of Dyellian coin types is daunting many have rather specific purposes or are rarely traded outside of certain areas. For instance Crowns and Florins are rarely traded outside of Outremere being prefered to Kronors in the Prefectures of Gaul and Asia respectively. Similarly the so called 'Noble' coins are most commonly used for gambling.


Currency Denominations

There are currently 5 accepted denominations of currency in the Kingdom, the smallest is the penny, and as such this will be used as a baseline to measure the comparative worth of the others. A penny (d) is valued at approximately US$0.05.

The Shilling (s) is worth 12d or approximately US$0.60.
The Crown (c) is worth 60d or approximately US$3.00.
The Florin (f) is worth 72d or approximately US$3.60.
The Kronor (Kr) is worth 240d or approximately US$12.00.

The 'Talent' is a peculiar and unique piece of currency. Effectively it is an enormous silver bar (weighing around 30kg) valued at Kr 1,750 or 420,000d (US$21,000.00). A very small number are in existence, mostly held in safety deposit boxes. If a payment is made using a talent it is usual for the vendor to send the talent to a bank (to verify authenticity) before it is exchanged for goods.

Social Class and Caste

One of the trappings of the feudal regime that has remained in Dyelli Beybi, particularly in Outremere, is the concept of caste. While caste is no longer commonly discussed and it is regarded as exceedingly bad taste to make reference to another's caste, beneath the surface of Dyellian society people generally still know which caste they belong to. While it does not specifically exclude someone from a particular job, it is usually the case that people will often end up in the kind of jobs that are associated with their caste. Caste is patrilinear, which is to say all offspring inherit the father's caste. Caste has traditionally been somewhat more fluid in Dyelli Beybi than is generally the case in other nations.

Technically in Dyelli Beybi there are 3 castes;

Oratores: Regarded as the most prestigious of castes, the oratores were priests and their offspring. During times when it was regarded as essential for a priest to remain celibate, those born into the Orator caste, were shunned as they were necessarily bastards. This caste also became associated with medical workers and clerks (roles traditionally filled by clerics in Dyellian society). Since the lifting of the requirement of celibacy for priests in the Episcopal Church of Cyro the prejudices against born oratores has evaporated and been replaced by a deep respect.

Bellatores: Warrior caste which also encompassed the majority of the nobility. Traditionally this caste was sworn to protect the oratores and laboratores from outsiders although their numbers were low enough that laboratores were called upon in times of crisis.

Laboratores: Literally 'those who work', this caste encompassed everyone not an Orator or a Bellator. No nobility existed within the Laborator caste, although as commerce grew from the 15th century onwards many laboratores began to become as wealthy as Bellator/Orator nobility. While more far sighted Tzars and Tzarinas attempted to curb the excesses of the feudal caste system, it was the inability of others to understand the changing nature of the world that ultimately alienated this caste resulting in the Republican movement. In recent times a number of laboratores have been given ranks of nobility by the Tzarina.



The Nobility
On top of this there exists a system of Nobility encompassing clear hierarchies. A brief summary of the hierarchy of nobility can be found below.

Children of any noble rank who do not inherit the title are given the title of Sir/Dame. This is not inherited further although can be bestowed on an individual by anyone of Earl/Countess rank or higher.

Occasionally an individual may refer to themselves as a 'Sergeant'. This indicates that at the fall of Richard IV's Monarchy and the establishment of the 2nd Republic that the individual/individual's ancestors were not of noble rank but was also not serfs.

Politics: The United Kingdom is often described as a pseudo-theocracy due to the fact that it has a 'House of Clergy' with a right of veto over legislation passed by the House of Commons. General:

The United Kingdom of the Djel Valley is the heart of Dyelli Beybi. It's capital city of Cyro also houses the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd while the Eastern city of Saint Guineford's is the Spiritual Capital of the Episcopal Church of Cyro. The Djel Valley stretches from the Northern border with Vrak and Guyaland south to the Ocean. To its East it borders Diocletian and Fasta Benj to the West.

Geographically it is mostly desert, although in the North the 'plains of York' are home to a thriving agricultural sector. The Djel river flows from Vrak to the Sea in the west of the country, and a slim stretch of fertile land runs along its length. The border with Fasta Benj is somewhat less barren than the interior, and is also home to a low mountain range with considerable deposits of iron. The eastern areas of desert lies atop massive oil deposits and this helps to drive the Eastern economy.

The Djel Valley is extremely wealthy and home to well developed manufacturing and trade sectors centred around the southern cities of Bath, Welles, Alexigrad and Cyro.

Military:
The United Kingdom is, militarily, the second strongest Teyrnas. It's standing army makes up 0.70% of the population, making it one of the largest by head of population. Like all other Dyellian States, the United Kingdom is able to levy 'Trained Bands' in times of dire need (reservists who train for two weeks a year).

Navy: The United Kingdom has the strongest Navy in the Teyrnasoedd with 12 Fleets commanded by Grand Admiral Adelle Collins (Countess of Eastmarch). It is important to note that most of these vessels are airships and are more lightly armed and crewed than their naval counterparts in other nations. Energy shields are used to compensate for the lack of armour.

All up the United Kingdom can field 600 Air Carriers, 600 Air Battleships, 600 Air Battlecruisers, 2,280 Air Cruisers, 3,360 Air Destroyers, 1,200 Air Transports, 480 Armoured Cruisers, 480 Monitors, 240 Scout Cruisers, 360 Destroyer Leaders, 120 Destroyers, 240 Escorts, 120 Destroyer Escorts, 1,800 patrol boats, 600 torpedo boats, 2,400 submarines and launch capacity for 12,360 VTOL fighter-bombers. This brings the total to 8,640 airships, 4,440 surface vessels, 2,400 submarines and 12,360 aircraft. The Navy currently employs 4,500,000 personnel.

A note on Dyellian nomenclature: Dyellian blue seas destroyers are what most other nations would deem a frigate while her cruisers are more the size and power of the typical destroyer.

Army: The United Kingdom also fields a powerful army currently commanded by Senior Field Marshall Lunchtime O'Booze (Earl of Posnania). The Army is divided into 3 Corps, the Lower Djel Valley Corps (100 Divisions), the Upper Djel Valley Corps (50 Divisions) and the Royal Guard (3 Divisions). The Royal Guard technically is under the direct command of the Monarch, but is housed in the Djel Valley and draws from her citizens.

All up the Army can field 785,808 Combat Infantry, 46,818 Tanks, 36,720 IFVs, 9,180 AA vehicles, 4,590 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 45,900 Guns, 12,240 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles .The Army currently employs 4,666,500 personnel.


Airforce: The United Kingdom commands two Air Forces of 10 Sectors each (the Northern Air Force and the Southern Air Force), currently commanded by Grand Air Marshall Christopher France. Only Outremere can equal the number of aircraft fielded by the United Kingdom.

All up the Airforce can field 15,600 supersonic fighters, 14,400 subsonic fighters, 3,600 CAS aircraft, 1,200 torpedo bombers, 3,200 heavy bombers, 4,800 medium bombers, 1,600 naval bombers, 2,800 transports, 3,200 refuelling aircraft and 800 control aircraft. In addition to this the airforce are responsible for 2,000 SAM sites and an unspecified number of ICBM launch facilities (3,200 missiles). The Airforce currently employs 5,300,000 personnel.

Politics: As the first Bathian regime to abolish Gwlad Cloi, Diocletian is seen as rogue by the Chevalier regimes. The Djel Valley and Outremere attempted to pass sanctions against the Planck Government to force it to reinstate Gwlad Cloi, but these efforts were successfully thwarted in the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd by other Bathian states.

Currently the North of Diocletian is controlled by a Chevalier group led by disaffected MPs known as the U.D.F. (United Dyellian Front). Most military units remain under Government control, although it has been reported by the news media that were a fresh election to be held, the DNP Government would be swept aside in a wave of popular support for Chevalier politics.

General:

The Free State of Diocletian is one of only two Teyrnasoedd that has abolished ranks of nobility, having never experienced the kind of feudalism seen in Dyelli Beybi or Guyaland. It's unique Romanesque architecture is regarded by many as the finest in Klatch and has inspired many public buildings in both Outremere and Statenland.

Diocletian is situated on the 'Gonad Peninsula', a large strut of land that extends from the East of the Djel Valley. As such, its only land border is with the Djel Valley. Most of Diocletian is tropical jungle with very little arable land. Central highlands have yielded a few gem mines, but generally the area is mineral poor. The jungle of Diocletian is remarkably hostile, with numerous large predators and dangerous trees. That being said, many of the exotic timbers found in the interior (still largely unexplored by any but Ljósálfar Clans) are highly valuable, and a thriving timber industry exists.

Most of Diocletian's economy is maritime. Fisheries account for a large percentage of National GDP along with maritime trade and associated industries. Gwlad Cloi and Vaadian aggression have both had a negative impact on the Diocletian shipping industry in recent years and Diocletian has fallen from its initial position of wealthiest Teyrnas (although by international standards it is still a very wealthy, economically vibrant state).

Military:
The Free State is the weakest military force among the homeworld Teyrnasoedd. That being said, the long struggle to exterminate the Dökkálfar religion has meant that Diocletian has always had a history of militarism. It should perhaps be no surprise then, that the Free State has one of the highest percentages of its population in the military of any Teyrnas (0.95%). Like all Dyellian States, Diocletian has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.

Navy: Of the three Dyellian naval powers, Diocletian has the smallest Navy, with only 5 Fleets commanded by Grand Admiral Rupert Mortimer.

All up the Free State can field 250 Air Carriers, 250 Air Battleships, 250 Air Battlecruisers, 950 Air Cruisers, 1,400 Air Destroyers, 500 Air Transports, 200 Armoured Cruisers, 200 Monitors, 100 Scout Cruisers, 150 Destroyer Leaders, 50 Destroyers, 100 Escorts, 50 Destroyer Escorts, 750 patrol boats, 250 torpedo boats, 1,000 submarines and launch capacity for 5,150 VTOL fighter-bombers. This brings the total to 3,600 airships, 1,850 surface vessels, 1,000 submarines and 5,150 aircraft. The Navy currently employs 1,875,000 personnel.

Army: The Free State fields a relatively small, although formidably trained Army commanded by Field Marshall Lampart Morgan. The Army is organised into the Diocletian Corps (80 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 410,880 Combat Infantry, 24,480 Tanks, 19,200 IFVs, 4,800 AA vehicles, 2,400 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 24,000 Guns, 6,400 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 2,440,000 personnel.


Air Force: The Free State has a single 10 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshall James Bellamy.

General:
Reunified Fasta Benj is very much a nation of two halves. The old East Benjia is wealthier and has a greater proportion of nobility and Djel immigrants while the West has a much higher percentage of Benjians and Oompa. Benjians are noted for their extreme xenophobia and highly developed sense of honour.

Fasta Benj is mostly a large arrable plain with mountain ranges separating it from Guyaland to the North and the Djel Valley to the East. The large tropical islands of Martin and Lobsters offer numerous sheltered bays and ports and are frequent holiday destinations for people from elsewhere in the Teyrnasoedd. The Benjian manufacturing and service industries are highly developed, with Fasta housing the largest IT sector anywhere in Dyelli Beybi.

Military:
Fasta Benj has a strong military that has been known to continue fighting in the face of guaranteed defeat and appalling losses (such is the Benjian sense of honour). Guyaland is perhaps the most centrally controlled Teyrnas. There are very few extremes of wealth and poverty. When reunifying, Guyaland was careful to ensure that former Vrakian Guyaland was not economically disadvantaged. Massive investment in the manufacturing sector in these areas have meant that they have rapidly recovered to the point of being on a par with 'New Dyelli'.

Separated from Fasta Benj to the South by mountains, Guyaland also enjoys a short border with the Djel Valley and a Northern border with Vrak. The centre of the country is mostly desert, although outside of that zone that country is marked by areas of dense jungle and arable farm land, much of which is devoted to growing rice. Guyaland's economy as a whole is focussed on non-luxury manufactures.

Military:
Guyaland is a militarily capable regime, famous for its dramatic interventions in Djel Valley politics. Due to the fact that the Free State is land-locked, it does not have a navy. As such, it has a relatively small percentage of its population bearing arms (0.43%). Like all Dyellian States, Guyaland has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.

Army: The Free State's Army is commanded by Field Marshall Eugene James Ming (Viscount of Bialystok, NB. This is a Polonian rank, technically Guyaland has no nobles). The Army is organised into the Guyaland Corps (100 Divisions).

Outremere is a decentralised State divided into four Prefectures (Gaul, Italy, Illyricum and the East) and one offworld colony (Vrak). While a central Government is elected, much of the day to day running of the State is handled by the provincial assemblies. Outremere is hailed as an untainted bastion of Dyellian culture and is a frequent tourist destination for homeworlders seeking to get in touch with their culture.

Outremere is situated surrounding a major inland sea (connected to the ocean via a narrow straight) on the planet also known as Outremere. The climate ranges from Temperate in the Northern provinces to arid semi-desert in the South and East. To the East Outremere borders seven separate Dyellian states not included in the Teyrnasoedd while to the South it borders on the inhospitable Prus Desert. Outremere contains enough arable land to sustain a vibrant agricultural industry, but the majority of its economy is powered by manufactures created from Statenland raw materials. Outremere is one of the wealthiest Dyellian states and is coincidentally the heart of the Dyellian arms manufacturing sector.

Military:
The Outremerians, despite bordering on sea do not maintain a navy due to their monopoly on petrochemicals on the planet that cripples all non-friendly regimes. Despite its huge size, the Military of the United Prefectures has a somewhat poor reputation within the Teyrnasoedd. It is noteworthy that the Army and Air Force are completely excessive for defence of the Outremerian state and are more designed to aid homeworld States in crisis. 0.60% of the Outremerian population belongs to the active military. Like all Dyellian States, the United Prefectures has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.

Space Navy: Grand Admiral Hector Maine commands the Space Forces of the United Prefectures.

All up the United Prefectures can field 19 Carriers, 25 Battleships, 167 Cruisers, 500 Destroyers, 500 Corvettes, 1,700 Fighters, 200 Deep Space Scouting Vessels and 250 Transports. The United Prefectures are also responsible for 100 Orbital Defence Cannons and 3 Space Stations (Vrak, Outremere, Homeworld). In addition to this, the Space Navy commands 5 Brigades of Marines, with an effective combat strength of 111,000 infantry. The Navy currently employs 1,517,700 personnel.

Army: The Army of the United Prefectures is split into 4 Corps, each of 100 Divisions. These Corp are Gaul Corps, Italia Corps, Illyricum Corps and Africa Corps. The Army is led by Senior Field Marshall James Sullivan.

Politics: Polonia-Lietuvos is an unusual state in that it does not officially acknowledge the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd, although it acknowledges Alexia ap Adam as the join head of state. It generally stands aloof from internal Dyellian politics. Parliament is bitterly divided between Wormsians (who control the Lords and thus the right to veto legislation) and Episcopalians (who control the Commons and right to propose legislation). The integration of the Archduchy as an independent state in the Teyrnasoedd was regarded as a major Wormsian victory. Unlike other area where Wormsianism is often associated with Bathian politics, all Polonian parties (which are considerably less organised than in other nations) are Chevalier in outlook. 'Gwlad Cloi' remains in place by virtue of the fact that all access to Polonia-Lietuvos is controlled by Outremere.

General:
Polonia-Lietuvos is heavily controlled by the nobility. While most Polonians are, on an international scale, relatively well off, that minority which make up the nobility are obscenely wealthy.

Polonia-Lietuvos is located to the East of the Outremerian State of the world of 'Outremere' although the two powers are separated by the Mark. A rugged coastline in the North gives the Archduchy ocean access. Climate is generally temperate although in northern regions is subarctic. Polonia is comparatively underdeveloped when looked at next to the other Teyrnasoedd states. Agriculture makes up a disproportionately large percentage of GNP and rates of urbanisation are lower than anywhere else in the Teyrnasoedd. The Archduchy's main export is grain.

Military:
The Archduchy's standing military is a new phenomenon with many of the nobility and Commons viewing it as a potential instrument of 'Arbitrary Government'. A mutual defence treaty with Outremere means that is has the largest and most dangerous blue seas navy of any Dyellian State although it does not have the airships other Dyellian Navies are noted for. Due to the mistrust of a standing army, the Archduchy has a small percentage of its population under arms (0.33%). While promotion by merit exists in the Archduchy, the majority of promotions are bought, and most officers are gentry. Like all Dyellian States, the Archduchy has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time, although unlike in other states, in the Archduchy this duty falls to the local Lord.


Navy: The Archduchy's Navy is commanded by Grand Admiral Michelle von Wirtem. It is organised into 11 Fleets although many submarines and smaller vessels are separately organised.

Politics: Cambria is what is described by the Dyellians as a 'Brythonic Kingdom'. In such Governments, 'Chieftains' (143,873 in total) are elected on a geographical basis. These in turn elect from among themselves 'High Chieftains' (1,438 in total) who in turn elect 'Princes' (14 in total) who elect from amongst themselves a King. All positions are held until the occupant dies, abdicates or is impeached by the electors for their area. With the exception of the election of Chieftains which are taken in a normal manner, elections involve all electors being sealed in a room until the majority can agree on the new apointee. Violence in such meetings is not uncommon and is, in fact, regarded as a legitimate tactic by the general population. Cambria is a major proponent of Gwlad Cloi.

General:

On the planet of Outremere, Cambria inhabits the northern portion of a continent to West of Outremere the Teyrnas. Cambria is a sparesely populated state with a poor infrastructure. Most Cambrians live as subsistence farmers although there also exists a military elite from which the local Chieftains are usually elected. Cambria has a minor jewelry and furniture industry. More 'civilised' states often regard the Cambrians as poor, however, the Cambrians tend to view themselves as living a culturally superior lifestyle to that of other Dyellians.

Cambria has a history of warfare with Outremere, and while it was defeated in the 'Valentian War' and forced to abandon its outposts on the islands off the Outremerian coast, Cambria propper was never subjugated by the Outremerians.

Military:
Cambrian infantry are perhaps the finest in the Teyrnasoedd. Often poorly supported, Cambrian troops are trained in irregular warfare. Cambrians collect the heads of slain enemies, leading to the mistaken belief in many States that they execute prisoners. Despite having an almost non-existant Navy, Cambria has a relatively high percentage of its population in arms (0.96%). Like all Dyellian States, Cambria has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time although in Cambria these people are referred to as 'the Fyrd'.


Navy: Following the Valentian War, Cambria was cut off from Outremerian steel and oil. Much of the fleet that wasn't destroyed during the war was decommissioned leaving the Navy a husk of what it once was. The Cambrian Fleet is notably small and serves mainly to patrol the Cambrian Exclusive Economic Zone. Rear Admiral Joseph Thomas commands the Cambrian Fleet.

All up the Navy of the Kingdom can field 1 Armoured Cruiser, 2 Destroyers, 6 Motorised Patrol Boats, 1 Amphibious Transport Dock, 1 Oiler 3 Naval Helicopters, 8 Transport Helicopters and several tugs and other small vessels. The Navy currently employs 2,200 personnel.

Cambria does not have any dedicated tanks, although its heavily armoured self propelled artillery carry cannons with the potential to fire a variety of armour piercing rounds.


Air Force: The Kingdom has a single 3 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshall Mered Mariner.

All up the Air Force can field 2,340 supersonic fighters, 2,160 subsonic fighters, 720 torpedo bombers, 480 heavy bombers, 960 naval bombers, 420 transports, 480 refuelling aircraft and 120 control aircraft. General:
Existing on a moon in the Vrak Sector, the Gens Automata was once the site of research into creating artificial humanoids - Automata. Due to the illegal nature of this research, the moon was declared not to be a part of the Teyrnasoedd. When it was decided to shut the experiment down (and destroy all Automata), the Automata on the moon rebelled, neutralising the PMC running the base in a 12 hour period. With the aid of an Outremerian Chekist of Nordu origin - Arfindhel Telperion (now Vice Admiral of the Automaton Fleet), the Automata were able to broadcast several messages to the world of Vrak, exposing their situation. The public backlash against the experiment led to the resignation of several senior Outremerian Ministers and the rapid integration of the 'Gens Automata' into the Teyrnasoedd.

The Free State today inhabits the same moon of the original experiment. While most citizens are Automata, a significant minority of settlers from other regions exist. The moon itself is generally arid. A not insignificant high-tech business sector makes up the core of the Automaton economy, although it is also the home of several private security firms.

On Automata
Automata are much more like organics than many might suspect. They are gendered, fuly sentient and form strong emotional attachments, particularly to other Automata. Physically they appear to be human or Djel although a small minority are able to change their facial features at will. Automata are extremely physically strong, fast and accurate with firearms. They are programmed from inception to communicate in all six official languages of the Free State, but can also communicate with each other over Wifi. Automata are also capable of plugging themselves into a computer network and are viewed as extremely dangerous hackers.

Despite initial fears that the population of Automata would spiral out of control, it was soon discovered that the rate of Automaton population growth was very low. While the creation of a new Automaton programme is extremely fast, the cost and time involved in building a new 'mobile platform' is astronomical meaning that population growth is extremely slow in comparrison to organic population growth.

Due to the generally non-hierarchical nature of the society that evolved in the Gens, neither the Episcopal Church of Cyro nor the Church of Worms was able to get much of a foothold (although both made attempts to evangelise the Automatons). A peculiar non-hierarchical, evangelical denomination known as 'Automaton Presbyterianism' took the place of the two established Dyellian denominations. It has since gained a foothold in nearly every Dyellian state, particularly Tara. Automaton Presbyterianism is particularly interested in Aquinean ensoulment theory.

Military:
The Gens Automata's military is large for its size (0.93% of the population). Although numerically small and using vehicles sourced from Cambria, the number of Automata in the ranks of the Free State's armed forces makes it a force to be feared (particularly the Trained Bands which are significantly more effective than those of other States).

Space Navy: The small Space Navy is a recent addition to the Automaton Armed Forces after nine vessels were purchased from Outremere. Vice Admiral Arfindhel Telperion commands the Space Forces of the Free State.

All up the Free State can field 1 Cruiser, 4 Destroyers and 4 Corvettes. The Navy currently employs 3,200 personnel.

Army: The Army of the Free State is modelled on the Brythonic organisation as used by Cambria, Tara and the Mark. This was chosen as the minimum effective unit was smaller than the standard Dyellian model. The Army is made up of a single Division commanded by Lieutenant-General Justin Brun.

All up the Army can field 6,500 Combat Infantry, 336 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 60 AA vehicles, 300 Guns, 80 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 25,500 personnel.

Politics: the Mark, like Cambria, is what is described by the Dyellians as a 'Brythonic Kingdom' with one small twist - one of the Princes (the Prince of the Northmark) is hereditary, and standard titles of nobility exist within his domain. The Prince of Northmark cannot be impeached. People in the Principality of Northmark still elect Chieftains who's High Chieftains appoint the 'Shadow Prince of Northmark', who participates in Monarchical elections along with the Hereditary Prince. The Mark has 115,610 Chieftains, 1,156 High Chieftains and 12 Princes (including the Prince of Northmark) who elect the King.

General:

On the planet of Outremere, the Mark borders several Outremerian prefectures. To its West is the Prefecture of Gaul, and to the South the Prefectures of Italy and Illyricum and a short stretch of border with the Prefecture of the East. To the East of the Mark lies Polonia-Lietuvos. The Slovanian valley runs from the Outremerian border deep into the Mark, although a history of friendly relations between the Princes of the Mark and the Slovanian Government means that this has never been a major issue. To the North, the Mark has a long coastline, although it has no Navy. Most of the Mark is grassland, and large herds of cattle are reared by the underurbanised population.

The Mark is, like Cambria, a highly underdeveloped region of the Teyrnasoedd, with the majority of the population living as farmers. That being said, artisan goods from the Mark are sought after in many Dyellian states, particularly Outremere, and a thriving furniture and jewelry industry exists alongside the dairy and meat industries.

Military:
The infantry of the Mark are equipped and trained in a similar manner to Cambrians, although the Mark does not have the same history of conflict with the Outremerians. This does not mean, however, that the Outremerians allowed oil to be exported to the Mark until its inclusion in the Teyrnasoedd, and as such the Mark has no Navy and a relatively small Airforce. 0.67% of the population of the Mark is under arms. Like the Cambrians, the Mark refers to its Trained Bands as 'the Fyrd'.


Army: The Kingdom's Army is commanded by Field Marshall Jonathan Tapsell. The Army is organised into the Corps of the Mark (20 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 130,000 Combat Infantry, 6,720 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 1,200 AA vehicles, 6,000 Guns, 1,600 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 510,000 personnel.

Although the Mark does not have any dedicated tanks, its heavily armoured self propelled artillery can be fielded as such.


Air Force: The Kingdom has a single Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Vice-Marshall Israel Hus.

All up the Air Force can field 780 supersonic fighters, 720 subsonic fighters, 240 CAS aircraft, 160 heavy bombers, 320 medium bombers, 140 transports, 160 refuelling aircraft and 40 control aircraft. In addition to this the airforce are responsible for 150 SAM sites and an unspecified number of ICBM launch facilities (240 missiles). The Air Force currently employs 265,000 personnel.

Politics: Slovania is a small Teyrnas that is very much in the Outremerian sphere on influence. With repeated demands to be allowed more seats in the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd being blocked by Veiland and the Djel Valley, Outremere chose to push for the integration of the Slovene Free State (formerly Slovene Republic) as a full member of the Teyrnasoedd. Prior to this, Slovene and Outremerian politicians had been exploring options for integrating Slovania as fifth Prefecture of Outremere.

General:

The Slovene Free State is a long valley on the planet of Outremere. Originally settled by Moskauans from Veiland, the thriving industry of the Free State has since drawn immigrants from all corners of the Teyrnasoedd. The Free State is surrounded on all sides by the Mark except in the South-West where it shares a short border with the Outremerian prefectures of Gaul and Italy. The Slovene Free State is land-locked.

Slovania is a heavily industrialised Teyrnas that sells large amounts of manufactured goods to both the Mark and Outremere. It also has a highly developed banking industry and has traditionally been the source of many loans for Offworld States. Citizens of Slovania enjoy a standard of living that is rivalled by only the wealthiest of other States.

Military:
Due to its notable good relations with other States, Slovania's Armed Forces have never been involved in a major war although training is reported to be of dubious quality. Part of guaranteeing this state of peace involves having a proportionally large Armed Forces. 1.60% of the population of the Teyrnas is under arms (excluding Trained Bands).


Army: The Free State's Army is commanded by General Michal Spychalski. The Army is organised into the Slovene Army (8 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 41,088 Combat Infantry, 2,448 Tanks, 1,920 IFVs, 480 AA vehicles, 240 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 2,400 Guns, 640 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 244,000 personnel.

Central Government tends to favour the opening of foreign trade routes due to unfavourable prices in Outremerian controlled systems. Statenland is a major player in offworld politics and is far more influencial than its three votes in the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd might suggest.

100% English - The Statenland accent has a thick and distinct drawl that is more or less pronounced depending upon the world. Grammatical structures and word choice are also slightly different from other Dyellian English speakers.

General:
Statenland is a Confederation of seventeen planets and moons that mostly rule themselves. The environment varies massively between world, although most are relatively arid (Hasbranda, a mostly ocean planet being a notable exception).

Statenland forms the bulk of mining opperations in the Teyrnasoedd and many States, notably Outremere, are highly reliant on Statenland ores to keep their industries running. Despite this, Statenland is not the wealthiest of States, having an underdeveloped and uncompetetive local manufacturing industry. Following the end of the War of Independence many of the independent freight carriers who had opperated on behalf of the Rebellion were replaced by large Outremerian companies capable of offering more competetive rates. Many of these individuals, unable to find work in the post-War depression turned to smuggling or piracy. While most pirates were quickly erradicated the smuggling problem remains to this day.

Military:
The Statenland military was born of the War of Independence. While, initially, Statenland had little access to warmachines, it has since reorganised its Army and Air Force according to the Djel Valley system (in use in most of the Teyrnasoedd). During the War of Independence, Statenland units both planetside and in space were noted for their exceptional esprit de corps, which often made up for a lack of equipment. Statenland is a lightly armed regime with 0.37% of the population belongs to the active military. Like all Dyellian States, the Confederated Principality has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.

Space Navy: Grand Admiral Malcolm Parr commands the Space Forces of the Confederated Principality.

All up the United Prefectures can field 9 Battleships, 25 Cruisers, 112 Destroyers, 395 Corvettes and 100 Transports. The Navy currently employs 448,000 personnel.


Army: The Army of the Confederated Principality is organised into the Statenland Corps of 40 Divisions led by Field Marshall Julius Exeter.

All up the Army can field 205,440 Combat Infantry, 12,240 Tanks, 9,600 IFVs, 2,400 AA vehicles, 1,200 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 12,000 Guns, 3,200 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 1,220,000 personnel.


Air Force: The Confederated Principality has a single 2 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshall Sarah Burton.

All up the Air Force can field 1,560 supersonic fighters, 1,440 subsonic fighters, 480 CAS aircraft, 320 heavy bombers, 640 medium bombers, 280 transports, 320 refuelling aircraft and 80 control aircraft. In addition to this the airforce are responsible for 200 SAM sites and maintains 320 ICBMs as part of the Archduchy's commitment to Teyrnasoedd mutual defence. The Air Force currently employs 530,000 personnel.

General:
Tara is a planet-state on the Outer fringes of Dyellian space. Originally settled by Cambrians and Mark folk, the colony was supposed to serve as an outpost of Brythonic culture that was isolated and therefore safe from the more 'corrupt' States of the Teyrnasoedd. Like other Brythonic states, Tara is ostensibly poor, with little industry and the majority of the population living as subsistence farmers. Tara trades very little with the other states of the Teyrnasoedd.

The planet of Tara itself is a fairly typical world with a tropical equatorial belt, expansive oceans (31% of the surface is land) and polar ice shelves. Terraforming resulted in more of the land is grassland than most planets.

Military:
Taran troops are organised and trained along Cambrian lines. While Tara has never been involved in an international conflict, bickering between Princes has occasionally led to bloodshed. Like the Cambrians, Taran soldiers collect the heads of slain enemies. 0.82% of the Cambrian population serves in the active military. Like all Dyellian States, Tara has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time although, like the other Brythonic states, refers to these as 'the Fyrd'.


Space Navy: The Taran fleet was mostly built in Statenland, although a few flagship vessels are of local design. Queen Sophia personally commands the Navy

All up the Kingdom can field 10 Battleships, 28 Cruisers, 123 Destroyers, 435 Corvettes and 110 Transports. The Navy currently employs 493,000 personnel.


Army: The Kingdom's Army is commanded by Field Marshall Peter Bercovic. The Army is organised into the Cambria Corps (100 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 650,000 Combat Infantry, 33,600 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 6,000 AA vehicles, 30,000 Guns, 8,000 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 2,550,000 personnel.

Tara does not have any dedicated tanks. Its self propelled artillery fill this role.


Air Force: The Kingdom has a single 10 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshall Valandil Ancalime.

Politics: Urukania was given provisional admittance to the Teyrnasoedd before it actually controlled any land, it being envisaged as an independent Orcish homeland. Due to the practice of slavery, Urukania is a pariah in the Teyrnasoedd. It is suspected that an Alliance of Cambria, the Mark and Tara with logistical support from Statenland is planning an invasion of the Confederated Duchies. For reasons of security, Urukania supports Gwlad Cloi.

General:
At the time that the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd gave the charter for 'Urukania' to colonise a world it was thought that this would involve a terraforming effort as had all previous Dyellian colonial efforts. However, the 'Urukania Charter Corporation' had already decided it would be cheaper and more economically viable to conquer and enslave a primitive planet. The planet selected, on the edge of Dyellian space, was home to a race of Elves known now as the Prenael with a technology level roughly equivalent to nineteenth century Europe. The invasion was a success, and a number of Prenael collaborate with their Orcish overlords to ensure the obedience of the vast majority of their kind. Obviously this has not endeared Urukania to the majority of the Teyrnasoedd, and while the Djel Valley and Outremere have attempted to reach a diplomatic solution to the problem, other States, notably Cambria and Tara have called for military intervention. The notorious 'Redstone' spy ring, responsible for the assassination of several prominent Urukanian business leaders and politicians is made up of mostly Prenael and Nordu and believed to be an offshoot of the Cambrian Cheka.

Religiously, Urukania has come under attack from the Episcopal Church of Cyro, Church of Worms and Roman Catholic Church. The ECC is believed to be responsible for funding partisan groups. While the Tzarina has denied this, Order troops have been captured working alonside rebels, making her denials ring hollow.

Urukania's climate is slightly cooler than an 'Earth type climate', with larger expanses of tundra near the poles and a smaller equatorial tropical belt. It is also heavily forrested, particularly in temperate zones. Urukania manufactures large amounts of metal and textile goods although most Dyellian states refuse to import them.

Military:
The Military of Urukania is designed to resist an invasion from space. It was originally designed to have a naval component, but this has proved difficult to produce without the backing of the other States. While Urukania follows a 'Djel Valley' organisational structure, the equipment used is significantly inferior. Along with the standing army (0.87% of the population), Urukania has activated 5,000,000 troops of the Trained Bands (4.99% of the population) most of whom are allocated to police duties.


Army: The Confederated Duchies's Army is commanded by Field Marshal Garshel Hegric. The Army is organised into the Urukania Corps (20 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 102,720 Combat Infantry, 6,120 Tanks, 4,800 IFVs, 1,200 AA vehicles, 600 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 6,000 Guns, 1,600 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 610,000 personnel.

While moderately Bathian in outlook, the Confederated Duchies have made no effort to life Gwlad Cloi.

General:
Veiland is a massive Teyrnas that stretches across large tracts of arctic and subarctic territory in Northern Klatch. Originally refered to as the Dyelli Beybian Antarctic Territories (D.B.A.T.) despite the fact that it was located in the Arctic, the territory briefly assumed full independence as the Republic of Timaru and Moskau before reintegrating as Veiland. The brief period of independence lef to two massive, opportunistic invasions that left most major cities mere husks. With funding from the Djel Valley and Guyaland, Veiland has now completely rebuilt (although the scars of war can still be seen in some cities) and has thriving textile and oil industries.

Geographically, Veiland is landlocked with the exception of the port of Timaru which opens onto 'lake pond', allowing Veiland merchants access to the sea via the Axe Cannal. The extensive land borders, particularly in the North, are largely wilderness. This has been exploited by large numbers of illegal Orcish immigrants who have made Veiland their home.

Military:
Veiland is a militarily capable regime. It is reputed to have the finest artillery regiments in the Teyrnasoedd. During the Independence Wars, Veiland units were frequently known to fight to the last man. Despite its proximity to Ilek-Vaad, Veiland has a relatively small percentage of troops under arms (0.43%). Like all Dyellian States, the Confederated Duchies have the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.

Army: The Army of the United Duchies is commanded by Senior Field Marshall Edward J. Jones. The Army is organised into the Veiland and Arctic Circle Corps (each 100 Divisions).

Politics: Witch's Isle is a tiny Teyrnas off the South coast of the Djel Valley. Historically, Witch's Isle was claimed by Dyelli Beybi since the 13th century, but never actually settled. In the reign of Alexia I, Witch's Isle accepted Dyellian sovereignty in exchange for military protection by the Djel Valley. While technically Witch's Isle has a vote in the Parliament of the Teyrnasoedd it usually always abstains.

Witch's Isle is a moderate sized island with a tropical climate. It is close to the Djel Valley coast and it is host to a modest sized Ymerodrol Naval yard. Witch's Isle has a thriving banking sector and also sells tropical fruit to the Djel Valley.

The one city in Witch's Isle, the 'High King's Hall' is built underground in the traditional manner of Hardmandle city building. This means that most of the surface is free for agriculture. Casual visitors often underestimate the population of the island for the same reason.

Military:
Witch's Isle has no military.

The Races and Species of the Teyrnasoedd


Elder Races and Hybrids
The so called 'Elder Races' of Dyelli Beybi can be divided into two broad groups. Elves, usually refered to as 'Ljósálfar' on census forms and races with significant Elven lineage. All groups within Dyelli Beybi are noted for their delicate facial structures, gracile build, speed and coordination. Those without the distinct leaf shaped ears, or who have chosen to hide them, can easily be mistaken for a Caucasian human.

Appearance: While Ljósálfar is often used as a term to refer to all Elves, it is, in reality the tribal name of the Elves that originally inhabited modern day Diocletian. The Ljósálfar are tall and are mostly blonde with blue or grey. Hair colours range through all human ranges, although eyes are either blue or dark brown. It is important to note that no Ljósálfar have green eyes. Ljósálfar are universally light skinned and light build. Perhaps the most distinguishing feature are the ears, however, which have been described as being the same shape as magnolia leaves.
Average Height: male; 6' female; 5'6''
Physiology: Ljósálfar are extremely resistant to communicable disease and cancer is unknown. Injuries tend not to leave scars. Ljósálfar are also noted for a body repair process the Dyellians refer to as 'regenerative coma'; when severely injured a Ljósálf will pass unconscious, diverting all the body's energy to healing. This allows Ljósálfar to recover from horrendous injuries, although there is no conscious control over when the Ljósálf passes out and this can occasionally put the individual in greater danger than the injury.

Nordu: homo gracile gracile
Appearance: Nordu are a tribe of Ljósálfar that inhabited the Northern reaches of Klatch around modern day Veiland. Typically they have darker hair and very slightly darker skin than their Southern brethren.

Physiology: Same as Ljósálfar.
Average natural lifespan: Functionally immortal.
Common Surnames: Elanesse, Dorthonion, Telperion.


Prenael: homo gracile pernix
Appearance: Prenael are the only species in Dyelli Beybi that is not native to the Klatch but generally strongly resemble Ljósálfar and Nordu although there are some differences. While skin tone is similar to Nordu, Prenael and Ljósálfar differ in eye colour, which ranges through all colours found in humans; green eyes are very common (25%). Perhaps the most instantly noticeable difference between Prenael and Ljósálfar is, however, the ears, which are longer and more slender.

Physiology: Physiologically, Prenael have many of the same traits as Ljósálfar, but cannot enter regenerative coma. Although from the planet now known as Urukania, the Prenael are closely genetically related to all other elder races, and indeed, can interbreed with Humans, Djel and Ljósálfar (Dyellian science is incapable of explaining why this is).

Djels/Moskauans: homo gracile obscurus/homo sapiens sapiens
Appearance: Djels and Moskauans are typically olive skinned to pale, with dark hair and eyes, although variations are not uncommon. Leaf shaped ears are extremely uncommon in modern Djels (0.001%) although their existence suggests that this was the ear shape of the original Djels.

Physiology: Although originally a functionally immortal elder race, modern Djel, having interbred extensively with humans, are not. Ageing is, nevertheless slowed. Like Ljósálfar, Djels can enter regenerative coma and are resistant to most diseases.
Average natural lifespan: 160 years (In a small minority this lifespan is much longer, with some Djel having estimated natural lifespans of up to 800 years.)
Common Surnames: Southern Djel; Davies, Jones, Gruber. Northern Djel/Moskauan; Kowalski, Baginski Lebedev. NB: This difference is a linguistic one. Southern Djels tend to speak English and/or a dialect of German while Northern Djels speak an unrelated language known as Moskauan.


Levantine Djels: homo gracile obscurus/homo sapiens sapiens
Appearance: Levantine Djels are a minor group in the Teyrnasoedd, who are markedly taller and slightly fairer than other Djels. These individuals are almost all religiously Jewish - the size and appearance are the result of a history of ghettoisation and considerably less interbreeding with the local Djels following the human conquest.

Physiology: Almost identical to that of other Djels, although the ageing process is not so markedly slowed.

Appearance: While Djels and Ljósálfar typically don't interbreed in most Dyellian states, in the Brythonic States (Tara Cambria and the Mark) this practice is encouraged giving rise to Hangwaed. Hangwaed appear similar to Djels, but with a greater prevalence of recessive eye and hair colours. The prevalence of leaf shaped ears is 0.3%.

Physiology: Similar to all other Elder races, although the ageing process is generally slower than in Djels.
Average natural lifespan: 400 years (wide variation).


Humans
Homo spaiens sapiens make up a huge proportion of the Dyellian population. Nobody in Dyelli Beybi will call themselves a 'Human' though, and will always identify with a specific race grouping. As Humans are genetically so similar, no section on physiology has been included, neither has a section on average natural lifespan.


Benjians
Appearance: Benjians are a darker race of people originally from Fasta Benj (which they settled in c.800AD), often described as looking a lot like Malays. Benjians universally have black hair and brown eyes except where they have intermaried with Djels.

D'Regs
Appearance: D'Regs are an olive skinned race of people of probable Arabic descent who settled in the Djel valley in 1187AD. D'Regs usually have dark hair and eyes, although variation in eye colour is not uncommon with many having grey or green eyes.

Diocletians
Appearance: Diocletians are the longest established human grouping in Klatch, having been present since c. 500BC. They are Caucasian in appearance. Just over half the population has blonde hair and blue/green eyes.

Guyans
Appearance: Guyans only arrived in Klatch in 1187AD, settling in modern day Guyaland. Guyans are East Asian in appearance and fairly pale. All Guyans naturally hair dark eyes and black hair.

Other Species
Along with the numerous Human and Elven groups, the Teyrnasoedd also hosts a number of other sentient species native to Klatch.


Hardmandle: pumilius dvermer
Appearance: Hardmandle are an extremely unusual species. Nocturnal, Hardmandle eyes have huge pupils, although during daylight these shrink to mere pinpricks. The iris is also quite large and often is all that is visible in the eye socket. Most hardmandle eyes are amber, although green eyes are also common. Blue eyes are rare, but do exist. Hardmandle have universally dark hair. Male Hardmandle are smaller than females and built robustly, while females are gracile and taller. Despite spending little time in sunlight, Hardmandle are olive skinned, and the females, when wearing protective eyewear (which they usually do during daytime) can often be mistaken for Djels or D'Regs.

Physiology: Hardmandle age slightly more slowly than a human. Hardmandle cannot breed with any other species.

Oompa: pumilius oompa
Appearance: Oompa are an uncommon species in the Teyrnasoedd, only having a major population in Fasta Benj. Oompa are small, robust with dark eyes and dark hair (although this is inevitable died a variety of garrish colours). Oompa have unusual orange coloured skin.

Physiology: Like Hardmandle, Oompa cannot breed with any other species
Average natural lifespan: 80 years.

Orcs/Uruks: kobold magnus
Appearance: Orcs are huge, muscular creatures. Originally found in Northern Klatch, they have now spread throughout the Teyrnasoedd. Orcs usually have dark eyes and little hair. Skin tones range from pale green through to ebony. Faces tend to be quite broad and flattened.
Average Height: male; 6'11'' female; 6'1''
Physiology: Orcs, despite their huge size, require relatively little food. Muscle hypertrophy is also a much faster process than in any other group.
Average natural lifespan: 80 years.
Common Surnames: Ashnakson, Garg, Agrek.


Wal-Vrak
Wal-Vrak are essentially sentient Walruses of Vrakian origin. Traditionally not found in Dyellian territory, a sizeable minority now exists in Guyaland. To date no study has been carried out on the Wal-Vrak.

Additional Military Forces

In addition to the military forces of the States, several other legal Militaries exist in Dyelli Beybi that are unlinked or only partially linked to the Governments of the States.

The Army of the Episcopacy
Often disparagingly referred to as 'magpies' due to their distinct black and white parade uniforms, the Army of the Episcopacy (AoE) are a well trained and well equipped infantry force. Due to the large number of wars in Dyelli Beybi, the AoE has been able to demand that only troops with actual combat experience be admitted to their ranks. Unlike State military units, the AoE does not have its own dedicated logistics wing, due to the fact that its mission is almost exclusively to aid the States in the defence of key Church structures. While the States have no direct control over the AoE, the AoE requires a State charter in order to engage in any military action. The AoE is divided into several units.

Army of the Archbishop: (13,250 personnel - 10 Regiments) The Army of the Archbishop is the senior unit of the AoE and is the only Army body allowed within the boundaries of the city of Saint Guinefort (the Navy is permitted). It has been known to have taken up arms against the State on a number of occasions, most recently against Pierre Soult. The Commander-in-Chief of the Archbishop of Saint Guinefort (currently John Hackett).

Inquisitor Guard: (1,300 personnel - 1 Regiment) The Inquisitor Guard is a traditional Guard unit of the Djel Valley. Facing dissolution after the 'Inquisition Incident', the Guard was reallocated as an AoE unit and purged of the majority of its troops and all senior officers. The husk of what remains now serves primarily as bodyguards in areas where the Inquisition opperates (primarily the central highlands of Diocletian), although it can also be chartered by a State to aid in the enforcement of religious laws.

Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon: (26,500 - 20 Regiments) During the reign of Richard IV, Dyelli Beybi was host to a vast number of Knightly orders independent of the crown. The only order to survive the second Republic were the Poor Fellow-Soldiers. Now with AoE funding the Poor Fellow Soldiers have grown to 20 Regiments and are instantly recognisable for the white tabards with red crosses that they wear as part of their dress uniform. These units are mostly stationed in areas where there are large congregations belonging to the Church of Worms, ostensibly to protect ECC congregations, although in the event that the Tzarina calls a crusade, the Poor Fellow-Soldiers are pledged to answer the call. Due to the possibility of one being called in Urukania, the Poor Fellow-Soldiers are banned from that State.


Noble Retainers
In the Teyrnasoedd, nobles are able to raise their own private armies and the raising of these is regarded as a matter of status. It is estimated that there are around 363,000 Retainers across the Teyrnasoedd. Uniforms are usually colourful and designed more for appearance than functionality. Weapons and training are often of a low quality. Exceptions to these rules include the retainers of House ap Adam who fought with distinction during the 'Inquisition Incident'. Despite their many problems, Retainer units are inevitably ferociously loyal to their Lord or Lady and have a culture of taking Honour very seriously.

The police and military tend to take a low view of so called 'Teulu-Wars' (when the nobility use Retainers to fight out feuds). In instances, however, when the military is unwilling to engage for political reasons (e.g. the 'Inquisition Incident'), Retainers tend to be called upon by Government bodies. During the Inquisition Incident large armies of retainers were called upon, fighting a major engagement at Slat Mill Ford.


Royal Guard

The Royal Guard is a Professional Army of Three Divisions that is under the direct command of the Tzarina. Due to the fact that it is drawn exclusively from the population of the Djel Valley, the Royal Guard has been listed with the Army of the United Kingdom.

The Field Commander of the Royal Guard is General George Claverhouse (Earl of Northwood).

All up the Guard can field 15,408 Combat Infantry, 918 Tanks, 720 IFVs, 180 AA vehicles, 90 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 900 Guns, 240 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. There are a total of 91,500 personnel in the Guard.


Trained Bands (also referred to as the Fyrd/Landeswehr/Volkssturm)

These units occur in all States and are a militia of sorts. The Bands train for two weeks a year and are paid a small monthly salary for uniform and weapon maintenance (which often does not cover these). Band subsidies are paid from the budget of the Teyrnasoedd, although they remain under the command of the individual States. In practice it is not hard for the State to foot the Bill if Teyrnasoedd Parliament votes to cut off the subsidy.

Being a member of a Trained Band is regarded as a status symbol and many opperate more like clubs than military units. It is the Duty of the Deputy-Lieutenant (or Chieftain in Brythonic cultures) to raise the Bands at times of need and keep a record of who is a member and who is not. Record books are often poorly kept, making it hard to keep track of exactly how large the Bands are, however it is estimated that approximately 7% of the Dyellian population are members at any one time.

In practice the Bands are not expected to be an effective military force. Bands may be used to hold a non-critical point of a line where there is a mobile reserve of professional units. They may also be called upon to take up the duty of logistics personnel, freeing these more highly trained soldiers to act as front-line infantry.


Ymerodrol Navy
The Ymerodrol Navy is a large, professional military that draws from all Dyellian States, but mostly those that do not have a Navy of their own. It has bases all along the homeworld coast and is headquartered at Helensfall in Diocletian. Unlike other homeworld Navies, the Ymerodrol Navy does not use airships. It was designed with the intention of providing not only backup for the Homeworld Navies engaged in Fleet to Fleet combat, but as an instrument of united foreign policy. As such the Ymerodrol Navy reports to the Ymerodrol Secretariat which in turn reports to the Council of Leaders of the Teyrnasoedd Sanctaidd Cloi of Dyelli Beybi (a body made up of the Prime Minister/co-Head of State for each Teyrnas and the Tzarina). In practice, however, the Secretariat reports to the Court and the Ymerodrol Navy can be seen almost as the Tzarina's personal fleet.

Due to the complications of freeing up a State fleet to act in the name of the combined Teyrnasoedd and the relative ease with which a Royal Edict can dispatch the Ymerodrol Navy to do the same, if a fleet appears under a Dyellian flag, it is almost always that belonging to the Ymerodrol Navy.

Unlike most other non-State forces, the Ymerodrol Navy is as well trained and supplied the military of any State. Her officers are also treated as equal to State officers of equal rank.

The Ymerodrol Navy is commanded by Grand Admiral Alison Shearer. It is divided into 11 Fleets of large size, although smaller vessels such as mine clearers are organised separately. The Ymerodrol Navy has no smaller vessels for coastal patrol as this is not one of their duties. The Ymerodrol Navy follows the usual rules of Dyellian ship nomenclature.

The Navy can field 88 Super Carriers, 11 Super Heavy Battleships, 264 Pocket Battleships, 264 Battle Cruisers, 296 Oilers, 144 Amphibious Transport Docks, 160 Ballistic Missile Submarines, 7,200 Supersonic Fighters, 1,200 VTOL Fighters, 112 Naval Helicopters, 1,152 Transport Helicopters and numerous tugs and small support vessels. There are currently 2,900,000 personnel employed by the Ymerodrol Navy.

General:
Claverdor is one of four States on the frozen world of Terranix. Claverdor is a single island close to the equator close to the Helegdorian coast. Despite being geographically the smallest Terranixian state, Claverdor has the highest population density (39 people per square kilometre). The Claverdorian economy relies heavily on marine exports.

Historically Terranix, due to its ice-age climate, was regarded as a terraforming failure. Despite this, it began to rapidly attract minority settler groups, initially mostly Nordu who's homeland (Veiland) remains one of the coldest homeworld states. As the economy began to grow and cities to pop up, large numbers of Moskauan settlers arrived. Claverdor was a hub of Moskauan settlement, and these people now form the largest cultural grouping on the island (although Nordu are still a significant minority).


Military:
The Duchy has occasionally clashed with Drosnen, although it has always played a subsidiary role to Helgdor and these conflicts have never escalated beyond posturing with naval units. 0.56% of the Claverdorian population serves in the active military. Like all Dyellian States, the Duchy has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time. Claverdor is also host to numerous Helegdorian military bases, and there are often as many Helegdorian military personnel on the island as Claverdorians.


Navy: The Duchy's Fleet is small and serves only to enforce Claverdor's Exclusive Economic Zone. It is commanded by Rear Admiral Anton Tusk.

All up the Navy of the Kingdom can field 1 Armoured Cruiser, 2 Destroyers, 6 Motorised Patrol Boats, 1 Amphibious Transport Dock, 1 Oiler 3 Naval Helicopters, 8 Transport Helicopters and several tugs and other small vessels. The Navy currently employs 2,200 personnel.


Army: The Duchy's Army is commanded by Lieutenant-General Huor Narmolanya. The Army is organised into 1 single Division on Brythonic lines.

All up the Army can field 6,500 Combat Infantry, 336 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 60 AA vehicles, 300 Guns, 80 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 25,500 personnel.

Claverdor does not have any dedicated tanks. Its self propelled artillery fill this role.


Air Force: The Duchy maintains a Fighter Wing of two Squadrons (In a normal Dyellian airforce a Wing has four Squadrons) of Airco FM2 'Vampire' Supersonic Fighters. It is commanded by Wing Commander Hissan Ali.

All up the Air Force can field 20 supersonic fighters, it is also believed that they have a single nuclear missile sold to them by the Helegdorians. Presumably it has a launch facility. The Air Force currently employs 2,100 personnel.

General:
Drosnen is on the larger of the two continents of Terranixia which stretches from the ice caps and glaciers of the Northern polar region, to those in the South, meaning that Drosnen cannot be circumnavigated. Most people live around the temperate central region, although substantial settlements also exist in the North and South. Drosnen initially attracted several large groups of Guyan settlers and, for a while, was the focus of the Guyan state's colonisation efforts (which were more centralised than other Dyellian regimes).

Drosnen's economy has a focus on agriculture and produces large quantities of grain as well as substantial quantities of fur and ivory for export. Perhaps, due to the large Guyan population, the State puts a lot of effort into social welfare, and houses in Drosnen are regarded as having better heating and insulation (for their climactic zones) than those found elsewhere on Terranixia.


Military:
The Confederated Duchies are unusual in that they have four branches of the military - having both a Space Navy and a Blue Seas/Air Navy. Despite Government dectractors describing the State as 'colossally overarmed', by Dyellian standards Drosnen has only a moderate percentage of its population under arms (0.55%). Like all Dyellian States, the Confederated Duchies can call up Trained Bands in war time.

Space Navy: The Space Navy, commander by Grand Admiral Jorg Errikson is the newest of the armed services, having recently been purchased from Statenland. Despite the reliance on Statenland to produce the vessels, the Navy is, in fact, twice the size of that fielded by Statenland.

All up the Confederated Duchies can field 18 Battleships, 50 Cruisers, 224 Destroyers, 590 Corvettes and 200 Transports. The Navy currently employs 896,000 personnel.


Navy: The Archduchy's Blue Seas/Air Navy is commanded by Grand Admiral Jennifer Lee-Davies. It is organised into 8 Fleets.

All up the Navy of the Principality can field 400 Air Carriers, 400 Air Battleships, 400 Air Battlecruisers, 1,520 Air Cruisers, 2,240 Air Destroyers, 800 Air Transports, 320 Armoured Cruisers, 320 Monitors, 160 Scout Cruisers, 240 Destroyer Leaders, 80 Destroyers, 160 Escorts, 80 Destroyer Escorts, 1,200 patrol boats, 400 torpedo boats, 1,600 submarines and launch capacity for 8,240 VTOL fighter-bombers. This brings the total to 5,760 airships, 2,960 surface vessels, 1,600 submarines and 8,240 aircraft. The Navy currently employs 3,000,000 personnel.


Army: The Archduchy's Army is commanded by Field Marshall Isidore Park. The Army is organised into the Drosnian Corps (100 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 513,600 Combat Infantry, 30,600 Tanks, 24,000 IFVs, 6,000 AA vehicles, 3,000 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 30,000 Guns, 8,000 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 3,050,000 personnel.


Air Force: The Confederated Duchies have a single 10 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshall Hector Wang.

All up the Air Force can field 7,800 supersonic fighters, 7,200 subsonic fighters, 1,200 CAS aircraft, 1,200 torpedo bombers, 1,600 heavy bombers, 1,600 medium bombers, 1,600 naval bombers, 1,400 transports, 1,600 refuelling aircraft and 400 control aircraft. In addition to this the airforce are responsible for 1,000 SAM sites and an unspecified number of ICBM launch facilities (1,600 missiles). The Air Force currently employs 2,650,000 personnel.

General:
Erebgloss is one of four States on the frozen world of Terranix. Set in the Southern hemisphere, Erebgloss is due south of Helegdor. Unfortunately, due to its position in the extreme South of the continent, most of Erebgloss is covered by glaciers and very little land is inhabitable. That which is is largely barren, although there is a sizeable oil industry and New Cyro itself houses a sizeable manufacturing sector, making the inhospitable Nation a relatively wealthy one.

During the settlement of Terranix, not all Djels and Diocletian humans were happy to live in areas with large elven populations, and Erebgloss initially had virtually no elven settlers. Over time, however, attitudes softened, and Erebgloss now has a sizeable minority of Nordu and Prenael (although virtually no Ljósálfar).


Military:
While the Duchy has a standing military, it is small and has never been deployed. 0.90% of the Erebglotian population serves in the active military, and, in the manner of all Dyellian States, the Duchy has the ability to call up Trained Bands in war time.


Navy: The small fleet of the Duchy is commanded by Rear Admiral Luke Castle.

All up the Navy of the Kingdom can field 1 Armoured Cruiser, 2 Destroyers, 6 Motorised Patrol Boats, 1 Amphibious Transport Dock, 1 Oiler 3 Naval Helicopters, 8 Transport Helicopters and several tugs and other small vessels. The Navy currently employs 2,200 personnel.


Army: The Duchy's Army is personally commanded by Duke Franciszek. The Army is organised into 1 single Division on Brythonic lines.

All up the Army can field 6,500 Combat Infantry, 336 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 60 AA vehicles, 300 Guns, 80 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 25,500 personnel.

Erebgloss does not have any dedicated tanks. Its self propelled artillery fill this role.


Air Force: The Duchy maintains a Wing of two Squadrons (In a normal Dyellian airforce a Wing has four Squadrons), one of Airco FM2 'Vampire' Supersonic Fighters and one of Benjcat B1N 'Goose' Naval Bombers. It is commanded by Wing Commander Earwen Minyatur.

All up the Air Force can field 10 supersonic fighters and 10 naval bombers. Erebgloss is not believed to have any ICBMs or launch facilities. The Air Force currently employs 2,100 personnel.

Politics: Like the other major state on Terranix, Drosnen, Helegdor has a bicameral legislature with an upper House of Lords (which includes several Bishops of the Episcopal Church of Cyro).

General:
Helegdor is on the smaller of the two continents of Terranixia which stretches from the ice caps and glaciers of the Northern polar region, to just south of the equator. A large inland sea is also present with a major island - The Isle of Bones, which is a major source of sulphur. Most people live around the temperate central region, although substantial settlements also exist in the North. Helegdor is remarkable in that it is currently the only elven majority State in the Teyrnasoedd. Chosen by Nordu leaders as an ideal colony site due to its rejection as too cold by most Dyellian Governments (and the Nordu being a race who lived in the arctic circle anyway), Helegdor rapidly grew, stimulating colonisation in other parts of the planet.

Helegdor's economy has a focus on mineral extraction with a substantial manufacturing sector as well. While it is more densely populated than Drosnen it is also agriculturally self-sufficient.


Military:
The Confederated Duchies are unusual in that they have four branches of the military - having both a Space Navy and a Blue Seas/Air Navy. The military of Helegdor has been built with the idea of repelling any threat from Drosnen, and it is nearly the same size. The elan of Helegdorian units has been commented on, although they are yet to see engagement in a major war. Helegdor has only a moderate percentage of its population under arms (0.55%), althoough, like all Dyellian States, the Confederated Duchies can call up Trained Bands in war time.

Space Navy: The Space Navy, commander by Grand Admiral Findecano Calaelen is made up of vessels supplied by Outremere (with whom Helegdor has a strong relationship).

All up the Confederated Duchies can field 6 Carriers, 17 Battleships, 110 Cruisers, 330 Destroyers, 330 Corvettes, 1,100 Fighters, 135 Deep Space Scouting Vessels and 170 Transports. . In addition to this, the Space Navy commands 3 Brigades of Marines, with an effective combat strength of 66,600 infantry. The Navy currently employs 927,000 personnel.


Navy: The Confederated Duchies's Blue Seas/Air Navy is commanded by Grand Admiral Patrick Belmont. It is organised into 9 Fleets.

All up the Navy of the Principality can field 450 Air Carriers, 450 Air Battleships, 450 Air Battlecruisers, 1,710 Air Cruisers, 2,520 Air Destroyers, 900 Air Transports, 360 Armoured Cruisers, 360 Monitors, 180 Scout Cruisers, 270 Destroyer Leaders, 90 Destroyers, 180 Escorts, 90 Destroyer Escorts, 1,350 patrol boats, 450 torpedo boats, 1,800 submarines and launch capacity for 9,270 VTOL fighter-bombers. This brings the total to 6,480 airships, 3,330 surface vessels, 1,800 submarines and 9,270 aircraft. The Navy currently employs 3,375,000 personnel.


Army: The Confederated Duchies's Army is commanded by Field Marshal Hildegarda Dorchowski. The Army is organised into the Helegdor Corps (100 Divisions).

All up the Army can field 513,600 Combat Infantry, 30,600 Tanks, 24,000 IFVs, 6,000 AA vehicles, 3,000 Self Propelled Artillery Carriages, 30,000 Guns, 8,000 Attack Helicopters and numerous non combat vehicles. The Army currently employs 3,050,000 personnel.


Air Force: The Confederated Duchies have a single 10 Sector Air Force, commanded by Air Chief Marshal Mahtan Earfalas.

All up the Air Force can field 7,800 supersonic fighters, 7,200 subsonic fighters, 1,200 CAS aircraft, 1,200 torpedo bombers, 1,600 heavy bombers, 1,600 medium bombers, 1,600 naval bombers, 1,400 transports, 1,600 refuelling aircraft and 400 control aircraft. In addition to this the airforce are responsible for 1,000 SAM sites and an unspecified number of ICBM launch facilities (1,600 missiles). The Air Force currently employs 2,650,000 personnel.
