The magic tiering is a bit too restrictive. Not all magic is spells or conjuring.

As I did not write up the magic tiering, I was not responsible for that. I'll see what I can do, and get back to you later.

Nation: The Damalgian Union
Tier: 8-9—scavenger tech. If you lost it, or you had it but we had more firepower, we've probably got it now.
Level: -1. Damalgians are pretty close to anti-psychic. Not in the "nullifying psychics" sense—but most species have at least some "baseline" psychic abilities such as empathy or intuition, whereas in Damalgians these are more or less absent to the degree that most of them don't recognise other alien species as sapient. Exceptions are rare and probably go up to level 3 (though the number of Damalgians who can read minds can probably be counted on one hand). So most leaders tend to be at least 0s if not 1s, and one of my recurring characters, Sde'ashi, is a definite 3 (only in terms of psychic abilities, mind)
Type: 7
Special Notes about your civilization: Technically a collection of nations that took to the skies after the destruction of their homeworld, fought many wars against one another and eventually united. And built a new homeworld. There are actual, physical worlds under the Union's control, but as they are unsuitable for Damalgian life they are mostly used for raw materials and eventually abandoned.

Special Notes about your civilization: A Dyson Sphere was created on a small star by an eccentric trillionaire, it was the project that completely bankrupted him, but it now generates approximately 3% of Seedar's power and this trillionaire is praised as a national hero. All citizens are born with limited magical abilities. However, with extensive training and dedication one can develop highly advanced and extremely powerful magical abilities which can either cause massive destruction or beauty, depending on the intentions of the individual. The actions of Seedar's first Chancellor helped to promote Seedar's influence across the universe and Seedar controls a lucrative spice trade.

I suppose you could make another list so people can differentiate between what someone has controll over and how much you have influence over.

In your magic levels, you don’t have an option for races that are psychically null – not able to be affected by psionics/magic/etc. As this is a thing with some nations and/or races (like mine), you might want to add that in somewhere (I’d recommend Level 1).

Now comes the part where I reply to all y'all's suggestions.

Petrolheadia wrote:Any Improvement Suggestions for the Index? Instead of one tech tier, there should be a bunch of them for different parts of technology.

I'll be honest: Too Much Work.

Cyborgs And Sentient Machines wrote:I don't know which type to choose, I have controll over a significant portion of my home Galaxy, and I have some influence in the Multiverse.

It's really a matter of scale: is your influence across the multiverse on a greater scale than influence over a single universe (in other words, is the area affected larger than a universe in size) ? Then you'd be a Type 11. If not, well then you'd likely fall into a lower Type.

And honestly, it's self reporting, who am I to know what you should pick? Just choose what seems best for you.

Cyborgs And Sentient Machines wrote:I suppose you could make another list so people can differentiate between what someone has control over and how much you have influence over.

That would be pointless, I think, as influence counts for more than direct control. Also, I didn't really want four lists that everyone had to look at, which is why I ditched the old "how far has your nation traveled?" scale.

I'm not entirely sure if not being affected by magic counts as magic. I mean, it's an interesting characteristic, but I don't really know if it fits. I suppose it could probably go in Level 1, since I guess anti-psychic powers could be a psychic power itself. I'll think about it.

The magic tiering still needs some work. Look at tier 5 - "launching small fireballs and minor waves of arcane energy... Small amount of people... Great cost." By this metric, something like firebending from Avatar the Last Airbender would almost surely be a 5.5, likely a 6 since actually firebending doesn't come at any great cost and likely would be common. Contrast this with earth or waterbending, both of which probably can be included under the umbrella of "telekinesis:" neither rank on this scale greater than 3 or 4, even though they're actually equivalent to firebending.

Just some food for thought.

Tier 5 refers to spells such as casting fireballs, not literally the ability to launch fireballs. It's an example.

But let's consider a few things here:
1) Bending is not really magic, per say. I guess one could call it that, but in the Avatar universe it is something something chi something, and is a natural ability that can be stopped by effects on the body (see: chi blockers, blood bending, etc.) It is also hereditary. Now, I suppose one could argue that magic can be hereditary and magic can be affected by bodily harm, and that the apparent origin of bending was as a gift from giant spirit turtle lion things which implies magic, but... uh, yeah.

2) Fire bending is inherently more magical than earth, air, or water bending. Of the four, fire bending is the only kind that doesn't require the element to be present in the area, as firebenders literally generate their own fire out of nothing. It may not be more difficult to do than the others, and may be equivalent in power, but it certainly breaks more physical laws, and thus would be, in my opinion, "more magical". Of course, I still think it would fall lower than Tier 5, as firebenders don't really have a good diverse spread of "spells".

3) I did not make the Magic Tiering system. I merely proofread it.

Nation: The Dalek Empire

Tier: 10

Level: 3.5*

Type: 11**

Special Notes about your civilization:
*It is a little known fact that Daleks are somewhat psychic. They are able to move their casings psychokinetically in the absence of conventional power, can extract the brainwaves of other organisms to read their thoughts, and are connected by a telepathic network, the Pathweb, which enables Daleks to share information (something like a psychic internet). Specially augmented Daleks, called Psyche Daleks, also exist with enhanced psionic abilities including mind control, although they are rare and seen as abominations by most Daleks due to the Daleks finding any sort of tampering with the basic Dalek paradigm an affront to the purity of the Dalek race.
**This Dalek Empire exists in an alternate timeline wherein the Daleks defeated the Time Lords in the Last Great Time War and went on to create their own Web of Time, essentially imposing Dalek control on causality, and eradicated every other living thing in their home universe, going so far as to go back in time to ensure no other lifeform ever actually existed. The Daleks themselves exist within a stable paradox outside of causality, enabling them to exterminate their own evolutionary forebears without erasing themselves from existence. The Daleks are currently preparing to launch a multiversal campaign of extermination, purging entire universes of life in order to acquire new "living space" for the supreme beings.

Nation: Altmoras
Tier: 6
Level: 0
Type: 6
Special Notes about your civilization: With a GDP of 66.41 trillion and a highly martial culture the Grand Imperium of Altmoras is largely MT but due to massive investment in military, industrial and digital technology the Imperium is 5-10 years ahead of the real world technologically. Virtually all technologies used in the Imperium exist in the real world but they are usually prohibitively expensive prototypes or just not broadly implemented. 5th generation fighter jets have been in service for almost 2 decades with the 6th in development. Suborbital spaceflight is employed by select airlines and the military, a manned mission has landed on Mars, smartphones have been ubiquitous since the early 2000s. Gene therapy and regenerative medicine are widely used in medicine. Coal power has been almost completely eliminated in favor of Hydroelectric, Nuclear, Solar, and Wind. The first Quantum supercomputers are being brought online. All public transportation is fossil fuel independent. Major cities are filled with hundreds of 100 story+ high rises and reach up to 10 stories underground. High Speed rail lines that travel in excess of 450 kmph are a regular sight. And 70% of motor vehicles are hybrids or fully electric.
