I think I've come to the realisation recently that the modern MBT isn't an evolution of the medium tank, but the heavy tank. Just that modern automotive systems now allow today's "heavy tanks" to have their mobility.

Am I particularly wrong, given the typical assertion is that the mobile medium tank just became heavier?

Or is it synthesis of both classes?

The front turret isn't one turret, it's two side by side. And if I can make it look good, it will have sponson guns and maybe a hull gun.

I actually was thinking about a troop compartment

I'm being charitable. About 1970 is when long-range gunnery, highly capable well-protected MBTs, air-delivered PGMs and decent ATGMs definitely started coming into play.

They look cool and, in alt history 1920s/30s RPs, make for interesting plot devices i suppose

So far the armament consists of three turrets, two at the front one at the back. Each turret has one 150mm gun, two .50 M2s (one coax, one pintle) and two .30 M1919 periscope guns on each rear corner of the turret for the loaders. There are also two 40mm AA guns in oscillating turrets at the front of the hull, with the driver behind and between them.

I was going to give it a fixed 150mm howitzer underneath the driver but that seems a bit redundant given the size of the main guns, and a larger howitzer would cause space issues for its loader.

Give it a rear firing Sturmtiger rocket mortar or something. That way the vehicle can fart enemies out of existence.

Even if I lowered the front turrets, I would still have to raise the rear to make it shoot over them, which would make it even more stupidhigh.
