The MBT-90 first entered service in 2005 and succeeded the MBT-70 and is now the main battle tank of the Buttastic Army. The MBT-90 has seen action in the middle east during the war in afghanistan supporting NATO in their attack on terrorism and is now seeing conflict on the war on ISIS.Development of the MBT-90 started in 1992 after a joint project with the United Kingdom and West Germany to create the MBT-80 failed.The main focus was to make a tank that was capable of high speeds on cross country areas and urban areas.Another main focus on the MBT-90 was to greatly improve the armor from its previous counterpart,the MBT-70,while still maintaining the ability to have great firepower without sacrificing speed.
The MBT-90 can achieve speeds of 72 km/h on cross country roads while still maintaining the ability to accurately fire on the move up to 5,000 meters on rough terrain.The main gun is the Rheinmetall 130mm L/51 smoothbore gun.There are also a coaxial 7.62 MG-3 machine gun,a 12.7-mm mg that is mounted in a CROWS weapon system,and a Panzershreck-16 mounted in a CROWS weapon system used for eliminating infantry,light armored vehicles,and helicopters.The tank carries 42 rounds of ammunition for the main gun, 3000 rounds of ammunition for the MG-3, 1500 rounds of ammunition for the 12.7-mm mg, and 2000 rounds of ammunition for the Mauser BK-27.
The MBT-90 is armed with a Rheinmetall 130-mm L/51 smoothbore gun.The gun produced in ButtasticWaffles.The MBT-90 has a very advanced fire control that allows it to track and engage other land vehicles at a long range,without a human operator manually firing the gun.The maximum firing range with the control system is 18 kilometers.There is a coaxial MG-3 that is controlled by the gunner and a 12.7-mm machine gun that is placed in CROWS weapon system that allows the commander to fire the gun from inside the tank to offer the most protection.Located on the back of the turret is a Panzershreck-16 gun that is also placed in a CROWS weapon system.The gun is mainly used for eliminating helicopters that are out of range of the main gun.The commander also controls the gun.
The MBT-90 is powered by the license-built MTU MB-837 Ka501 diesel engine, developing 1 500 horsepower. There is also an auxiliary gas-turbine power unit, developing 400 horsepower that powers onboard systems when the main engine is turned off. The MBT-90 has a state of the art semi-active hydropneumatic suspension. Every boogie wheel can be individually controlled, allowing the MBT-90 to "sit", "stand", "kneel" or to "lean" in any direction. This feature gives tank a number of advantages.It is aslo claimed that this type of suspension on the MBT-90 is also easier to maintain than traditional suspensions on other tanks.
Currently the MBT-90 is one of the most advanced main battle tank in the world, outclassing anything North Korea or China have.Furthermore it is one the most expensive main battle tanks to date,overtaking the Japanese Type 90 MBT at a price of 8 million US dollars.This tank uses both modular composite armor of undisclosed type and Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) blocks. It is has been demonstrated that the front armor withstands direct hits from 125-mm tank rounds.The MBT-90 tank is also completed with an active protection system and countermeasures system. The tank is also completed with an NBC protection system. Protection of the MBT-90 is similar to the Challenger 2.Considering that the MBT-90 is lighter,it is claimed that the MBT-90 is superior to the Challenger 2.
