Infantry Discussion Thread, Mk. 8 Mod. 0 [No Kaiju]

PostPosted: Tue Oct 20, 2015 12:54 pm
by Puzikas
Welcome to the Infantry in your Nation thread! A continuation of the Main Military Weapons thread series.

Unlike the previous series, this thread Is for the discussion of of your national military small arms, body armor, uniforms, communications gear, other general equipment, tactics or histories. All tech levels are welcome, but please understand that this thread tends to be geared towards past, modern, and postmodern tech, so designs operating on unexplained basis or pseudo-science are bound to be criticized from a realistic perspective. If having your designs evaluated for a realistic perspective does not appeal to you, it is advisable you do not post here. There is nothing wrong with future tech, fantasy tech, or any other non-modern technology based nation posting a design, and you are welcome to post here, but be prepared for the inevitable "That won't work because..." post. These are not meant to offend you, they are meant to teach you. If you do not require enlightenment, simply leave it alone.

If you do post a design here, you agree that it will likely be criticized by the denizens of this thread. You are under no obligation to change the design based on this criticism, but continuing to argue in the face of facts will not bode well for you. Further, if you are unsure as to a design element, ask. If someone asks and you do not know the answer, don't respond. Speak on subjects you know, don't attempt to bullshit. Finally, there are plenty of people in this thread, both new and old, who have knowledge regarding a vast array of military technologies, try to learn from them. Dispute if you will, but be prepared to use facts to back up your claims.

"Because it's magic" "I'm FT and therefore modern rules dont apply to me" and "because I say so" are not valid arguments. Posters, if a player makes aid argument, drop it. These and other non-answers demonstrate that the poster has no desire to learn, therefore, you can not teach.

Please avoid excessive posting of vehicles, regardless of their effect on infantry deployment, this is an infantry thread first and foremost, we have vehicle and aircraft threads for those. That said, discussion of various Armored Personnel Carriers, Infantry Fighting Vehicles ect. is permitted within limit.

The Rules

~ Originally by Risen Britannia, modified by Transnapastain and again by Aqizithiuda, and again by Puzikas.

1: Read the OP. As you can probably guess from the title this thread has been around a while, the OP contains all allot some of the knowledge gained from previous iterations.

2: By posting you are accepting that they WILL be criticized, however it is up to you whether you listen (though you aren't going to make friends if you don't).

3: If you do offer criticism, make sure it's constructive, and don't assume that the person you're criticising knows what's wrong. "That won't work", "That's completely wrong" "What the hell is that abomination" and similar comments aren't helpful or constructive. Tell people why whatever is being designed won't work, especially if they ask you to explain. Saying "lul, an idiot can see why that won't work" or "because *insert obscure hint that only helps if the person you're talking to has the exact same set of knowledge as you do*" and similar things will only lead to flame wars, trolling and people getting banned. Don't be a dick.

4: Be civil, site rules still apply. Due to past incidents we have Mods (Transnapastain) who is a regular here.

5: Whilst not encouraged off topic posts are allowed to an extent, EG you wont get a warning if you post a jet or tank etc... Just remember this thread is for infantry equipment, including but not limited to small arms, armor and uniforms.

6: While the F&NI sub forum is in-character, most posts in technology discussions threads are OOC in nature. IC statements can be made but are not the norm and may not be read as in character.

7: Excepting page topping "gun porn", or "infantry porn", large images will be placed in spoilers. "Large" will be determined by moderation. If you are asked to place images in spoilers, please do so.

8: Be extra nice to Transnapastain

9: No feeding the trolls

10: Respect is earned, and your post probably isn't as funny as you think it is.

11. Do not fill up the thread by constantly posting the same thing over and over again. If you have a problem with another player, please place them on your ignore list.

GOLDEN RULE
Do not talk about politics, we don't care if you were just replying to someone, don't do it!

A composite List of modern Military Projectiles and Ammunitions, by Puzikas and Aqizithiuda. Includes 100 different projectiles ranging from a .17HMR FMJ to 14.5x114mm, the list covers 44 different named ammunition loads, with 37 rifle and 7 pistol rounds. Entries highlighted in Green represent military loads used in, in use, or with potential application in military settings. Areas highlighted in Blue are estimated figures for lack of concrete data or conflicting sources.

Finally, we have a list of regulars here, members who have been with us for awhile. The list below contains important information for first time or new posters on who knows what and who you may need to ask for information.

List is partial

Nirvash Type TheEND
Aliases: Nirv, Nirvash
Nationality: persona non grata in 187 countries
Areas of knowledge: Interbellum weapons, general small arms, swords and medieval arms and armour

Nirv is an artist and longtime veteran of the Infantry threads. Originating in the Main Military Weapons threads, Nirvash is the noted member of the unfortunate guard of the thread who seem unable to escape the pull. Or maybe Nirv never wanted to. Known for slowly increasing in sarcasm levels and frilly pink things, Nirv is known to be helpful, sometimes, and is typically knowledgeable on topics they engage in. If Nirv doesn't know, be sure that nirv will in the future.

Fordorsia
Aliases: Ford
Nationality: Gaulish
Areas of knowledge: Swords and sword accessories, medieval arms and armour, art, infantry weapons

Ford is another longtime member of the guard of the infantry threads, having originated from the Main Military Weapons threads like many others. Known for posting art often, Ford is probably the primary artistic contributor to the thread by volume alone. Knowledgeable in swords and sword accessories, Ford hates fun and will post swords to remove fun from the premises. Generally not malicious, Ford might answer your question, or might just post a sword.

Estovnia
Aliases: Prem, Premislyd, The Axolotl of Suffering
Nationality: Sapling
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, military cartridges, Infantry tactics, medical knowledge

Prem is a longtime asset to the infantry threads and their predecessors. A common occurrence in most MilTec threads, Prem is an excellent artist. Not known for being particularly helpful at all times, Prem will occasionally expunge knowledge, but rarely in a nice way. Which is why we keep Prem around. Known as “Prem” due to an ex-nation lost to some form of rampant tyranny, we’re sure.

Galla-
Aliases: Galla
Nationality: Hairball
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, tactics, military vehicles, combined arms theory, unit composition and organization, technology development, cartridges, military history, common sense

Galla suffers a long term love/hate relationship with the infantry threads, and indeed miltec threads in general. Needing somewhere to sperg but not wanting to do so in front of people, Galla settled and decided that no one in the infantry thread and other MilTec threads could really be considered “people”. A generally excellent artist, Galla posts art on occasion and generally needs no correction, because it's almost always perfect. Knowledgeable in many areas, Galla might express mercy and answer your question, but do so with a splendid display of a wall of text in a manner that will make you feel a bit uncomfortable. But that's okay, just let it happen.

Husseinarti
Aliases: San, SanSilv, the Axolotl of Hate
Nationality: Skycancer
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, infantry tactics (American, French), American weapons, French weapons, German Weapons, artillery, trolling, Medieval arms and tactics, M4 carbines

San is a running joke of the infantry threads and probably of the real world. While not certain, San is assumed to be at least 25% peanut. The boogeyman of High Explosive Fragmentation, San is a Real-World cannon cocker, but dont tell him that. Known as “san” due to a previous nation that was deleted for advocating the Youth in Asia, San might answer your question, and due so in a way that is professional and intelligent, but don't ask it again, or you probably won't like the answer you get.

Puzikas
Aliases: Puz, Slav, Old Man, The Axolotl of Knowledge
Nationality: Red Army
Areas of knowledge: Infantry tactics, unit composition, combined arms theory, infantry weapons, small arms, Russian-Soviet military, European militaries, traumatic sciences, infantry vehicles, cartridges, military history, policing

Puz is a long time begrudging member of the Infantry threads, originating in the middle of the Main Military Weapon series. The father of all the IDTs young whippersnappers, Puz is a retired Law Officer and Russian Naval Infantryman. Puz now works as a traumatic scientist, occasionally expunging excessive information that no one reads. Puz probably hates you, but will answer your question with more information than you wanted and leave the topic in a never ending sea of sperg before making fun of something and leaving you just as, if not more confused than when you came in. But you’ll learn something.

Aqizithiuda
Aliases: Aqi, Aquiz, Aqui
Nationality: Kangaroo
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, infantry technology, small arms projects and developments, cartridges and cartridge design, medieval arms and armour

Aquiz is a guard member of the threads. Noted for sage like knowledge of various areas, Aqi is typically a very reliable member of the threads and gets along quite well with everyone. Likely to answer any questions within the vast arsenal of knowledge, you’ll probably learn something of you listen. If Aqi does choose to be mean in any way to you, you almost assuredly deserve it.

United States of Brazilian Nation
Aliases: USBN, Brazil, Hue Hue Hue, World Cup Chump 2014
Nationality: Brazilian
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, jungle warfare, Brazilian armaments

USBN is a latecomer to the Military Weapons threads, but a very welcome one none the less. Eager to learn and even more eager to draw, USBN graces us with art often and helps where possible, when possible. USBN is an agreeable individual who will help to point many on their way weapons; though a rare sight as of late, he is always welcome.

Korva
Aliases: None.
Nationality: Probably none
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, small arms

Korva is probably human, and probably isn't a series of randomly generated lines of code made to LOOK like a poster. Korva knows things, but korva does not know that korva knows these things.

Transnapastain
Aliases: Trans, The Mod, Obersturmbannführer Trans
Nationality: Mod
Areas of Knowledge: Infantry weapons, military history, small arms, police tactics and procedure, site rules, pain

Trans is the resident Mod. Though seldom seen, trans is known to lay the law down the law where applicable, and occasionally answer some rare questions or settle occasional disputes. Trans probably won't bother you unless you bother him. Don't bother him.

Tule
Aliases: None
Nationality: Icelandic
Areas of knowledge: Small arms, Infantry weapons, traumatic sciences, Infantry equipment, nukes

Tule is the long time occasional visitor from the other lands to the Infantry Thread. Normally one to be helpful, the majority of Tules posts are inquisitive or informative. Tule rarely bothers anyone, and will probably be ignored anyways, even though he normally knows what he's talking about.

Spreewerke
Aliases: Spree
Nationality: Mosin
Areas of knowledge: Infantry weapons, Small Arms, Russian weapons, American weapons, firearm law, Law Enforcement

Spreewerke is a long time sperg of the Infantry threads, having amassed a wealth of knowledge on firearms and firearms accessories as a former gun store employee and firearms collector. Spreewerke is employed as a law officer, and has become a somewhat rare sighting, but has been known to appear occasionally. If Spree does pop up, spree might take pity on you and answer your question, in a manner of speaking. Or he might post more Mosins.

Immoren
Aliases: Imm, Immy
Nationality: Finnish
Areas of knowledge: Small Arms, Infantry tactics, military tactics, Finnish military things

Immoren is the IDTs resident Finn, and a welcome member. A generally good natured individual from the North, Immoren is helpful and well versed in various areas, and will generally answer questions whenever possible from his experience. Immoren is not known to speak particularrly ill of anyone or anything and might be considered the most wholesom member of the IDT.

Eisarn-Ara

Aliases: Many.
Nationality: Viking
Areas of knowledge: Big old guns, Infantry arms, metallurgical things, swords and sword accessories.

Eisarn-ara is a long time member of the various Infantry threads under a number of accounts. A generally interesting individual, Eisarn has an interest in large caliber cartridges and massive weapons, while also getting into occasional arguments with Ford, mostly lasting no time at all. Eisarn is a generally useful poster when opting to answer questions, but may not do so in a massive wall of sperg.

Crookfur

Aliases: Cook
Nationality: Very British
Areas of Knowledge: British things, old guns, black powder and pre-industrialization firearms

Cook is Very, Very British. There's not much more to say about this.

Purplelia
Aliases: Purp
Nationality: HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Areas of Knowledge: Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet consectetur adipisci velit

Purp did not come, but has always been and will always be. Purp knows things-what they are, we are unsure at this time-but has been known to answer things. Far less than they ask things-but answered none the less.

Dostanuot Loj

Aliases: Sumer
Nationality: Leopard 1
Areas of knowledge: Historical tactics, combined arms, modern tactics, unit composition, Vehicles and Tanks, general military history knowledge

Sumer is a new poster to the Infantry threads but a long poster of MilTec threads. One of the only people on NS to have a degree in the things they talk about, Sumer is a Military historian and an avid knowledge collector. Sumer will probably answer your questions if he can-and do so better than most people.

The Kievan People
Alieses: Kyiv, Keiv
Nationality: Leopard 2
Areas of knowledge: Historical tactics, combined arms, modern tactics, unit composition, Vehicles and Tanks, general military history knowledge

Kyiv is essentially Galla and Dostanuot Lojs lovechild. Unfortunately for kyiv, no amount of complaining will ever convince us otherwise. Kyiv is naturally predisposed to be nice, but because of a recent compromise in hull integrity, kyiv has been less and less likely to actually be nice. While you might be given an answer, there will probably be sarcasm.

Schwere Panzer Abteilung 502
Aliases: SPA, 502
Nationality: 502
Areas of Knowledge; General infantry knowledge, tactics, German heavy tanks and Vehicles, medieval and pre-medieval warfare.

502 is a newer member of the Infantry threads with a relatively good history of joining in the fun and being serious when needed. 502 rarely interacts with outsiders, mostly because 502 is busy being contained by the 3rd Guards Tank Army

Spirit of Hope

Aliases: SoH
Nationality: ethereal plane
Areas of Knowledge: General military history, infantry tactics, small arms, general weapons knowledge

SoH is a longstanding good samaritan of the Military Technology threads, and the Infantry Thread is no exception. SoH is polite, knowledgeable and friendly, and joins in on the fun just as much. Odds are, SoH will be kind enough to answer your question.

The Archangel Conglomerate

Aliases: Arc/Arch
Nationality: the grimdark future of 2016
Areas of knowledge: Military history, Small arms development and experimental small arms, calibers and cartridges, near-future stuff.

Arch has been a member of the MilTec threads for a long time and has been placing his funky future-twist on the threads ever since. Knowledgeable about small arms, Arch delights in drawing futuristic carbines and pistols in funny calibers that make Puz’ brain twitch. Good natured, Arch is a friendly individual who wioll answer what he can.

Sevvenia
Alieses: Sevv
Nationality: 1940s Everyman
Areas of Knowledge: World War II weapons and history, interbellum weapons and tactics, art and Pimp my Gun, American weapons.

Sevv is the unsung hero of the IDT and that is all that needs to be said. Monuments should be built in Sevvs honor.

Allanea
Alieses: None.
Nationality: Fuel
Areas of knowledge: Soviet shovels and shovel accessories, Soviet-Russian military, Israeli military, general infantry and military knowledge, History

Allenea is an infrequent member of the Infantry Threads who comes through once in awhile and sticks around for a bit, before departing. Generally knowledgeable about whatever's going on, Allenea may or may not answer any question that pops up.

Most of all, have a good time.

Kinda considering something like a cross between the SR-3, AKS-74U and Uk 78 for something to fill the carbine role. Will probably do a suppressed variant also for special troops.

Ideas?

But muh Warpact styling ;_;

Honestly been considering doing modernised/"Westernised" versions of some of my stuff lately though. Black polymer furniture, rails, etc.

Basically like the tacticool'd AKs you see Spetsnaz using.

I went al lthe way over there to get me quotes and you bring them to me.

The Archangel Conglomerate wrote:Why?

The tests that TFB discusses there are..well theyre as much a test as me going up to any old soldier in the US Military and asking them how they like the M4. They never specified if the troops we in combat, if the troops saw prolonged combat, or even if the troops were those of a combat MOS.

This part also got me.

Ze Germans wrote:...The commission was careful, however, not to question the scientific tests that had been conducted on the G36, confining itself only to the observation that they had tested “extreme cases” that were unlikely to occur on the battlefield...

Careful not to address scientific findings? Seems unscientific to me.
"Extreme cases" unlikely to occure on the battlefeild? The world has spent the last 100 years trying to make testing conditions more like the battlefeild to test what could go wrong. The battlefield IS the extreme case. Is it unlikely that the G36 is going to actually preform its cyclic 750 rounds/minute in a combat situation? No, probably not. But it sure could put out 300 rounds in a minute if the shooter is determined enough in a combat situation.

I also have issue with TFB. They may update daily but I have issue with some of their writers, commentators and general user base at times.
Thats very off topic though.

Also no, I didnt forget to add you to the regulars list.

True. Butsomething must be said for user confidence. If the G36 was as rubbish as the initial report claimed, wouldn't this latest group be complaining as well?

This part also got me.

Quite true. Mind, I'm not claiming this as proof that the G36 isn't rubbish. Merely that this investigation is another interesting facet in an overall interesting story.
