Actually I have an idea.

I could put a pin or screw on the rear bracket that connects it to the reciever and make the whole bipod assemply removable. I might need to add a second rear bracket though to make sure it's strong enough for the recoil.
And I could have a cutout along the top of the recoil guard so that the turned bolt handle fits in it. With the bolt turned upwards, the bipod removed and the rear bracket/s free to move, the barrel slides through the recoil guard and off the receiver, taking the spring assembly and top guide rod with it.

An early one, yes.

In a military context a handgun is a "just in case" item, so a red dot sight really isn't necessary as the vast majority of its life will be spent either in a holster or on a rack in the armoury.

This is kind of like saying "an infantryman will rarely hit the soldier they're shooting at anyway so they don't need a red dot for their rifle either".

The good thing about irons, though, is that they don't need power.

Future powered sights will probably be powered from the user's armour/exoskeleton/onboard electronics, and be much more energy-efficient as well. In fact, for a basic sight's power requirements you could probably use a kinetic generator in the weapon so that the soldier's movements power it (plus a contact for topping off if the weapon has been in storage, of course).

Bore size and pressure. I think someone worked out that, as a general rule of thumb, the barrel should have a diameter equal to 2.5 times the weapon's caliber.

That would put my barrel at 75mm in diameter...

And the barrel will b tapered, so it will be either thinner than that at the muzzle or wider than that at the chamber

I don't think I can do either because it needs to removable even with the spring assembly mounted on the barrel.

What if the bottom of the barrel had extentions that are pinned into the reciever? Then when you knock the pins out the barrel and spring assembly slide off the guide rods. The barrel is big and so is the cartidge so it would need to be a really strong mounting system.

Surely something could be gleaned and adapted from the construction of such a thing, even a half-assed facsimile of an interrupted thread-breach could aid in the design of your current project.

The bolt isn't really the problem since it probably would just have interrupted threads or something. The only thing that's an issue right now is how the barrel can be attached while still being easily removable.
