Video Games In Your Nation

Postby Laredo- » Thu Oct 15, 2015 1:48 pm

What is the video game industry like in your nation? Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games? Are any games banned? Which franchise or genre is most popular?

For Laredo, most games come from outside. GameScout is a state-owned company that screens and purchases video games and consoles from the neighboring United States. Once a game or console's content has been approved, multiple copies are bought from American suppliers and later sold to stores in Laredo. Unfortunately we have no internet connection so we have to play everything offline. Hopefully the national intranet will one day incorporate wifi and allow us to access the multiplayer and PVP options. But thats only if the developers want to connect separate servers to our intranet. The good news is "Firelink: Laredo" is FromSoftware's initiative to do just that. And soon we can get the full experience of the Souls series!

Popular games and series include:
Mass Effect, Fallout, Bioshock, Dark Souls, and Dishonored.

Skyviolia has a large video game industry. With titles like The Lost Ones and Pahcie a big hit internationally. Of course there is no censorship restrictions (except for minor exceptions like child porn) and most video games are widely accepted. Some video games do require legal id to play as the game is deemed adult only content. Almost all councils are made by foreign companies or manufactured by foreign companies in Skyviolia.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?
Quite Large, as playing video games is a common pass time.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?
Yes, jut games though, we don't make any consoles.

Are any games banned?
As with any media, we don't ban it. Our media rating board gives it a rating and citizens are free to choice if they want to play it or not. Although, games with an 18E (The E stands for Erotic) tend to not be sold in most stores, so it is a bit harder to find.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?
Most RPGs tend to be pretty popular. Surprisingly, games like Crusader Kings are also really popular.

Video games are extremely popular in Gandoor, with the most popular systems being manufactured by Gandoor's own GameKon, established in 1976, and Nintendo. In addition to these two companies, Sony systems and PC gaming is also fairly popular among gamers here, whereas the Xbox system is all but irrelevant here. No games are banned from sale, although they are rated and all console manufacturers refuse to license unrated games and most retail stores don't stock unrated games. Most unrated games are PC download games, which don't have to worry about licensing or retail space.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?

Relatively big, comparable to real-life Sweden.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?

We make and import video games, the most prominent one being an RTS game called Teronia at Arms and its MMORPG called Teronian Chronicles. As for consoles, we import them from Japan and the United States.

Are any games banned?

None so far.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?

There's the RPG, FPS and MOBA genre.

Video Games are allowed in Birkenau. While the internet is banned for almost all citizens, we do allow computer games. Video-games are very popular in our country, especially for our youth. Women who live at home also enjoy video-games. One example is our Elektronica Computer system with built in cassette player and optional 880k floppy drive. One game, which is popular, and arguably the best is PC-Man 2 and 1, which comes with PC-Man (Pacman Clone), and Super Chess, which is a chess game where there are additional pieces for extra challenge, however you can still play traditional chess. Here is a basic box art image.
Image

Now, down to the facts.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?

Very large, to the point where there are too many video games are being produced. Since the government has been giving more freedom of recreation to the people, the video-game market exploded.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?

We have several. First being the domestic computer brand, Electronica. Its very primitive, but has a huge selection of 'fun games'. We also have arcades, where kids can play virtual combat simulations, where they fight against the communists. Submarine Simulator is popular, followed by Tank Simulator, and 'Race 'Em Up', a game where you race against various wacky cars.

Are any games banned?

Games that speak against our glorious leader. LONG LIVE! Games that have anti fascist propaganda. Games that are sexual, or overly violent, unless they are patriotic and about killing The Red Scourge (Communists).

Which franchise or genre is most popular?

There is no favorite. The most popular are home computer games, with PC-Man being arguably the most popular.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?
Extremely advanced. Most of our games are made to be installed directly to the user's mind and are capable of perfectly simulating entire virtual universes. These simulations are so compelling that some of our few, almost unheard-of safety measures involve features that automatically bring users back to reality every so often in order to keep them from playing until they die in real life from lack of refueling.

Thanks to the usual mode of playing, the video game industry is a huge, though indirect, driver of the anti-virus industry. The latter industry has to keep up with all of the malware that is hidden in counterfeit and otherwise illicit video games.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?
We don't make any true consoles. Those who wish to play their games "externally" (on a device other than themselves) insist on PC games. We wouldn't dream of wasting our time with anything that couldn't be modded.

That said, it is possible to find what appears to be Atari 2600s every so often. These aren't actually Ataris, though. They're Decepticons who were caught trying to hack other Decepticons (or doing other offenses of a similar magnitude) and were forcibly remade into Atari 2600s by vigilantes as a punishment! Such offenses are officially legal, so the people take matters into their own hands. A few of the most boring (to run) old Atari 2600 games have been pirated in order to make the experience even worse. Pong is a favorite to pair these guys with because it's decently fun to play but takes so little mind-power to run that it can drive whoever is stuck being the console to the brink of insanity.

Are any games banned?

Any game that depicts the Autobots as the good guys is most definitely banned. Bans also extend to any game that makes it fun to play as rebels, Autobots, slaves uprising against us, or any other enemies of our nation or its government. It is, however, legal to allow players to play as most of these things - as long as taking the enemy side is insanely frustrating to the player and is designed to be unwinnable.

Modifying a game so that the enemy side is properly winnable is a good way to get Domestic Intelligence to investigate you, at least if they find out about it.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?

Strategy games and RPGs about raiding oil are consistent winners across all age groups. The massive strategy game Conquer the Universe, though it is Leader Megatron's favorite, is generally seen as too long by most people. He has played it so much that he can win it in a 1-hour speedrun, but for most, it takes months and even years to beat all of the 1 billion planets that eventually open up for takeover.

As a scientifically advanced nation with a thriving IT industry video gaming is big business in Nova Sodor.

We have a number of domestic console and game manufacturers who compete for customer share in a fierce open market environment.

We don't ban games however we do have classifications which require that consumers be of a certain age to purchase specific titles.

The most popular genres are open world online net based multi player horror, urban, fantasy and sci fi RPGs

The game industry is certainly thriving in Adab, catering to the growing number of gamers among the younger generation. Our nation does not make any domestic consoles, although some Adabians have started making domestic games. First- and third-person shooters, action-adventure, and open world games are particularly popular in our country. Most games are played on home consoles, although arcade games are quite popular too.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?
It is really large and is able to compete heavily with foreign markets. This is thanks to how popular video games are in the UCA.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?
Yes, the UCA makes games consoles and video games for said consoles as well as other consoles in the market. These include VR games which are selling like wildfire throughout the world.

Are any games banned?
No. All games are rated according to the content they have but other than that, no censorship or banning of games is done. If we did ban some games, they would still get into circulation in our nation and would also serve as giving the game more attention that it would've usually received, so we see it as pointless.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?
Strategy games, such as RTS's, RPGs, and TBS's are quite popular here in the UCA, whether if they are in conventional or VR form. The most popular franchise here is Beyond, a multi-genre series of games based on a massive book series of the same name.
For simplicity's sake, you can call me "UCA"

What is the video game industry like in your nation?
The video game industry, like all other industries, is state owned. Limited entrepreneurship is allowed for development of hardware and software, but it must be manufactured and distributed by the Ceteriusian People's Multimedia Committee approved industries, Virtual Revolution and Ceterius Computer Commune. Though relatively small, the Ceteriusian gaming industry is advanced and capable of releasing software and some hardware rivaling American and European releases.
The People's Customs Committee- MultiMedia Department, controls the importation of hardware and software from outside sources.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?
Ceterius manufactures a variety of Personal Computers running proprietary MicroSoft Windows compatible OS, or Apple's OSX. Virtual Revolution creates a variety of different games, independent programmers also release games through VR.
Are any games banned?

Offically, the Ceteriusian Government censors only hate speech and outright treason. Unofficially, games that feature revolution against Ceteriusian style socialist governments, games that encourage sedition to an unacceptable degree, and games that directly attack socialist ideology are liable to be censored on an unofficial basis. Any media depicting real religious groups in a positive light are almost certainly going to be censored, and even remotely pro fascist content is immediately banned and the creators are taken in for questioning . Exceptions are sometimes made.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?

The most popular genres are city management (Union City being the most popular franchise) and FPRPG (Uprising!).

Postby Imperium Sidhicum » Fri Oct 16, 2015 12:36 pm

In our age, digitalization has reached a point where it is intrinsic to everyday life. Virtual simulations have become so common as to no longer be a distinct genre of entertainment.

All Sidhae, for example, spend their first years of life plugged into a virtual reality that simulates the experiences and teaches them the knowledge and skills a human would normally acquire during childhood and adolescence. This simulation software, known in common vernacular as Dreamtime, is currently the most complex and advanced neuro-interactive simulation in existence anywhere in the galaxy, and is refined enough for the end product - awakened adult Sidhae - to be fully developed and functional as far as the standard specifications for Sidh progeny go.

Likewise, most Sidhae are implanted with augmented reality processors, capable of extended functionality offered by virtual enhancements to their senses, especially vision. Their implanted neuro-link ports allow them to directly interface with most vehicles and many machines, offering supreme control over them as extensions of their bodies, and the advanced sensory input and processing power offered by the hardware of those machines.

For these reasons, videogames as a form of entertainment no longer exist as a distinct genre, either being integrated into one huge digital world, or merged with the real world.

---

Sidhae seeking to fulfill escapist fantasies will often sync up with Dreamtime-derivative servers, which offer a full virtual world for awakened users. There are countless simulations a Sidh can put himself through in this world, and being technologically-literate folk, many Sidhae can also code their own sims with ease. Those with a military inclination will often favour sims of historical battles, meticulously recreated based on historical records and veteran testimonies into accurate recreations with many thousands or even millions of roles available for live participants.

Most, however, prefer real-world activities with digital enhancements. Many will, for example, frequent shooting ranges and exercise their combat skills in tactical matches against holographic enemies. While the experience isn't as epic or adventurous as a neuro-sim can offer, it also contributes to one's physical conditioning, and is more realistic. Sportsmen of all sorts can instantly compare their performance to other sportsmen from anywhere in the Imperium and their favourite sport stars, compare their own technique to theirs and immediately see what they must work on to improve their performance. Vehicle races in designated tracks also look little different from video games these days, digital HUDs along with direct neural control assisting the pilots.

---

The seamless integration of the virtual world into the real world has opened up a number of new research fields, such as virtual archaeology - the search, recovery and study of old and defunct data in the virtual world (as opposed to the recovery of physical data carriers in the real world, which would fall under conventional archaology). Like in the real world, where detritus accumulates over historical deposits over time, so too does fragmented residual data accumulate in the digital world, oftentimes burying valuable historical or other kind of information. It is the job of virtual archaeologists to recover this data.

For example, a functional copy of an Old Terran video game, whether recorded in physical data carrier or digitally, commands a very steep price from collectors and historians. A simple program capable of interpreting old, defunct programming languages as well as ones currently in use is also a highly-valuable find, enabling researchers to access databases that were previously useless due to a lack of means to interpret their contents. Old star charts and planetary maps pointing to long-defunct and forgotten sites and facilities are a precious commodity among salvagers and treasure hunters. Seeking out these valuable files among heaps of useless residual data fragments is what virtual archaeologists do, a task far more interesting than any fictional simulation in their words.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A fool sees religion as the truth. A smart man sees religion as a lie. A ruler sees religion as a useful tool.

The more God in one's mouth, the less in one's heart.

What is the video game industry like in your nation?

It's a sub-industry of the I.T Industry, although it's quite niche since only Students or Young people yet to find a job after leaving University have any time to play them.

Does your nation make any domestic consoles or games?

It's very much a Private Sector Endeavor, but yes, all of them, since the Altmoran Conquest of Avitus. Altmorans are PC Gamers mostly.

Are any games banned?

Nope.

Which franchise or genre is most popular?

Altmoran games are adult-themed. Things like RTS and Grand-Strategy are popular with FPS not too far behind. Also, a lot of people play FIFA. The Legacy of Kain series was (and still is) popular in Altmora. The FPS Series "Spásmaireachtála" is also very popular, which is a series about The Second Great War, with the First game focusing on the Wars in Europe and America, the Second about the African Campaigns and the Third about the Wars in Asia.

Due to differences in technology, we simply don't have video games. It's not that we don't like them, it's just because we have to invent the "Video" part first.
