Commands of your air force?

Postby Wardie land » Wed Oct 07, 2015 8:28 pm

The Royal Imperial Wardie land Air Force uses a command system similar to that of the RAF, the RIWAF taking most inspiration from the RAF, including terminology, ranks, uniforms, roundels etc.

The commands of the RIWAF go like this:

Imperial Air Ministry - The RIWAF's central command.
RIWAF Fighter Command - The command that controls all fighter squadrons.
RIWAF Bomber Command - The command that controls all bomber squadrons.
RIWAF Coastal Command - The command that controls all coastal squadrons.
RIWAF Transport Command - The command that controls all transport squadrons.
RIWAF Training Command - The command that controls all training squadrons.

Additionally, there are "air forces" which are responsible for all squadrons in their given area, an "air force" typically cover all squadrons on a continent, in the case of the colonies, or in a certain area, such as the Home Islands, for example. "Air forces" typically function as "Mini-Commands".

List of air forces of the RIWAF, including historical ones that no longer exist

Home Air Corps (HAC; 1919 - 1934) - The original air force, the successor to the Royal Imperial Wardie land Army Flying Corp's Home Islands Army Air Brigade (HIAAB).
Colonial Air Corps (CAC; 1919-1934) - Air force in command of all colonial squadrons, successor to the RIWAFC's Colonial Army Air Brigade (CAAB).
Imperial Home Air Force (IHAF) - Air force in command of all Home Islands squadrons.
Imperial Desert Air Force (IDAF) - Air force in command of all Western Colonies squadrons. (also known as the Imperial Western Air Force)
Imperial Northern Air Force (INAF) - Air force in command of all Northern Colonies squadrons.
Imperial Oriental Air Force (IOAF) - Air force in command of all Eastern Colonies squadrons. (also known as the Imperial Eastern Air Force)
Imperial Southern Air Force (ISAF) - Air force in command of all Southern Colonies squadrons.
Imperial Independent Night Bomber Force (IINBF) - The IINBF was founded in 1934, following the Air Force Reform Act of 1934, it's purpose is to conduct night bomber raids so the other bomber squadrons are free to conduct daytime activities, IINBF aircraft have special RAF-style night camo, black undersides and fuselage sides, with camouflaged top, the IINBF also uses the special "night roundel(s)", for most of the Pacific War the IINBF didn't see much action, since it was limited from Japan by range, and there were few situations in the Pacific War that called for night bombing, occasionally IINBF squadrons in South-East Asia would conduct raids on Japanese installations in Japanese-held areas of Burma and Malaya, as well as China, one particularly well known bombing campaign of the IINBF were the night raids during the Winterland Campaign of May 1942-January 1943, these were both night harassment raids against sleeping Japanese soldiers, keeping them tired, and against ships, the IINBF saw most action between 1944 and 1945, following the capture of islands closer to Japan, making the Japanese mainland within striking distance, the IINBF bombed cities by night, the Japanese air defence system was pretty poor, and was even worse by night, so the IINBF had a relatively easy time. During raids the IINBF followed British procedure, IINBF pathfinder Mosquitos and Halifax bombers would drop incendiary bombers or flares to mark the targets, and the main force would drop bombers in the general vicinity of the fires/flares. The IINBF also saw action in Korea, Vietnam and Laos.
Pacific and Oriental Air Force (POAF; 1943-1947) - A short-lived subdivisional air force which was made up of squadrons from the IHAF, INAF, IOAF and ISAF, the air forces that all took part in the Pacific War.
Japanese Expeditionary Air Force (JEAF; 1945-1947) - The smallest and shortest-lived air force (though between 1991 and 2001 the MEEAF held the distinction of being the shortest-lived air force, the MEEAF was reactived in 2001, and existed for another 13 years after that, thus making the JEAF the shortest-lived air force once more), the JEAF only consisted of 6 squadrons that were based in Japan for just under 2 years, the JEAF was a subdivision of the POAF, hence it's sometimes jokingly referred to as a "subdivision of a subdivision".
Korean Expeditionary Air Force (KEAF; 1950-1953) - A short-lived air force which commanded all RIWAF squadrons which took part in the Korean War.
Vietnam and Oriental Expeditionary Air Force (VOEAF; 1966-1975) - Air force that commanded all RIWAF squadrons that took part in the Vietnam War and related conflicts, such as the Laotian Civil War and the Cambodian Civil War.
Middle Eastern Expeditionary Air Force (MEEAF; 1991, 2001-2014} - The latest air force to be disbanded, the MEEAF took part in the First Gulf War of 1991, the Iraq War and the Afghan War. The RIWAF was the only branch of the Royal Imperial Wardie land Armed Forces (RIWArF) that served in the aforementioned wars, provided air superiority, anti-vehicle, ground attack and COIN (Counter-Insurgency) support, the air force was disbanded following the withdrawal of RIWAF forces in 2014.
