What are the major holidays in your nation? Do you celebrate any/all of these: Mother's/Father's Day, Thanksgiving (what do you eat?), Which New Years?

There are many religious holidays in Neo Prutenia, celebrated by various groups of people. Every citizen has the right to take 2 days of a year, to take part in and celebrate in one of those festivities. Besides that, Eastern, Christmas and Reformation Day are national holidays, celebrated by the whole country.

Besides those 3 big ones, and several smaller, we have 5 secular national holidays, New Year, May 1th ( International Worker's Day), Republic Day , Unification Day, and the only holiday with no fixed date - Inauguration day, the anniversay of day of the inauguration of the current Großkommandant, leader of all Prut.

All in all, most Prut celebrate between 8 and 10 national holidays per year, which roughly takes about 3 weeks when put together. Children don't go to school during these holidays, and no conflict is fought in that time. These are days of peace, brotherhood and friendship, a time to contemplate the important things of life, and as such are held sacrosanct by all Prut.

January 1: New Year
January 2: South Unity Day (what is now the Kalasion coastline is owned entirely by Kalasion)
February 14: St. Valentine's Day
March 17: St. Patrick's Day

Easter is celebrated, but as always, the date isn't the same every year.
April 19: St. Tricia's Day (patron saint of Kalasion (province, not country), helped unite the Dugans and Brukes)
May 11: Ocean Day (celebrates a flood during a drought in 1833)
June 8: St. Brian's Day (patron saint of Moresby (province), modern-day missionary)

July 11: Mother's Day (due to cold weather, plants are planted later on, thus mothers are often found weeding in July)
Second Saturday of September: Barbecue Day (previously a marketing stunt, became popular enough to be official)

October 29: Kalasion Revolution Day
October 31: Halloween
November 10: Father's Day (basically, leave your father alone, football's on)
First Monday of December: Labour Day

December 25: Christmas
December 27: Dugan Day
December 29: Bruke Day
December 31: New Year's Eve
No Thanksgiving. Turkey dinners are usually on St. Brian's Day (Moresby only), St. Tricia's Day (Kalasion only) and Christmas.

95% of people on NationStates won’t read this, but as we speak, Libyan people are being massacred, because they’re rebelling against an unfair government. The elderly, women, children, everyone in Libya is in danger tonight. It’s genocide. Repost this in your sig to raise awareness and support the revolution!

The staple of the feast is usually a large piece of fish.

We celebrate New Year's Day on January 1 (and New Year's Eve on December 31). April 4 is also a statewide holiday.

Other than that, there are no official holidays throughout the country, but there are relatively many vacation days that are supposed to be used to celebrate holidays. Depending on any given individual's religion and region, though, they probably won't all celebrate the same holidays, so there's no sense in standardizing them. Mother's and Father's Day aren't widely observed. Most (but not all) of those who do celebrate Thanksgiving do so on the fourth Thursday in November and eat anything from turkey to rolls. (On the other hand, the vast majority of those who celebrate Labor Day do so with political connotations, on May 1.)

Holidays in Mid Lothian:
The major religious holidays celebrated are Good Friday, Easter Monday and Christmas Day*. These are due to the majority religion being Christianity.

Other days off:
New Year's Day - January 1st*
May Day Bank Holiday - The Monday after May 1st. (Or May 1st, if that falls on a Monday.)
Spring Bank Holiday - Last Monday in May.
Summer Bank Holiday - Last Monday in August.
Foundation Day - September 8th*
St Andrew's Day - November 30th*.
Boxing Day (in honour of our heritage) - December 26th*.

These are the main holidays, in which most businesses shut down, but the individual counties can set their own holidays. There are too many to list here.

* - If any of these fall on a Saturday or Sunday, then the following Monday is the day off. (Or, if December 25th/26th are both over the weekend - like this year - then the following Monday and Tuesday are both holidays.)

Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)

As far as community holidays go, the major one among the Children is Unity Day, also called Mama's Birthday. It commemorates the end of the Psychic Wars and the day Mama appeared to us. It's a big festival where everyone dresses up, puts up decorations, and has a non-stop wild party all day.

[Mama adds: I honestly can't remember what day that was. My Children picked one that seemed reasonable, and we've run with it ever since.]

Most Children celebrate personal anniversaries as holidays with their friends, exchanging gifts and holding parties:
  • Our birthday.
  • The day we receive our angel.
  • The day we pass our Maturity tests.

Some female Children also celebrate the day they receive their first Breeding Permit, as well as marking the birthdays of their offspring.

[Mama adds: Holidays really are for my Children's benefit, not my own.]

the four primal points of the year (winter and summer solstices and vernal and autumnal equinoxes) are official holidays on which work is suspended.

there is also the week of intercallary days which encompasses the day on which is reconciled the fact that a planets orbit of its sun rarely if ever equals an exact number of rotations on its axis. as with midwinter's eve (winter solstice), these are a time of feasting, generosity, festive decorating and all that sort of thing.

there is also the first day of each month which is set aside for political consultations and religious observances.

individual beliefs each have their own holy days, but the official state days are those named above.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.
