In terms of spoken language: Arabic. Sounds terrible but it's writing system is absolutely gorgeous, more akin to a piece of art than a practical writing system (seemingly)but still.

In terms of writing: French. In general I have a strong dislike for romance languages with their various word forms and the fact that they always seem to be written backwards, but French takes the cake in this regard. Plus those silent letters are just so freaking stupid.

In terms of complexities and inconsistencies: English. It is an alphabetical system making use of only 26 characters despite the fact that they have 44 phonemes(American English). It has so many contradictions and unspoken rules an in general retardation inducing crap embedded in the whole thing. Unless you learned it as a child it can be a struggle to learn, hence why I support bilingual education. As a child I remember so many times where I would be told "Your only supposed to do this, except when you don't" . The weirdness is so horrible that I had an honest conversation a while back where I argued it may just be best for us to simply use a logographic writing system, are language has many of the characteristics that make said writing system work nicely(it is Analytical for one).

I meant sounding

also are you saying English should have a writing system more like Chinese where each syllable has it's own symbol and meaning?

Seriously, I don't know what it is with you primates and your need to have complicated language.

I despise sign language. It sounds awful and the speakers of it often use their hands too much.

Chinese is not a syllabery, the only major language that uses such a system is Japanese from what I remember. A pure Logographic system pretty much has an individual symbol for each and every morpheme which is the smallest grammatical unit in a language.

Also if you are only including sign language why do you have sign language which is technically not supposed to have sound.

Turkish is a beautiful language if you're good at speaking it smoothly. Most Turks aren't sadly.

I'd say German and Arabic.

My native language, German, manages to make "butterfly" sound harsh and brutal. Schmetterling.

Like what the fuck. "Schmettern" tends to be used in instances where you want to describe hitting something like a ball for example with a lot of force.

What the genuine fuck.

oops, that is what I meant

The sign language depends on if you like silence or not,
I personally do not like silence

I don't think Schmetterling sounds harsh and brutal at all.

That's true of most languages. It's painful to listen to English speakers when the only adjective they know is "massive".

You can also make "butterfly" sound ugly. By the way, "Schmetter" was a kind of cream, it has nothing to do with "schmettern", and can sound just as good.

big* :lol2:

I can tolerate most languages, even if I have no idea what people are saying, but when it gets to that point in time where everybody is obsessed with sign language, its annoying.

I personally love harsh languages yet still find myself learning french. I would have to say that most languages have their charms but I can't stand the sound of certain Iroquoian languages despite the fact that I love the culture and traditions.
