A Loulanese name consists of a given name, or sometimes more than one, and a surname.

Since the Persification of Loulan, many given names have been derived from traditional Persian names, with some Persianised Arabic names filtering in through cultural contact. Many names come from the Persian literature book, the Shâhnâmah or "Epic of Kings". It was composed in the 10th century by Ferdowsi and is considered by many the masterpiece of Persian literature. A few examples of names from the Shâhnâmah include Abtin, Ardashir, Armin, Arzhang, Babak, Bijan, Darab, Daryush, Esfandyar, Javid, Farhad, Farzad, and Yazdan.

Prior to 1955, the majority of Loulanese Tokharis had Chinese surnames; many adopted Persianate surnames after the Loulanese Autonomous Province was granted its autonomy. Chinese surnames are still common, with nearly half of all Tokharis having a Chinese-derived surname.

The main two are Russian and Georgian. Western naming conventions also exist. Russian names are like this: [first name] [father name] [last name].

A Faceless newborn has their full name chosen from the first two musical notes they play, which is provided when the birth doctor hands them a keyboard to use, as well as the tuning settings.

Wealthy parents will often bribe doctors to use specific keyboards, along the superstition that a child's name will determine who they grow up to be.

Most Faceless have rhyming names as a result of this, ranging from "Koli-Imoli" to "Hoxi-Moxi."

Surnames are used to refer to entire families rather than specific individuals, so if you were filling in an Andromedan application of sorts, you would fill out your name and then your family name.

NAME: Koli-Imoli
FAMILY: Awaya

In Calliana, individuals must have a surname and at least one given name. It is most common for an individual to have three given names, although individuals with with two given names are not particularly rare. Calling names tend to be, but are not necessarily the first of the given names.

After the British occupation in the late 18th Century fixed surnames began to replace the traditional patronymic pattern in which children where named after their fathers. By the 1860s fixed surnames had become all but universal, although many families maintained the patronymic names, such as Magnusson (son of Magnus), Ericsson (son of Eric), or Jonsson (son of Jon).

Examples:

Thomas Emmanuel Sander Drakenberg

Saga Miranda Elisabet Svensson

Gustav Nicolas Laxman

A first name and a last name are enough. The definitions of both are pretty lenient, though numbers are never permitted, and non-alphanumeric characters are only rarely allowed (except the dash - which is ok).

Being a country with many languages, this is just about all the rules you can make before you start infringing on the various cultures and conventions that Ko-oren has.

The French and Dutch speakers tend to register nicknames/short names as official names, leading to many people sharing a very short name that sometimes features reduplication (like Dédé, Zaza, etc). Mawryshire (western peninsula, Celtic-speaking) last names start with lowercase 'y', followed by an uppercase initial, like yMharwn and the like. The 'y' is never to be capitalised. Tarrashall (northwestern coast) use their last names so sparingly that they are rarely included. Aerellen (northeastern islands) names almost always start with a vowel, often the A, so 80% share the same initials A. A.

[Given Name] [Optional Middle Name] [Family Name]
Examples:
Male: Jakub Sokol
Female: Ilona Johana Sokolová

Female surnames are a bit complicated, they recieve a gendered suffix which varies depending on the type of word. In the above example the masculine noun "Sokol" which means falcon, becomes Sokolová making it a feminine adjective. However, under the new Marshal, gendered surnames have been discouraged as to better promote a sense of family and connection.

Vèkhuyaganyȕ (native people of Vèkhuyal) usually have 4 names:

<Clan Name> <Family Name> <First Given Name> <Second Given Name>

The clan name comes from their father, while the family name comes from their mother. Both the given names are agreed upon by both parents.

(As an aside, often during marriage, the wife takes the husband's clan name and the husband takes the wife's family name.)

[given name] [middle name (optional)] [last name]

Simple and short.

Most people are referred to by their last name unless you know them personally (referred to as 'on a first name basis') or they're your peers.

Typically in Norlisond we are given 3 names. First name, middle which depending where you are and social standing can be mother's maiden name, and family name.. This is a little different for the nobility though, who have 4 names, first, middle which often is maiden of mother or grandfather's first name, family name of father, estate name. The exception to this are the old nobility who's dynasty has existed since the 1300s, their family name is the same as estate name. Some have chosen to take a family name and some have chosen to remain this way. The Kaiser's family couple centuries ago took a family name from a royal line they married into. To this day they have chosen to keep it. Thus the current Kaiser is Erwin Killian Kilroy von Klinkowström.

In the Weimar Republic, people are usually called by their first name, and that is sometimes lead by either Herr (e.g Herr Adolph) or Frau (e.g Frau Erika) in a polite sense.

When used casually, men and women are distinguished by er and sie respectively. When used politely, however, er and sie are abandoned and replaced by a capital Sie.

Germans have three given names; a first name, an optional middle name, and a last name.
