Type B10 155mm Tow Howitzer

SPECIFICATION

LENGTH COMBAT:36 ft 2 in
TRAVEL:40 ft 6 in
WIDTH TRAVEL:9 ft 2 in
HEIGHT TRAVEL:9 ft 6 in
CREW:9
CALIBER:155 mm

MAXIMUM RANGE: 18km

The Type B10 155mm howitzer is a towed field artillery piece of a split trail carriage design. The Type B10 is equipped with a double baffle muzzle brake and a variable length hydropneumatic recoil mechanism. The Type B10 is transported trail first, with the gun suspended over a single pair of traveling wheels. While deployed forward for firing and transportation, for storage, the gun can be rotated 180 degrees.

The Type B10 has a sustained rate of tire of 4 rounds per minute. The howitzer's maximum range is 18,100m when firing standard 95-pound M107 HE and M864 DPICM projectiles, and 30,000m when firing 97-pound M549 RAP rounds. Type B10 have an on-board 1700 cc diesel engine to power the hydraulics and to assist bringing the gun into and out of action (with hand pump back-up) and to move the gun up to 20 km at low speed without towing by an artillery tractor.

The design of the Type B10 also incorporates several innovative elements. It is built with titanium alloy and aluminium alloy materials that are lightweight and yet able to withstand the recoil force of the 155 mm artillery system. Special recoil management design is also employed to reduce the recoil force to a third lower than conventional 155 mm howitzers.
