Have you read and understood the guidelines on our OP: Yes.

Your estimated GDP for a nation of your population size is very very high. With these stats, your GDP/c would be approximately 407,060. Would you mind adjusting stats a bit? :)

EDIT: I'm not certain if you mean 2002 Billion or 2.002 Billion. If the latter case is true, then your GDP/c is actually very small. I'm not sure if that's by design.

It's meant to be $2.002 billion. And yes, it's very small - I intend Itelviqq to be a hellhole of a nation constantly on the brink of collapse, only still existing because of oil money.
Add 2,000 posts or so.

The sun glared down upon Harrison’s head, doing nothing to help the 100 degree temperatures. Ever since both Bajas had been incorporated into California, the capital of the state had been moved to the more centralised location of San Diego.

“Might as well’ve stayed up in Sacramento,” he grumbled to himself, unaccustomed to the ever present heat.

“And just what are you implying about my city, Mr. Harrison?” asked Michael Wells, who had just joined Harrison on his walk to the Hotel Del Coronado. He was a San Diego native, and known for his loyalty to his city.

“You know damn well what I’m implying,” Harrison replied. After a momentary standoff, both men grinned.

“Haven’t seen you in years, mate,” Wells said. “How’s Del Norte been treating you?”

“Better than this city, at least weather-wise.” Harrison chuckled.

“Yeah, figures they’d pick the hottest week of the year to do this.” The men were silent for a few moments.

“How’s it come this far, Harrison?” Wells asked. “When I was younger, there was no city drownings, or multi-billion dollar levee projects, or decades-long Congresses and presidential tenures, or deploying troops to kill our own people…”

“You thought your time was calm?” Harrison chuckled again, this time more grimly. “I remember a time before the Novorossiyan crisis, or the Migrant crisis, or Hurricane Marco. And then there was the time of my father, before even 9/11.” Harrison felt the sting of a man far past his prime, knowing death was just around the corner.

They spent the rest of the walk in silence.

The conference room was ill fitted for the gravity of the representatives’ situation. The wood ceilings and white tablecloths washed in a warm light, the room was one of the few places he had seen that was reminiscent of the less chaotic, yet no less tense, time of the late Cold War. Altogether, it was more fitting for a convention or a wedding reception, but a technically illegal organisation had to take what it could. Harrison took his seat near the podium and projection screen. As the rest of the representatives filed in, he occasionally made passing small talk, but otherwise remained silent.

Occasionally, a passing representative would give Harrison a pitying look, before continuing on. Harrison had seen this glance innumerable times, and had come to detest it. The look said he was an old, old man, and one to be pitied. His permanently depressed expression, a relic of the effect his time stationed in Donetsk had had on him, did little to help his case.

After what seemed like only a few minutes, Governor Martinez entered the room, his face looking about as dejected as the representatives. He was flanked on either side by members of the California Revolutionary Guard. Only a few years younger than Harrison, yet appearing decades younger, he advanced to the podium. “This emergency meeting of the Californian Parliament shall come to order,” he said, his firm voice easily reaching the other side of the conference room.

After the representatives had seated, Martinez continued. “I know I’m breaking parliamentary procedure, but as stated, this is an emergency meeting. Thus, roll call, the agenda, approval of minutes, and other such niceties have been abandoned. For our safety, we must come to a vote immediately.” He slowly hung his head, a tear dripping down onto the podium. Correction, Harrison thought, He seems far more dejected than we do.

Martinez raised his head, attempting to appear calm. “The representative of Alameda County, himself representing a coalition of thirty-two other counties, has requested to speak.”

The Alamedan representative stood up from his seat. The boy appeared to be in his early twenties, and by his gaunt features and shaking hands, appeared to be afraid of his own proposal. “I-I, representing the Coalition of the Thirty-Two, move that the State of California declare independence from the United Republic of North America.” He sighed, slumping back down in his chair.

“Would anyone like to second this motion?”

Several hands rose up in the air, each less certain than the last.

“Motion seconded. Do any representatives request discussion?”

Silence.

“Apologies for skipping procedure, but let’s get to the point - all in favour of this motion?”

Slowly, deliberately, nearly everyone’s hand rose.

“All opposed?”

A single hand began rising, before its owner realised the unpopularity of his opinion, and quickly lowered.

“We’ve come to an agreement, then,” Martinez said. “We shall meet at a later date to decide the intricacies of our new nation. For now, however, this meeting is adjou-”

He became sharply silent as the doors to the conference room were kicked down.

The next few seconds were a flurry of motion, yelling, and gunshots, as clad in all black systematically killed every delegate in the room. Harrison, utterly horrified, jumped under the table in desperation.

When he heard vases and glasses being smashed as the soldiers flipped tables, he knew death had found him. Unfortunately for it, however, this understanding that his time had come gave him a newfound resilience.

When his table was flipped out from above him, he looked the soldier right in the eyes. When he seemed to show remorse for killing an old man, Harrison smiled grimly, then spit in his face.

The soldier lifted his handgun, and all was replaced with oblivion.

Hello! It must be said immediately that this is actually Phonox from the region. I'm already a member on that nation, this is an alt. Gonna drop this application here!

Nation Name: The United Kingdom of Sevase (Sevase)

Form of Government: Federal Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy

National Leader(s): Monarch: Gabriela IV - Prime Minister: Maria Campos

Population (Please remember our realism guidelines): 61,254,100 (2010 Census)

Estimated GDP: 3,033 Billion NSD

Description of National Culture:
The Sevish people are generally Spanish-speaking (I use a con-language that I base off of Spanish. The name I have for it at the moment is: Casteña.) The name Sevase originates from the 'Sevil' barbarians that conquered the region of Isperia during the second century. These Sevil invaders adopted the traditions of the peoples already there once they began to settle and the resulting mixture of cultures makes much of what Sevase is to this day, bar other developments that occurred later. While the state does not formally recognize a national religion, the majority of Sevish people are followers of Corrozcoanism. Corrozco is a polytheistic religion that originated before the Sevil barbarians. Its pantheon of gods are generally considered to be benevolent and rule over several domains such as the skies, the earth, the sun, and the moon. Modern adaptations of the religion have tended to have smaller pantheons and domains. Overall, over 20 types of Corrozco exist and are formally recognized to exist by the state.

Climate and Geography:
Generally a temperate nation, Sevase is a coastal nation with varying land features. By its coasts, temperatures can be warm, giving the impression of a tropical climate. In land though, due to rising elevations and wind patterns, temperatures can cool down to more temperate levels. Away from the coast, Sevase's topography can generally be described as a landscape dotted with mountain ranges and varying elevations. While not all of Sevase is mountainous, areas in land tend to have high elevations with the highest peak in Sevase (Chiuaticatl) reaching an elevation of approximately 4,840 meters above sea level. Cities/Settlements/Towns in Sevase that are located away from the coast often form along rivers, valleys, or more flatter lands.

National History:
Archaeological records seem to indicate that the first inhabitants of modern-day Sevase were nomadic peoples who populated the area around ten thousand years ago. Evidence of these ancient peoples includes carbon-dated stone tools and other discoveries. It was very likely, and is indicated by evidence, that most people that inhabited the area were hunter-gatherers. Evidence of settlements dates back to around 4000 BCE. This early group of city-states is commonly referred to as the Mestica Civilization. Throughout its existence, the city-states of Mestica flourished alongside each other. It was around 3000 BCE that the Corrozco religion began, with evidence of the first shrines and temples built to the deity of Corrozcoanism dating to those times.

In the year 323 BCE, Mestica was conquered by the neighbouring Gallia Empire during the height of the Empire’s expansion. Before conquest, the region was known for being unruly and difficult to subdue. Written records by Gallian officials affirm that the region inhabited by the Mesticas was to be known as Isperia. Despite its conquest, Mestica culture continued to permeate through the Isperia province and blend in with the culture of the Gallian Empire. In 26 BCE, the Gallia Empire officially named Corrozcoanism as its primary religion.

The Gallian Empire suffered in the first and second century of the common era when it began to succumb to corruption and military weakness. A lack of union started to open up the Empire to invasion from nomadic peoples that each invaded the Empire throughout the second century. In Isperia, the province was raided by nomad barbarians commonly referred to as ‘Sevils’. Along with other invading groups of people, the Sevils succeeded in invading the fractured empire and bringing it to an end in the year of 361 CE when the capital of Illorra was sacked by barbarians.

In Isperia, the invading nomads united under the invading tribal chieftain who named himself ‘King’ of the area he conquered. Although it was never named by King Refugio himself, modern historians refer to this kingdom as The Sevil Kingdom. As a leader, King Refugio conquered many small settlements in Isperia to add onto the small kingdom. King Refugio himself was known to be illiterate, as were most of the Sevil barbarians during this time. The conquered peoples of Isperia succeeded, throughout the lifetime of the kingdom, in converting the Sevil people to the Corrozco. By the time King Refugio’s son, Hermanaldigo, ascended to the position of King of the makeshift kingdom, the culture of Isperia was already beginning to blend with that of the Sevil people.

After the death of King Hermanaldigo in 463 CE, the kingdom fractured. Local rulers came to power when the central King died and each named themselves the rightful King to follow in Hermanaldigo’s position as King. The Isperia region fell into civil war between the five kingdoms during the end of the fifth century until the westernmost kingdom defeated the other kingdoms and emerged as the dominant power in the Isperia region. The Isperia region was united under the new kingdom and it continued to operate as an absolute hereditary monarchy from then on. During the centuries that followed, the original people of Isperia and the Sevil people continued to integrate together. The first usage of the demonym ‘Seviano(a)’ (Sevish, in English) dates to a formal document written by one of Queen Mariella’s personal officials in 857 CE. In this letter, the official refers to the people of the kingdom collectively as ‘Sevianos’ (Sevasians in English). The name for the people began to become popular in usage once it became difficult to distinguish differences between Isperian and Sevil culture.

During the eleventh century, discontent in the kingdom grew as the kingdom suffered widespread famines following a series of very long winters in the years of 1045 CE through 1051 CE. At the height of the struggle, revolts began appearing throughout the kingdom calling for more action from the King. In the year of 1050 CE, a wide scale revolution swept the kingdom that consisted of forces rallied by influential provincial leaders. They succeeded in dethroning King Frallo in 1051 CE, ending the hereditary rule in the kingdom. The united forces that had ousted the king quickly fell into disarray when trying to decide how to fill the vacancy in leadership. A compromise was reached in 1052 CE. Known as the Compromise of Vazquez, the leaders of each group decided that they would elect a king from amongst themselves, to rule over the fractured kingdom. As each leader had previously named themselves ‘King’, the elected King would rule over the five kingdoms in the first United Kingdom of Sevase. While, in theory, the king had ultimate power, the council of trustees (the families of the influential groups that dethroned King Frallo) now elected the monarch from their own ranks whenever the current monarch either passed away or was deemed incompetent.

Immediately following the Compromise of Vazquez, the seat of central power was moved to Puerto Royale. Under its new system, the Sevish kingdom continued to exist, though it was still faced with the challenge of dealing with an inefficient agriculture. The first elected monarch of Sevase, King Beruno, came to be known as a reformer by modern scholars. During his reign, King Beruno nationalized the system of public currency, presenting the Réale as the first unified currency of the kingdom. Taking more direct control of local provinces, King Beruno also began to enforce regulations on agriculture in the local settlements of the kingdom. The changes were met with mixed reactions from Sevish people, and soon there was a notable exodus of people from populated city-centers, forming new rural settlements that were less regulated by the monarchy of Sevase. This resulted in a further expansion of settlements into the more rural areas of Sevase. Many more modern city centers would be formed later where these settlements were founded.

Following the discovery of a rich silver vein in the mountains of Otzatacl in 1732 CE, a small trove of entrepreneurs were quick to take advantage and begin mining operations amidst an era in Sevase where regulations on mining and resource extraction were non-existent. Prompting a new economic boom, the ideologies of free trade and trade began to take hold in Sevase, giving rise to a growth in urban centers. This movement gained more traction in the early 19th century as manufacturing soon became a dominant sector in the Sevish economy. By the end of the 19th century, Sevase was considered industrialized in that a sizeable second-tier economy began appearing while the agriculture from before began to become improved and even more efficient.

In 1865, following the resignation of King Rafael VI, the normal process of succession ended in the ascension of King Guiolamino II. In Sevish monarchy, the monarch is recognized by all five kingdoms after a vote amongst representatives of each kingdom to decide who that monarch will be. The candidate from the Kingdom of Colima, Felipe Iniguez de Santa Rosa, was defeated by Guiolamino in the election process and went on to stage a coup based out of the Kingdom of Colima. Taking advantage of an economic slump within Sevase at the time, Iniguez’s militia was quick to take the nation’s forces by surprise and instituted a surrender of power to Iniguez, becoming one of the only kings in history to seize power through military force. During the reign of King Felipe III, civil freedoms in Sevase notably declined due to Felipe’s tactics at silencing opposition to his reign. However, after several years of unrest following the transition, the nation continued to function and retained some sense of normalcy despite the nationalization of media outlets and stifled civil liberties.

King Ruslan ascended to the throne in 1889 following the death of King Felipe from old age. Ruslan was chosen to succeed Felipe by Felipe himself. King Ruslan’s rule was short, ending in 1897 when he died of pneumonia. With no successor apparent, the representatives of the kingdoms of Sevase barred representatives from the Kingdom of Colima and chose Queen Magdalena II to be his successor upon the throne. One of the first acts of regency by Magdalena was establishing a democratic form of government that would co-exist alongside the monarchy. While originally met with scepticism from the aristocracy, the plan gained support with common Sevish citizens. The decision was aimed towards reducing the potential at other monarchs seizing power in a coup similar to the events of 1866. The body of public representatives initially had the power to override the decision of who to ascend to the throne, but later on went to be granted more powers until King Luis XI ceded all official power to govern, and established the constitutional monarchy and constitution that is still in effect today, in 1913.

Description of National Economy (Major sectors, development, etc.):
A developed country, Sevase is noted for its effort at trying to have a free economy, promoting capitalism in most cases. However, in practice, Sevase's economy is a Mixed Economy. Government regulations generally exist to protect consumers and became common following a period of many private-sector firm mergers that reduced competition within several industries. In modern times, Sevase has a sizable service economy with its largest industries including: finance, transportation/logistics, information technology, and retail. At the same time, Sevase has a smaller manufacturing base that includes several industries. Key industries in the manufacturing sector include pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals, electronics, and alloy production. Naturally occurring resources in Sevase are ores and rare-earth-metals. While Sevase does also have several deposits of oil, natural gas, and coal within its borders, the sizes of those deposits are not nearly enough to sustain itself, so Sevase does commonly find itself importing fossil fuels for energy production, a growing problem that national leaders have been starting to consider more and more often in policy-making.

Description of National Military (Please remember our realism guidelines): Sevase's national military is fairly advanced, though small in number. It's two branches include El Ejército de Tiera (Its army), and El Ejército de Agua (its navy). The main purpose surrounding its military is to secure the nation itself, meaning that their forces are primarily used for defense. As such, Sevase does not typically have the ready ability to project military power too far from the homeland. At the same time, a notable example of this is the fact that Sevase's armed forces employ one small-sized aircraft carrier that is mainly garrisoned with rescue helicopters for near-coast operations.

Description of Geopolitical Role: Sevase takes part in geopolitical affairs but usually as a means of some sort of civil discourse (i.e. trade agreements, economic unions, etc.). As it currently stands, Sevase has never been in a status of war with another foreign power and is often noted for being more concerned with its own internal affairs rather than involving itself militarily abroad in other nations. Historically, Sevase has been neutral in international affairs, only using its armed forces for defense.

Roleplaying Example or Link (Please provide at least three paragraphs): I will gladly provide examples and/or even write a response to a prompt if needed!

Notes and Questions: This nation would be an alt nation that has entirely nearly nothing to do with Phonox, who I already have within the region. In fact, I've structured Sevase to have very different aspects from that of Phonox. As far as other issues go, I'm very open to discussion!

What made you choose Pericles? I play Phonox at the moment, and this nation of Sevase is an alt that I’ve played for some time. I’ve noticed a general lacking of a Latin-American themed nation in Pericles, and I was hoping that Sevase might be an appropriate fit! At the moment, I’m applying with this alt-nation under the same guise as Defese/Gerlotio and Demphor/Andallion have done with their alt nations: Phonox and Sevase would not be found colluding with one another ICly. ^.^

Please list any active alts or puppets you may control: I'm Phonox from Pericles! Gasp!

Have you ever controlled a nation that was deleted for poor conduct: Nope!

Have you read and understood the guidelines on our OP: Yup yup!

Nation Name: Kingdom of Teutonia (In German: Teutonreich)

Form of Government: Constitutional Monarchy

National Leader(s):
Emperor Otto Vogt of Estonia (In German: Kaiser Otto Vogt of Estland)
Chancellor Helmut Stadtbäumer (In German: Reichskanzler Helmut Stadtbäumer)

Population (Please remember our realism guidelines): 51,000,000

Estimated GDP: 1.58 trillion USD. Roughly 31,000 per capita

Description of National Culture: A combination of traditional Baltic ethnicities along with Northern Germans. Minor Danish groups as well. Currently dealing with an emerging youth population that seriously questions the old militaristic tendencies. In this, there are emerging issues with the constitutional monarchy, a surge in the number of Socialist parties, and overall a possible slow breakdown with a neighboring nation ending in either a series of small isolated conflicts or a larger overall war.

Climate and Geography: Gunning for average North Germany/Baltic States/ Danish in overall climate. Allot of flatland filled with either open plains or forested areas. A few hilly and maybe a single mountain range. Might have access to open seas, with will have some average beaches and stuff.

National History: Not much unlike how the German unification happened, however at a certain point instead of a series of military campaigns to conquer all the Germanic people, a series of more peaceful royal marriages and some sly politics and singular blades create a united Teutonia in the early 19th century. From that point there is a period of shaky economic growth happens that blooms into a great economic expansionary period in the 1880s. It calms down after sometime in the 1910s. In the 1920s however, there is a really severe crash. It drives the nation to seek out new forms of government, as Socialist and more Capitalist parties begin pushing for a possibly toppling of the Kaiser.

While both sides wish to avoid conflict, the Kaiser and the parties strike a deal to reform the government into a constitutional monarchy. Where certain rights are held by the Kaiser, while other rights are held by the legislative body, and whatever rights not given to the government are held by the people.

In the 1940s, there is a rapid economic bloom, but it opens up into a war economy which leads Teuronia into a massive war that strains the entire nation again.

Description of National Economy (Major sectors, development, etc.): Major sectors would include industrial tools and equipment. Large manufacturing centers that import large amounts of foreign raw materials and output high-quality finished goods. A growing administrative sector, however its still a fairly small and new prospect. Agriculture, the longtime staple until the 1850s, has been encouraged to expand again by the government body in order to create independent food sources.

Description of National Military (Please remember our realism guidelines): The military is divided into three primary branches organized under the overall command of the Reichswehr:

The Teutonian Army (German: Teuton Heer) is the primary land-arm of the Reichswehr. There is an active component, and a reserve component, known as the Landeswehr, or Territorial Army. The size of the active army component is 100,000 men strong, with an additional 30,000 men in the Territorial Army. Overall, the active army is comprised of 20 brigades, ranging from motorized infantry to armored brigades supported by heavy mechanized infantry.

The Teutonian Air Force (German: Teuton Luftstreitkräfte). It is the air-arm of the Reichswehr. While it performs operations in the air, using different kinds of aircraft, it also contains the Fallschirmjäger. In all the airforce has 110 combat aircraft, mostly being fighter-sized aircraft, and a large number of transport and support aircraft. The air force is roughly 47,000 men, including the 2,500-man Fallschirm-Schützenregiment.

Finally, there is the Imperial Navy (German: Kaiserliche Marine). It consists of solely surface combatant warships, who work in tandem with ground-based naval aviation, organized under the Kaiserlichen Seeflugwesen (Imperial Naval Aviation). The surface fleet is comprised of 2 modern air-defense 140 meter warships, 4 multi-purpose anti-surface and submarine warships of 130 meter length, 4 anti-surface corvettes of less than 100 meters in length, and a number of smaller fast attack craft and other auxiliary ships.

Also, there are 4 diesel attack submarines in service. These are all modern designs, and are considered high effective at their tasks.

In terms of naval aviation, the Kaiserlichen Seeflugwesen has a number of twin and four-engined surveillance aircraft, and a single squadron of fighter-bomber aircraft intended to use anti-shipping missiles to engage and destroyer enemy surface ships.

The Navy also contains a small battalion-sized element of marine infantry, known as the Marine Stoßtrupp Abteilung. These men, historically, were a force of naval infantry designed to land in conventional invasions, however in the modern era, they have become a mostly special forces group, but retain naval-landing capabilities. They are the equivalent of MARSOC and the SEALs. The force is less than 550 men in strength while the navy itself is 14,000 men strong.

Description of Geopolitical Role: More than likely one of the 'just-another-powers' to most people not immediately around me.

Sorry for the lateness of my objection (and well do I know how late it is), but I'm voting nay against Itelviqq until such time as I can be convinced that the player's main roleplaying commitment will be to Pericles.

Nation Name: The Republic of Bisgea

Form of Government: Federal Constitutional Republic

National Leader(s): President Rodrigo Dimacuha (head of state and government)

Population (Please remember our realism guidelines): Approximately 70 million which with my GDP gives me a per capita of $3759

Estimated GDP: $263.16 billion

Description of National Culture: Bisgeans are a very conservative people which value family and respect above all. This value for family is so great that most politicians favor their families before other normal citizens, resulting in rampant corruption.

Climate and Geography: Bisgea consists of a mainland and several islands. THe mainland is filled with mountain ranges, which effectively divides the nation into several regions. Apart from these, Bisgea is also home to lush rainforests due to its tropical climate. However, a few patches of open plains also exist which is extensively used for farming.

National History: Are there any major colonial powers? If so, I'd like to be a former colony. Eventually, revolution happens and Bisgea goes independent. Fast forward a few decades and Bisgea is widely corrupt and impoverished due to corruption at virtually all levels of government with only the capital seeing much development due to centralization.

It is at this point that Rodrigo Dimacuha is elected by President. He initiates a major government overhaul starting with Constitutional Ammendments which turn Bisgea from a centralized republic into a Federal Republic and enforcement of Martial Law.

Yes, this is very basic at the moment. The reason for this being that I'll add in details later if I get accepted. I'd like to get a feel of my neighbors and come up with a history fro my nation which interconnects me with the other players of the region.

Description of National Economy (Major sectors, development, etc.): Major exports would be agricultural products, metallic ores, and wood.

Description of National Military (Please remember our realism guidelines): The Armed Forces are fairly small, with the nation keeping only 200,000 active personnel. Despite the small numbers, the Armed Forces are still underfunded and in need of a lot of equipment. They are typically used only for the defense of the nation and not for interventionist situations.

Description of Geopolitical Role: I like to think of Bisgea as a Third-rate Peer which is fairly isolationistic but has recently started to open up relations.

Roleplaying Example or Link (Please provide at least three paragraphs): Another One Bites the Dust

Notes and Questions:

What made you choose Pericles? I've decided to reenter the world of RP and by searching through application threads, I found your region. What piqued my interest is your three focuses of realism, fairness and consensus.

Please list any active alts or puppets you may control: None

Okay, I was on a lovely vacation for a long time, but now that I'm here I can finally answer our various new applications!

Kirisaki wrote:Sorry for the lateness of my objection (and well do I know how late it is), but I'm voting nay against Itelviqq until such time as I can be convinced that the player's main roleplaying commitment will be to Pericles.

Well, that settles it, then. If I'd been back at my desk, then perhaps this would have flown under the radar, but since I was out, I'm afraid that this sneaks by and is upheld. Sorry, Quantalis. Get in touch with Kirisaki and see if you two can reach a compromise.

Aurinsula wrote:So, Yalos.

I want to ask you, in all seriousness - is this something you want to do?

I re-iterate my question. After we had our chat on the IRC, I want to make sure that you, yourself, want to get involved in this right now during a very transitional period in your life. If you do, then we'll talk more and I'll start your clock, but if you'd rather focus on what's going on around you - as I personally feel you should - then we'll go our separate ways.

Sevase wrote:Hello! It must be said immediately that this is actually Phonox from the region. I'm already a member on that nation, this is an alt. Gonna drop this application here!

I think we all quite obviously agree that this nation is excellently written and would make a fantastic addition to the region; it's just the philosophical question of whether we want to start having second nations - which, for the record, is something that I want to do.

Nation Name: The Republic of Segland [sometimes referred to as the (Neo-) Seglandic Empire]
Form of Government: Authoritarian single-party state
National Leader(s): Chancellor Heinrich Mueller
Population (Please remember our realism guidelines): 95,000,000
Estimated GDP: ~$1,500,000,000,000
Description of National Culture: The Seglandic society is a socially conservative one, holding views that might be considered dated or cruel to other nations. Groups such as homosexuals, women, and non-whites are persecuted even with the official illegalization of discrimination. As for religion, Seglanders are largely atheistic.
Climate and Geography: A major mountain range gives way to rolling hills and gentle plains that cover the majority of the nation's geography. The climate is warm and dry in the summer and cool in the winter.
National History: The Seglandic nation as we know it was unified in 1884 by Adrianus dae Farheim, who was then declared monarch of the fledgling Seglandic Empire. The new empire, its people gripped by a patriotic fervor, engaged in a number of wars and territorial conquests from the late 1880s to the early 1900s. Adrianus was assassinated in the streets of Ryutsvaag in 1909, shocking the populace and soon leading to a civil war as generals and politicians vied for control of the realm. The war would, unbeknownst to the people of the time, turn into one of the most prolonged continuous conflicts in history. A tenuous peace was reached in 1949 and was followed by several weak administrations. It is in this environment that the National Socialists were able to seize power.
A new ideology, none other than National Socialism, grew in popularity, feeding on the widespread discontent of the people. Several different political parties espoused this ideology, but the particular brand that came out on top was the Seglandic People's National Socialist Party, headed by the charismatic Hugo Nimitz. Nimitz rapidly rose from a political nobody to a highly influential individual, with his SPNSP rivaling the two establishment parties. In 1964, he was elected to the Chancery and began to reform the government into the Republic of today.
Description of National Economy (Major sectors, development, etc.): The economy of Segland is rather volatile, being a mix of the old state-controlled industrial base and the capitalistic system that is sure to overtake it in the future. Natsoc planners are wary of embracing free-market capitalism since it would discourage the government from the arbitrary interventions to which they are accustomed. It is impossible to be sure when the economic situation will level out.
Description of National Military (Please remember our realism guidelines): The Seglandic military has a total of 300,000 active troops with a reserve force of 200,000. Its technology largely consists of dated weapons and vehicles from the 70s and 80s, although there have been several recent attempts at modernization. The Seglandic Air Force is considered by many experts to be the most effective branch.
Description of Geopolitical Role: I imagine it will be more or less the same role I played in Aeneas before the civil war (which I have decided to do away with in favor of continuing my fascist storyline).
Roleplaying Example or Link (Please provide at least three paragraphs): All Red Inside
The Tressian War
The Ramsey Doctrine
Notes and Questions: I look forward to hopefully adding some totalitarian fun to Pericles!

What made you choose Pericles? It is the immediate successor to Aeneas.
Please list any active alts or puppets you may control: None.
Have you ever controlled a nation that was deleted for poor conduct: Nope.
Have you read and understood the guidelines on our OP: Indeed I have.

There are no objections for Teutonia or Bisgaea, so I will send them the password right away.

I, however, am a bit concerned about Segland. We have now had... four occassions, I believe, or five, when he has appeared and told us he would participate - and then hasn't at all, or so minimally as to be not worth it.

Segland, are you actually in this to win this?

All I can say to that is that if I truly believed I couldn't fulfill my obligations to the region, I wouldn't have bothered following you all here and applying. Yes, I entered Aurora as Visaire and participated minimally, but my time in Aeneas was fundamentally different. Even though by most metrics I wasn't one of the region's major players, I contributed nevertheless. I admit that I have no better reason for my fade into obscurity at that point than personal negligence.

I recognize your concerns about admitting me. They are valid, and the only consolation I can offer is my word that the failures of the past will not repeat themselves.

Population (Please remember our realism guidelines): ~ 7,500,000
Estimated GDP: ~ 450 billion, ~ 60,000 per capita

Description of National Culture: a Latin nation who nonetheless considers itself part of and is culturally close to the Germanic or central "European" world. The language spoken by its population, Insubric – named after the region the country covers; the country itself is named after the capital – would sound to an outsider like a hybrid between Italian and French but, for example, the country's Catholic faith has been influenced by the borderline Calvinist teachings of Jansenius, and its traditional cuisine has much in common with those of Austria and Switzerland.

The country's politics used to be dominated by the centre-right alliance between Liberal Democrats, Insubrian Right, Insubrian Catholics and Liberal and Libertarian Insubria. However, a recent economic crisis has taken the coalition between Insubrian Socialists and Insubrian Communists to power for the first time ever, the two parties having previously been influential only in the sprawling suburbs of the capital.

Environmental degradation and xenophobia (caused by waves of immigration too big for such a small country) are two of the state's main problems.

Climate and Geography: ever since ancient times, the region over which the Community of Liberty exerts its sovereignty – whose western, southern and eastern borders are marked by rivers, while the northern border is a mountain range – has been a highly urbanized one, owing to the fertile plain that makes up its southern half. The northern half of the country is largely hilly and mountainous, and not as densely populated as the southern one; it is known for its lakes.

The whole country covers slightly less than 20,000 square kilometres but, if it were to obtain all of its territorial claims, its surface would more than double, and the state would also obtain a small coastline. Territorial expansion is, however, not a high priority in anyone's political agenda, aside from the far right.

The climate is either continental or alpine throughout the country, depending on elevation.

National History: the Community of Liberty of Megelan was born in 1535, when the last descendant of the dynasty that had ruled the city and the surrounding region since the late 13th century died without a legitimate heir. In order to survive, the republic had to part with most of the land it had gained over the previous centuries, and accept the suzerainty of a series of foreign powers.

In the 19th century, the country freed itself from foreign influence, owing to a series of revolts and revolutions that weakened its neighbours; the aristocratic republic of old became a federal one soon after, and the urban aristocracy, that had previously dominated local politics, lost most of its power in the following decades, unable to counter the rise of the capitalist bourgeoisie; some of the descendants of the patriciate have however reinvented themselves as businessmen and industrialists.

Description of National Economy (Major sectors, development, etc.): the capital is a major center of commerce and finance; industry is dominated by enterprises of small and medium size; agriculture and farming are dominant in the far north and far south of the country. State-owned companies are common, managing basic infrastructure and providing basic services, but privately owned companies are prevalent.

Description of National Military (Please remember our realism guidelines): an active personnel of ~ 150,000 people; the Army is by far the biggest branch of the military, and is well equipped and well trained. Most of the military is made up by conscripts, both male and female – a few years ago, conscription was extended to women – aged 19 to 34.

Description of Geopolitical Role: a "Brilliant Isle", but one that is more similar to a flat Switzerland with a Milan/Paris equivalent for capital than an oil emirate or Hong Kong. The state follows a policy of armed neutrality in most matters except for those of humanitarian and peace-building nature.

Roleplaying Example or Link (Please provide at least three paragraphs): I was about to "steal" the writing prompt Aurinsula gave Osterrland but, if you guys want to give me another one instead, that's fine with me.

Notes and Questions: None.
What made you choose Pericles? Most other regions seem to be full of totalitarian star empires or sentient ponies.
Please list any active alts or puppets you may control: None.
Have you ever controlled a nation that was deleted for poor conduct: No.
Have you read and understood the guidelines on our OP: Yes.

I find the idea of a well trained and well equipped conscript force unlikely, pretty much impossible, really.

And before you say "Switzerland", whom you are obviously emulating here. The Swiss military is not well funded, nor is it well trained.
