Drones/UAVs in your nation

Postby Pavonistade » Sat Aug 22, 2015 8:34 pm

What is the status of drones or unmanned aerial vehicles in your nation?
The use of drones/UAVs in Pavonistade is increasing but so is controversy surrounding them. Legislation regarding UAVs are novice and continue to be developed, but generally autonomous UAVs are unregulated while remote-controlled UAVs are more-regulated. As in other countries, UAVs can serve many different purposes in Pavonistade, such as engaging in drone journalism, search & rescue, and delivery of various goods. Concerns, mostly concentrating on privacy, have also been raised on UAVs and conflict over the vehicles can be noted more easily over the course of time.

Drones are used by the Tolmakian Government (the military and police, intelligence agencies, environmental agencies, space agencies) and some private groups. Citizens can have their own unarmed drones and UAVs, but only with a licence. Autonomous UAVs are only operated by the military.

AIs that want to do any physical work almost uniformly control drones and UAVs, with a few exceptions that like to hack machinery instead. Both civilian and military UAVs are common.

In Allanea drones are frequently used by both the government and private entities, both for military purposes and for civilian ones - anything from mapping to pizza delivery.

The police force uses drones to openly spy on citizens to make sure they aren't committing crimes or slacking off while working. The military uses drones and UAV's against our enemies. Citizens are also allowed to use drones, but for commercial and recreational use only, by filling out a form, showing they are mentally capable of using one. By doing that, if they kill someone with their drone, we can punish them harshly, because they were proven to be mentally capable of using one. Someone with out a drone permit, or a member of the police/military are sent to jail or fined. There are also many-many places, where people cannot fly their drones.

Drones are used by Kyrulian Armed Forces for reconnaissance missions and by police for aerial patrol and search and rescue missions.

Additionally, drones are becoming increasing popular among civilians who enjoy using them largely for aerial photography. However, several restrictions apply to personally owned drones. They cannot be flown over private property without the owner's permission, they can't be flown over nuclear power plants, government buildings, military installations, airports, or national parks. Additionally, some prefectures have additional laws and regulations pertaining to private drone use.

We have them and we use them. Usage of them for military reasons is strictly prohibited by law, as is usage of them for surveillance (unless posted publicly, so like if an area has a sign "This area monitored by drones", it's okay, but just spying isn't)

Civilian usage is limited to remote control drones and requires a license.

The use of drones is common in New Hayesalia due to their effectiveness, their ease of use, and flexibility. They are often used in commercial and scientific roles, with operators requiring certification (provided by Government at minimal price.)

One of 2009's National Sustainability Projects was the development of the National Matternet System to enhance the effectiveness of the NH Post Service. They are rigged to fly automatically at set routes and heights within cities (using a number of telephone-pole style battery swap stations on the way for long trips) automatically taking into account restricted areas, threats and bad weather.

The drones generally carry letters and small parcels which are dropped at specific post locations for pickup or final delivery. In this way, a delivery of express post from an aircraft which would have required dozens of trucks to deliver in the past is now limited to the delivery of large and special goods by vehicles, with a fleet of drones dropping letters and post to hundreds of post offices in the local area for local posties to deliver.

Of course, the NH Military is also a heavy user of drones, with the NHAF particularly leading the charge in the development of UCAV technologies.

We make extensive use of drones for a wide variety of uses. Such as small package delivery , weather observation, mapping, surveillance, and the military uses drones as remote weapons platforms.

Drones of all sorts are commonplace and widely used throughout the Imperium. The proper term in Sidh vernacular is "bot", "drone" being strictly a term for a UAV. Ground-based autonomous platforms are always referred to as bots.

The term "-bot" or "-drone" is usually used in conjunction with a term descriptive of it's function, for example, agri-bot or servo-drone, indicating an agricultural bot and repair/maintenance drone respectively.

Civil uses range from public surveillance by law enforcement, to parcel deliveries, monitoring of various sorts (such as agriculture, structural integrity, etc.), maintenance and repair in dangerous and difficult-to-reach places, various work involving hazardous materials and/or dangerous environment.

Military also uses drones and bots extensively, albeit not quite as extensively as humans - Sidhae are too paranoid to entrust too much important tasks to machines which can be disabled, hacked or taken control of by a self-aware AI. The most common tasks assigned to autonomous platforms are usually ones deemed too long and boring for Sidh operators to comfortably handle, such as surveillance of an area, sentry duty, etc. Bots and drones are often deployed on ambushes, particularly when retreating, so the enemy can expect nasty surprises even in territory cleared of Sidh presence. From single-use spider mines to the mighty Hunter-Killer bots that rival heavy tanks and mechwalkers in size and power, these machines are bound to cause much annoyance to whoever finds them deployed on his turf.

One of the most feared weapons in Sidh arsenal is a relatively recent addition, the Scarab swarm drone. Roughly the size and form of a scarab beetle, the Scarab drone is deployed in massive swarms of tens or hundreds of thousands, capable of squeezing into enemy vehicles and armor through the tiniest gaps, a swarm able to strip the flesh off a man's bones in seconds. This and other, larger types of swarm drones are typically deployed for area denial, being too numerous to be susceptible to most conventional weapons. Furthermore, drone swarms are effective at disabling most aerospace engines by clogging or short-circuiting them, and shielding targets from most projectiles and energy weapons by forming a physical barrier between them and the target, a useful feature in atmospheric conditions where the power consumption required to deploy an energy shield is prohibitively high.

Drones are commonly used by the government for military-related missions. They are used for reconnaissance, attack, and defense missions. They are also able to be owned and operated by civilians, however laws prevent the use of drones to invade privacy. Violations of these laws are applicable to a drivers license. They may also be used for law enforcement purposes with a court order.

Once the drone hysteria of the early 21st century calmed down, unmanned aerial vehicles became very common. They are used for many things: scouting; firefighting; disaster control and relief; weather reporting; and just about anything requiring a mobile camera feed. Government drones usually exist in dedicated Drone Towers, which often hold upwards of 4,000 drones at a time. The majority of these are designed as multi-mission, though by far the most common usages are firefighting and disaster control where the drones are useful for both combating the disaster as well as locating citizens in peril. Most are therefore equipped with fire extinguishers and cameras.

Private citizen usage of drones is also common, though invasions of the privacy of another citizen may be shot down by said citizen. The usage of drones requires a license, which will be revoked if they are used for illegal purposes. Civilian drones should also not attempt to assist firefighting and disaster control efforts, as they tend to be more of a nuisance than a help.

Drones usage Air Force policy 214-31b: the divulgence of drones not known to public shall be dealt with by military tribunal ending in death or permanent work camp incarceration.

Policy 214-31c: any usage of drones is conducted with common drone types available to the world specific mission requirements to drones are added prior to mission start.

The police and military have a few. Civilians need a license and cannot put weapons on their drones, nor film on nudist beaches, military areas, or parts of nature reserves that might be damaged by a drone if it crashes.

The Gallan military has extensive experience and knowledge about operating drone aircraft, from light UAVs to fighter-sized, jet powered combat drones.

http://iiwiki.com/wiki/Equipment_of_the ... d_Vehicles

Drones for civilian use are tightly regulated by the Gallan Air Ministry, which prohibits their use in large, built-in areas, near airports, and the drone must remain within a ceiling altitude of 200, 500, or 1,200 meters depending on the UAV class and operator's licence. Pilot's licences are not required for either commercial or recreational use of robotic aircraft, however they do require a remote operator licence which is somewhat less stringent and mostly consists of a test of knowledge of aviation laws, fundamental aerodynamics and aeronautics, and requires the potential operator to pass a background check.

There are currently three "tiers" of drone operator licence, commercial, private, and recreational. The differences between commercial and private are few, most notably that private pilots cannot contract their services for payment and cannot fly drones at night (however, they can choose to undertake training for nighttime operation, unlike recreational operators), while recreational drone operators are subject to significant restrictions on the size of the aircraft they can pilot, maximum ceiling, line-of-sight requirements, and are only allowed to operate aircraft during daylight hours.

Prior air flight experience is not required, but drone operators must retake a similar test every two years to renew their licence. The drone must be registered with the Air Ministry and made available for inspection when requested to ensure its air worthiness.

Drones/UAVs/UCAVs are mostly used by the military and the police. Commercial UAVs are not very popular nowadays, as they were replaced by intelligent/sapient droids.

Everywhere you go, there's a police droid patrolling the area, keeping citizend safe from crime.

A law was passed that forbids police from using drones to violate the privacy of citizens without permission of their superior officers.
