The Ross Isles is one of the few countries with a unicameral Westminster system. The House of Assembly has 100 seats and the composition of seats has looked as in the image above since the conclusion of the 2019 General Election. To the right of the speaker, you can see that the National Party (black) have the largest amount of seats, with 44, and are the senior partner in a coalition government. The Liberal Party (blue) are their junior partner in the governing coalition and have 19 seats. Over on the opposition benches, the Social Democratic Party (red) have 22 seats and are the official opposition. The Neuhannoversche Volkspartei (gold) are the smallest party represented in the House of Assembly, with 15 seats.

Elections are held every 4 years to elect the President, House of Representatives and the Senate. We use the MMP (Mixed Member Proportional) system to elect our parties. Additionally, referendums may also be held at any time.

Grey: The Meritocratic Unity Party of the Federation of Lillorainen.

Now, since the parliament diagram of a unity-party state isn't awfully exciting, here the diagram of the Constituent National Assembly, the predecessor of the MC and the Chamber of States, immediately prior to the official founding of the Federation in March 9, 1981:

Image

Blue: National Meritocratic Union, led by Siegfried Heiderich (who also became Lillorainen's first Federal President).
Reddish/Pink: Lillorainian Workers' Union, led by Arnulf Rivenich.
Green: Regionalist Party, led by Lykke Estrup (it was not a green politics party - the color green was chosen due to its 'Rhenish' heraldic meaning).
Brown: Front for a Populist Lillorainen, led by Ingo Stael.
Yellow: Lillorainian Freedom Coalition, led by Bente Ahrens.
Black: Nordic Federalist Union, led by Marie Seelscheid (who became President in 1989 and got assassinated in office in 1994).
Blue: Technocratic Union, led by Bernd Sandholm.

These seven parties formed a national unity government, governing as one coalition. With a majority of 279/308, the Members of the National Assembly voted for a merge into one party under Heiderich's leadership, forming the Meritocratic Unity Party and founding the Meritocratic Council as well as the Chamber of States.

The Government of Coconut Palm Island

The government is made of three branches, the most powerful of which is the unicameral legislative branch. The Senate is the Island's only national legislative body, made up of 30 members plus the Monarch. In addition to being the chair of the Senate, the Monarch can also break ties in the Senate and preside over Senate business (in the Monarch's absence, the Senate President takes the chair).

The Monarch is selected by the Senate. The Senate can remove and replace the Monarch at any time, by 3/4 majority (23 of 30 members). The Senate is elected via a proportional representation system in which people vote for people in the partisan primaries and parties in the general elections. No "districts" exist. The Senate also appoints a Royal Court of 5 members, to strike unconstitutional laws.

The Monarch can issue "Royal Decrees", which deal with most day-to-day, nonpartisan, or emergency issues. While Royal Decrees have full force of law, they can be repealed by the Senate with a simple majority vote. More powerful than Royal Decrees are laws. Laws are passed by a majority in the Senate plus the Monarch's approval; however, Royal Veto can be overridden with a 2/3 majority. The Royal Court strikes down any Royal Decrees that are not consistent with existing legislation; it also strikes down any Royal Decrees or laws that contradict the Royal Charter.

Imperial Council

AA National Liberation Party (10)
AA Nationalist Republican Party (10)
AA Christian Democratic Party (10)
AA Appointed Seats (10)

The Imperial Council is not elected by the people, but is instead appointed completely by the emperor. The Emperor, although not legally obliged to do so, allows each political party in the country to nominate 10 delegates to the council, with the rest of the council made up of people appointed directly by himself. The Emperor has specified that no matter how many seats the political parties take up, his appointed councilors will match them in number, meaning that in theory, if every seat in the Chamber of Representatives was occupied by a different party, the Imperial Council would have 1200 politicians and 1200 Imperial appointments, for a total of 2400.
Currently the Imperial appointments are made up of members of the Imperial House of Ureña, lawyers and important business people in the nation.

Chamber of Representatives
Image

AA National Liberation Party (52)
AA Nationalist Republican Party (21)
AA Christian Democratic Party (47)

As per the 1990 constitution, the Chamber of Representatives is capped at 120. Representatives are elected via a proportional system. Parties must publish a list of proposed Representatives 6 months before the election, and with no constituencies, all people simply vote for a party at the ballot box. The seats are then assigned to the parties based on the percentage of the vote they received.
For the last 26 years, the government has been a coalition between the National Liberation Party and Nationalist Republican Party.

The National Liberation Party is a center-left social democratic party.
The Nationalist Republican Party is a centrist liberal party.
The Christian Democratic Party is a right wing catholic conservative party.

There is currently only one other party with a chance of gaining a seat in the Chamber of Representatives, and that is the
Catholic Brotherhood, which is a extreme-right catholic party, with close ties to the Mexican National Synarchist Union.
