The alternatives were FGM-172 SRAW and a large, rocket powered rifle grenade about half the length of an M16.

The latter has escaped my imagebox. It's probably on Tanknet.

Interesting. So another weaponry fad of the 80's was 'how can we let every rifleman also shoot explosives?' Was this before UBGL's became so commonplace?

I knew that much, because having a sap carry around a M79 as well as a M16 was cruel, and silly.
Did they think that this wasn't enough? I suppose depending on when in the 80's, the Ruskies were still the #1 threat. I can chalk most of the crazy ideas that came out of the woodwork in that decade was because of ebil commies still.

RAW was different and a decade (at least) before MIPM.

I want to say it was Mecar RAAM but I can't be sure.

RAW was something else, probably a development of the USMC's fighting Hue City during Vietnam. AFAIK it was built in the mid-70s and issued before MIPM ever got rolling, was considered a failure, and MIPM happened after it.

40mm grenade launchers were established decades before MIPM in the '60s, they replaced rifle grenades and 2" mortars in the infantry section/platoon. RAW, SRAW, Scorpion, etc. were all intended to blow holes in concrete walls and destroy smaller urban strongpoints, bunkers, and BMPs.

It was really just an outgrowth of the 1980's solution to urban combat: "raze it".

AFAIK only the K31 and its family are the only rifles to utilize chargers of its type.

Mind you, its intended to be used with a specific type of loading mechanism, it wont load the magazine specifically as is. The design is intended for a specific type of ejection port.

It was like Komar, it shot a rocket assisted thing.

Aside from unusual rocket assisted rounds that might be found in recoilless rifles, launchers tend to do this regardless.

If the Kord is a lot lighter then the M2, does that make it better?

What are some good points to keep in mind while designing a rifle for a climate that ranges from -30 to about 80 degrees Fahrenheit on average.

The difference between the two in age is considerable and Im trying to find out if the M2 is obsolete, as a thing mounted on tanks.

For soldiers deployed to a remote outpost in an area with little to no hostile activity, would it be reasonable to have them fish/hunt and collect wild fruits and berries to supplement and extend the longevity of their rations?
