For want of heavy equipment the platoons FOs could direct no HMGs.
For want of HMGs, the Archians had to rely on shitty fucking microcalibers.
For want of real weapons, they lost the war.

FG-42 has a weird offset balance. Ergonomically besides that it's v nice. Still waiting to shoot one but hey, can't win em all.
I don't really see the purpose in modernizing a lot of WWII era designs. Few of them can really hold the test of time; the FG-42 might be one of these, but its modifications would need to be extensive and plentiful.
Swizerlund modernized the FG-42 (but not their voting policy or childcare, apparently) in the 50s and 60s actually as a prototype assault rifle. It obviously lost to the better SiG STG-510 and such but was still an interesting effort.

Additional hilarity can be provided from the fact that Saiga-12 magazines start at $30. I doubt very much you will be able to make a Jackhammer magazine for under $100.

The SPAS-12 is kind of a shitty shotgun, but people still buy them because #JurassicPark.
Desert Eagles are also blatantly retarded, but people get them because it's not a tumah.

I held one of those new-production FG42s in 7.92x57mm IS just yesterday. I could probably get you behind it if you visited. Anyway, I handle it with an empty mag, but man it was heavy. Comparing it to other 7.92x57mm IS rifles of the time, though, that held only a fourth or half as much ammo, it wasn't too bad (and I'm sure that weight was needed in full-auto). It was a second generation with the wood buttstock and standard angle pistol grip. What intrigued me the most is that the SCAR rifles apparently stole their iron sights quite blatantly from the FG42.

Did the Airborne have FG-42s in Crete?

Production on the SPAS-12 ended 15 years ago. Doesn't sound like a very profitable design to me.Desert Eagles are also blatantly retarded, but people get them because it's not a tumah.
They're also used for a variety of shooting sports like metal silhoette shooting and pistol hunting [just like the S&W 500]. There's also few competing .50AE pistols.
Jackhammer does at best exactly the same thing as Saiga, while weighing far more and costing twice as much.
