Spreewerke wrote:People will buy something that is not objectively the best if their subjective reasons for purchase justify it. Why do people buy Garands?

Because they are objectively the best [citation needed]. Patton said so.

Your list does include some cheap alternatives, though, which seems a bit contradictory to the whole "people will pay more for something that isn't necessarily the best if they have other reasons for justifying it." Mosins aren't the best (Forgive me Sergei), but they are cheap, and they can fulfill their intended function well enough. Same for steel-cased ammo and skimping on tips and buying clothes that aren't name brand.

While rethinking about my ww2 army equipment, I was looking over my MGs and:
How easy could you "rebuild" a MG to use belt instead of beeing magazine fed? And how reasonable is it?^^
Particulary this model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_24/29_light_machine_gun

edit: I think currently about building a second model for beeing used on a tripod and beeing belt fed, compared to the magazine-fed bipod variant for the infantry section. Or just using the belt version for both...

It should be doable for the FM24/29. Its not an easy job even when its possible but it shouldn't be too difficult.
