Do moms in your country breastfeed? How long?

Postby Venetoland » Wed Jan 20, 2010 7:18 pm

Venetoes are almost universally breastfed, usually for AT LEAST 2 years, though 4 or 5 is not uncommon.

We don't really care. Formula is sold, but most breastfeed.

Seeing as the vast majority of the population is Xanthaiist, breastfeeding is not just common but seen as the only option available. Formula is of course available for the minority that doesn't breastfeed.

Freimen children are breastfed by wolverines until the age of ten; making them the toughest children in the world.

Breast-feeding one's baby in Toussillon is encouraged and that is usually how an infant is fed until about 2.5-3 years of age. Formula is available in our nation but it is an uncommon form of feeding.

Yes, most are breastfed, however, we don't care how long the babies breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is nearly universal among our people due to our religious prohibitions against milk and dairy products. This has led to a widespread "cottage industry" in wet-nursing, for those situations where a Kawaiian mother is unable to feed her own children. It's a fairly well-organized business, set up and run by Kawaiian women for each other.

It's one of the odd quirks of Kawaiian culture that, because this is considered "women's work" (obviously), and our society is so extremely sex-segregated, most Kawaiian men are nearly unaware that this industry even exists, let alone how widespread it is.

The topic is typically avoided. There is a large poor population that breastfeeds simply because it is less expensive. However, to do so in public is considered public nudity, and punishable by death.

To speak of such in public is considered first level lewd behavior, and is punishable by a fine of a minimum of 50 Shards, and a maximum of 500 Shards. (OOC: Which equates to about twice as many dollars. And that's dollars back before dollars sucked, by the way.)

Failure to pay fines is, of course, punished by death.

Jankenjin aren't mammalian, so this question doesn't really apply to us.

That said, our mothers do "nurse" their children, after a fashion. It involves pre-chewed food, and most humans seem to think it's kind of gross, so we'll spare you the details.

We don't have many cows in Fatatatutti, though we are fond of cheese, so there's little alternative to breastfeeding. Fatatatutian mothers breastfeed for 10 to 20 minutes. Then the baby usually goes to sleep. After a few hours, they breastfeed again.

Krytanian mothers breastfeed their children typically for 4 or 5 years, even if they have more children during this time. Doing so in public is not considered indecent, and many establishments and public parks have areas designated for this purpose.

Formula is not sold, and breastfeeding is by law necessary. Formula is not nearly as healthy, and the children do not get sufficient nutrients from their parents. For those few who cannot breastfeed for whatever reason, can get prescriptions for what could be called formula, but is really just powdered breast milk that has been donated for such a cause. As for time, it's promoted until age 2.
