Zardainia follows British rules - the government can hold an election whenever it chooses up to five years after the last one. The new government comes into power the next day.

Ofitsialʹnye Sovmestnoe kommyunike Upravleniya vneshnih interesov i dyeyatelʹnosti i Upravlenie po voprosam informatsii

Dear People of the World
Our populace rarely gets the chance to vote as most of it is done by the Members of the Party. The Supreme Director is in power for life, but the other Directors are re-elected at the Supreme Congresses of the Party (Верховный съездов партии - Verhovnyĭ sʺezdov partii) which happen once every ten years and lasts for five days - our most recent Supreme Congress was the Nineteenth Supreme Congress of the Party (Девятнадцатая Верховный съезд партии - Devyatnadtsataya Verhovnyĭ sʺezd partii) , where our current Supreme Director was elected to his present office after the death of his predecessor, who was the Twelfth Supreme Director (Двенадцатый Верховный директор - Dvenadtsatyĭ Verhovnyĭ direktor), so our current Supreme Director is the Thirteenth Supreme Director (Тринадцатый Верховный директор - Trinadtsatyĭ Verhovnyĭ direktor), the next Supreme Congress will be the Twentieth (Верховный Двадцатый съезд партии - Verhovnyĭ Dvadtsatyĭ sʺezd partii) where we will hold new Elections (Выборы - Vybory) for Directors

If a Director dies, new elections are held for a replacement - but only members of the Party and Central Committee can stand for the position and vote in elections - slaves (fattened or otherwise) cannot, nor can the people until they join the Party

When a new Director has been voted into office, he takes Office from the following Monday (known as Seating Day - Гостиная дня - Gostinaya dnya), where he is invested into his new office. If a Supreme Director has been elected or has succeeded his father (the role is hereditary), there is an Inauguration Day (День инаугурации - Denʹ inauguratsii) where he is Inaugurated, normally on the 26 April. Any Directors elected at Party Congresses are also Inaugurated on this day (Congresses are normally held on dates surrounding 26 March so they get exactly a month to prepare for their new role)

Yours
the Directorfor Foreign Interests and Activites
Mr Ivan Karnov
and
The Director for Information
Mr Marcel Mose

Elections take place every 4 years, on a date chosen by the Prime Minister at the time (between January and April of election year). On election day, Delegates, Representatives and the Prime Minister are all elected. In the event a Prime Minister is not chosen (with over 50% of vote) first round, the second round takes place a month later. Inaugurations always take place in the first week of June, on a date chosen by the Electoral Commission. Parliament is opened by the Supreme Judge, all Delegates and Representatives are sworn in and then - on the steps of the Parliament Building - the Prime Minister takes office.

Until January 2010, elections were carried out each 5 years. Election day was in mid-January and inauguration was held on February 22. On January 28, 2010 was, however, instead of a first round of the election, current leader, Nenad Pivas, declared President for life on the free referendum, where 84% of population said it wishes so. The same practice will be used when the leader dies.

There is no certain day for elections to be held in ML, as long as it's held no later than 5 years +28 days (for campaigning, should parliament expire, which has never happened) after the previous election. However, they're usually held on the first Friday in April*, with the leader of the winning kissing hands** with the monarch the following Monday. Then the new Parliament meets for the first time the Monday after that.

* - Although, if it's Good Friday (as it was this year), election day is the following Friday.
** - They don't *actually* kiss hands anymore, although this previously did happen.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)

At the federal level, elections for Prime Minister happen either at most every four years, if Parliament calls a vote of no confidence, or if the citizenry demand a re-election via referendum. The Prime Minister is usually inaugurated three days after election day.

Parliament closes either when the President requests the King to close it, if a majority votes no confidence in the government or if five years has passed since the last election. Either way, there is a month of campaigning before the election. After the election, the new government seats immediately.

  • The population is circa 500 million
  • It is an imperial federation
  • The term Dungeyland while only technically referring to one colony can be used for the entire Empire (think Holland)
  • The Dangish Empire is a constitutional monarchy, our monarch is Queen Ellen I

In the Glorious British State we have no elections. There is only one leader, the great man David Cameron, and only one party, the glorious Conservative Party!
