What are some popular conspiracy theories in your nation?

Postby Insanica » Wed Mar 18, 2015 4:47 pm

For example, a 2029 study showed that 16% of all Insanicans believe that the 2015 Mars landing was faked, or at least fudged. 5% believe that images of Titan and/or Pluto have been edited by INOSA (Insanica's space agency) to cover something up, and 1.6% believe that the president is a shapeshifting alien from Mercury and/or Alpha Centauri.

So, what are some conspiracy theories in your nation?

I'll go ahead and kick this off, as this idea seems interesting.

In Kuzalesum, the political majority Dynorite party is believed to be descendants of an ancient order called the order of the black cross, which was a once crusader and later secret elitist group. The Black Cross is known for "pulling strings" throughout history, which leaves citizens to believe the potential for their affiliation with the Dynorite party. The party leader, Obmen Zusko is a member of the Zusko family, which once was affiliated with the black cross, and is a descendant of Marlim Zusko whom was once the leader of The Black Cross.

Well, you see, this nation exists in NationStates.

NationStates is a nation simulation game.

"Game" has four letters in it.

If you are a bully who makes fun of kids with glasses, you may call them "four eyes".

Glasses are made of metal OR plastic along with the glass.

"OR" has two letters in it.

Two times two, two plus two, and two to the power of two are all four.

The number between two and four is three.

Triangles have three sides and three angles.

So, our entire nation is connected to triangles...

Some believe Lieutenant Huang, a leader of the 1983 coup and the only one of five to survive execution in 1996, is hiding in a neighboring country and will come back to take the Empire over on December 31, 2018, 35 years after the original coup. Of course, Lieutenant Huang, if alive, would be 79 in 2018 and already was in frail health in 1995.

Area 69 is a highly protected and top secret government research facility in the middle of the Bone County Desert in San Andreas. The secrecy of the facility has attracted tons of alleged UFO and extraterrestrial sightings and conspiracy theories.

There are two general persistent conspiracy theories in the Imperial Dominion. The most popular one, believed by 9% of the population, is that the first Emperor of the Empire is still alive despite 1324 years having passed since he created the Empire. The theory claims that Imperial Dominion's scientists had discovered the secret to making one immortal with no drawbacks and that the Emperor at the time, Xinkc Mourningway, was their test subject. Since the implications of a society becoming immortal was disturbing, the conspiracies generally claim that the legendary first Emperor had them silenced and all knowledge destroyed of the events. This class of theories then finish by saying that he uses his now immense power to protect the Empire from the shadows and is the cause of many miracles. Every year there are hundreds of sightings of the first Emperor which strengthens some people's belief in the theory.

The other general family of conspiracy theories in the Imperial Dominion involves clones replacing the nobility, believed by an indeterminable amount of people since the claims are for different individuals. Despite the fact that a clone impersonating a noble is against Imperial laws and that it would be easy to catch them, people still believe it. The reasons differ depending on the specific person being claimed to be a clone but many point out "personality inconsistencies" and potential reported accidents as proof that a noble has been replaced. Sometimes people see somebody that looks close to a noble they know of and, if that person makes a public appearance around that same time in a different location, take a picture to sell to some of the more disreputable internal news companies in the Empire.

The interesting thing is that the conspiracy theories are not 100% wrong. Technically, the first Emperor is still alive and some of the sightings are real depending on the disaster causing his glamours to fade. However the cause of his immortality is much more sinister and nobody in the Empire knows he's truly still alive. In fact, he looks more like he's in his forties than approaching his 14th century. As for the cloned nobles, depending on the influence of the House and the relatives of the noble in question, there have been known cases of clones successfully impersonating nobles. The conspiracy theory is based upon half heard whispers that the servants of certain nobles spread. The sources of the whispers are never known but, through their own spy network, part of the Imperial Inheritance involves knowledge of which House and families therein have clone blood in them. It's part of the way House Longweather stays in power.

Postby Imperium Sidhicum » Wed Mar 18, 2015 8:12 pm

There's a fairly widespread belief that the CABAL network was in fact intended by the Emperor to become a sort of digital hivemind of the entire Sidh race, ensuring the immortality of every Sidh connected to it at the cost of free will and privacy, a plan that was never completed because of the Emperor's assassination. While it is true that CABAL has a secret protocol (somewhat of an open secret) designed for exclusive compatibility with the monarch of the Imperium, enabling him or her to harness the total processing power of all electronic devices connected to it in order to gain and process vast amounts of information necessary to make accurate predictions and strategic decisions, there is no evidence that the Emperor ever intended this function to be accessible to all Sidhae, and any who might know the truth are either long dead or sworn to secrecy.

Another theory is that the Empress is not in fact the Emperor's biological daughter, but an adopted child, possibly of one of his war buddies from his youth on old Terra. This theory is discredited by the fact that the first sources to mention the Emperor's daughter date to around 2040, shortly before the Pilgrimage, meaning she could not have been born earlier than 2038, a long time after the Emperor no longer personally served in armed forces. That does not exclude the possibility that she might be the daughter of one of his many military associates, of a personal friend fallen in one of the two World Wars fought around the time, but there is enough evidence to suggest that the Empress is indeed the Emperor's own child.

Yet another theory states that the Unknown Mother is in fact fictional, or at best a hired caretaker rather than Emperor's spouse or lover, the Empress in fact being a genetically-engineered female version of the Emperor himself. The secrecy surrounding the nature of Unknown Mother and the Empress's birth leads certain credibility to that.

Whatever the truth, official sources and the majority of the public dismiss these suggestions as nonsense and borderline blasphemy.

---

There is also a theory that the Traitor Clans during the Sidh Civil war were in fact right about the Empress organizing her own father's assassination to seize power, and planting falsified evidence to the contrary to be discovered later in order to rally support and win the civil war, empowering her to silence any political opposition and curb the power of the Clans, leaving her the undisputed absolute ruler of the Sidh race.

Obviously, such a suggestion is regarded as vile enemy propaganda, anyone expressing such a view being liable to prosecution for spreading traitorous and unpatriotic ideas.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A large group of conspiracy theorists believe that the Order of the White Lotus, an Altarian secret society made up of the Altarian Emperor and the Altarian sub-monarchs, was behind the former United Confederation of Altarian Nations' government, the Chirutarisu government and the Zero World Council. The White Lotus they say, was an organization set to unite the world under the anthros through a mixture of strategies such as armed conflict or intergovernmental organizations, all leading to the establishment of a Pax Altaria and the unification of Zero under Altaro. Many point to the unnecessarily brutal invasion of Tervalia during the Great Zeronian War and Altaro's dominance over the ZWC Security Council as prime examples of this.

However, while the White Lotus is indeed a secret society, there is no evidence to point that they have plans to unify the planet under the former Altarian empire. After all, it had already collapsed, and most Altarians would rather focus on domestic problems rather than dream of empire.

Another related theory that is widely circulated, especially by anti-Altarian militant groups in foreign countries, is that Altaro's dissolution isn't factual. Conspiracy theorists who entertain this claim point to the defection of Former Altarian Intelligence Agency Agent Ichiei Fujibayashi to Stormwrath, who later wrote three books on the theory. He claimed that the fall of Altaro was a deception used against the human Zeronian powers, especially Stormwrath, that it would appear that the Empire of Altaro would break up into separate states. However, they would still be under the control of the AIA and the Altarian Federal Assembly in Empire City. The ultimate goal is to isolate and cripple the human nations so that it can return to its previous status as the only superpower.

There isn't much evidence to back this claim, as any effort to reunify the anthro nations so far has failed. Besides that, Chirutarisu today doesn't have the capabilities to isolate its principal rivals, particularly Stormwrath, as they all have self-sustaining empires. Also, neither Empress Zakura II nor Prime Minister Markleson have commented on this claim.

There are three popular Conspiracies!

Postby The Andromeda Islands » Wed Mar 18, 2015 11:00 pm

1) That the Western Islands, the least populated and least explored of the Allied States, is home to an alien, humanoid race.

2) That the assassination of President Vaughn Dunlap in 2030 was organized by either Vice President Anna Kaewkhonkaen or 2nd Vice President Gina Castlglione.

3) That two of the living former Presidents are related to each other and part of a secret cabal that runs the Andromeda Islands.

"There has been one conspiracy about a secret power struggle that has been floating around lately. Conspiracy theorists, mainly those from the West, claim that both the Liberals and the Conservative Nationalists have been engaging in some form of bloodless, silent power struggle, with methods such as kidnapping and murders being used by both side.

Although, in reality, these are more like mere rumors created to spread fear-mongering within the People's Republic..."

There are flatiron-esque pyramids at the Storhjälte mountain range. Each pyramid is said to be a temple complex to a specific Norse god or to certain Norse gods, and contain sacred relics that have powerful properties, including a batch of Golden Apples of Youth from Asgard. Archaeologists are trying to debunk this, and the government is believed to be involved in this (for the power relics), although the government claims its only involvement is in funding the archaeologists.

There are number of conspiracy theories that exist within the Empire, that the German government is secretly persecuting Muslims, that the Teutonic Order is building its own private crusader army in private, and that the Reichswehr conducted sapient testing during the Second World War at various sites. Of course, most consider these theories as ridiculous and unfounded and choose to ignore them.

The current leader may not even exist and is simply a construct of the legislation, and that none of the past leaders have existed either.

On the contrary, another one is that the legislation doesn't exist as anything other than voices in the leader's head, and that the leader is selected on who can hear the voices the most clearly.

The reason why there is no major right-wing party in Gandoor is believed by some to be due to government "threatening" to make people that establish a party either "disappear" or "learn from their mistakes". Of course, the real reason is much simpler: Gandoorese people as a whole are extremely left-leaning, so there's no much support for a right-wing party to form in the first place.

None of the people that believe this conspiracy can answer why Queen Aiko Heiwa, who is an immortal goddess who can't even be injured, would need to risk the lives of innocent and mortal women though.
