I know what you asked. I am giving you the 100% honest answer.

Superhumans have no objective existence and are not bound by reality. They are whatever you want them to be, and their capabilities and limitations are entirely up to you as the author to decide. How to "realistically" use something which has no relation to reality at all is a completely pointless question. You may as well ask how to realistically invade heaven and how many megatons it will take to kill god.

Batman and Superman. These are both superheroes, but they are completely incomparable. Batman is a cosplay commando. Superman could conquer the world without much trouble, by himself. And these are not even the most extreme examples of "superheroes" at either end of the power spectrum. Some are literally ordinary people wearing masks. Some could end the entire universe (or more!) without breaking a sweat.

I don't think you really understood the question but that does not matter. I have already gotten several very good responses that have more or less confirmed my previous assumptions. Thanks to everybody who took the time to respond to my most unusual question. You have all been very helpful. :)

The one issue I see with using them exclusively as propaganda is that keeping them out of battle while ordinary people die could be surely seen as cowardice. Using them as Navy SEALs or similar special-ops makes sense and was what I was imagining before, along with propaganda uses. During peace-time I had an idea to deploy them to domestic police and government forces, mainly as propaganda or one-man SWAT teams.

I've heard a lot of people say that and I don't really get it. I don't find it weird at all compared to all the stuff you'd find on NS.

I'm not offended by your reaction though. It just tells me I'm doing something new and different that hasn't been seen before which is good.

Most military fact books typically contain specific models of battle tanks, or fighter jets. Sailor Moon is... atypical. In the extreme. Coming from a guy that watches anime regularly, that should tell you how... deviant your fact book is.

My normal military is pretty much the US army but I haven't gotten around to writing it down yet.

Back in the realm of normal....

Are there any modern analogues to lightly armored but well armed tanks like the Leopard I or Hellcat? I was thinking the Stryker MGS but the L7 gun doesn't really have enough power to take out the most modern of tanks. Have ATGM carriers mostly been the replacement?

As far as vehicles armed with something greater than 105mm? Sprut-SD

But plenty of wheeled death trucks exist with 105mm: Centauro, Rooikat 105, CM-32, MCV, Vextra.

Tbh God probably uses Tigers. He's therefore not a match for Shermans and Cromwells.

Schwere Panzer Abieltung 502 wrote:Said 'superheroes' are so far outside the realm of what's realistic that I think it's a bit hard to even judge them. Something like a cat or primate are no more or less flesh and blood than any human, and thus vulnerable to anything humans are, but when you get into things like shapeshifting, telekinesis, and teleportation, you've gone beyond science fiction and into fantasy.

I'm looking at it from a more strategic standpoint rather than if they themselves could exist or not. Like if you had a few people in your army who are super-strong and nearly impervious to damage how would they be best used?

Characters like that are referred to as tanks for a reason. If you don't have a limited supply of them, use them like tanks. They'd also be useful for lugging heavy equipment around, sticking missiles on planes, etc.

Shapeshifters and telepaths would obviously make excellent intelligence agents.

Teleportation, depending on how powerful it is, could be used either for mass transport of personnel and supplies, or spec ops style infiltration, assassination, sabotage, or intelligence operations. (Basically pop in, kill someone, plant a bomb, steal information, and pop out). Or there's suddenly an armored division sitting in the enemy HQ.

Telekinesis, again depends on what it's limitations are. Heavy lifting, mine clearing, deflecting or stopping projectiles, guiding your own projectiles, throwing mountains at people, etc. If they can deflect missiles, put at least one on every single ship you have.

Kiev is right, how a military would use special individuals would depend on what precisely they can do and how many of them there are.

Other than the whole "line up and fire volleys"

It worked pretty much the same as it happened in europe. Yes there were likely more small scale skirmishes and general irregular warfare but the British and french forces did fight a number of full on pitched battles.

The tutorial campaign from empire:total war is a good illustration of some aspects.
