The hilt is the entire part that isn't the blade, so yes it does have a hilt.

The guard is the two parts that curve around to cover the fingers. Personally I think that design is more to do with supporting your shield than protection, but it still fits the role.

The fingers are nowhere near the egde and you couldn't even extend a finger from the grip to the edge.

You lose.

Also I've done plenty of messers. Can't be bothered linking to any though.

Now just imagine, making a larger version, for like shishkebabs or whathaveyou; which would actually be somewhat, slightly useful. In fact, the "Rapier" would finally have a practical use & application.
