Hm, I already thought that the question wouldnt spawn much of a response of many regulars. I would contribute, but I am writing my nations history at the moment (its pretty thorough, as some may have noticed I like history) and I just arrived in the 8th century. If this doesnt set off I will pick the idea up again and will contribute then.

I said "Not a foggiest idea, " because early history of my nation is sort of "structure of space-time has been changed" blur.

I'm not disputing that the double M1911 is anything more than a novelty item for civilians irl. But when someone comes to the NS IDT thread and says, "give me a reason to use this," I'm under the impression that they're looking to incorporate whatever it is into their nation's military, in which case they could just as easily rework the basis of a realworld novelty item into an early attempt at a military weapon that came about as a result of their equivalent to Project SALVO.

'lol prototype guise' has newer been and will newer be an acceptable answer.

As not to divert too much from the threads topic, what is your armys oldest regiment etc. that still exists ?

The 3rd Regiment of Foot, The Laird of Connel's Regiment (1st Infantry).

Formed in 1615 The Laird of Connel's Regiment was originally a mercenary regiment raised for service in NOT!Europe. After serving in various prodestant forces the regiment returned to Crookfur in 1660 and was formally incorporated into the Revisied Establishment Army on its formation in 1661 as the 4th Regiment of Foot.

Whilst the oldest regiment in Crookfur Service Is preceeded by 2 younger but more Senior hosehold guards regiments:

The 1st Regiment of Foot, The Royal Footgaurds (1st Guards) (1640)
The 2nd regiment of Foot, The Crookfur Gaurds (2nd Guards) (1651)

Should I invest my time in developing/looking into getting a 7mm based cartridge or are the benefits negligible compared to the 7.62x51 I'm currently using?

The benefits are negligible. If you were going from an older 19th/very early 20th century cartridge I'd suggest something like the .270 British with the .276 Pedersen's projectile, but a 7mm cartridge doesn't really offer any real reason to switch from the 7.62x51mm to it. It's much better to go with the 5.45x39mm or 5.56x45mm.

Isn't half the problem of "just use 7.62x51" that it only really applies to switching to GPCs now, since early heavy intermediates like the .280 and .270 were being suggested at the same time that 7.62x51 was?

Yeah. If you're switching from the .303/.30-06/7.92x57mm, then one of the heavier intermediates offers advantages over the 7.62x51mm (except the .280, which offers almost none). The .270 British with 125gr projectile would weigh somewhere between 19 and 20 grams (depending on case material), which would offer a 7-8 gram weight reduction over the .30-06 and 7.92x57mm. It would be less over the .303 and 7.62x54mmR, but you make up for it in reduced recoil and superior ballistics. You're still probably going to end up with a 5.56mm or 5.45mm equivalent, though. The weight savings aren't that good.

Well, I mean hey, it's up to you; but for reference stuff, just look at how actual casket mags are constructed now that your in full-swing lineart-mode.
