Literally more hideous than the FAMAS.

With the drum, maybe. The standard magazines make it look pretty much like a bullpup M16.

That requires the soldier to stop what he's doing, unload his backpack, remove the stripper clips from his backpack, load the stripper clips into his empty magazines, put his pack back on, then continue firing.

As for weight a magpul E-mag weights around 0.30 pounds. 10 times that is 3 pounds. Is 3 pounds really a deal changer?

What makes this a vast difficulty? It's served soldiers well as a concept since the magazine-fed rifle.
Stripper clips are less bulk to carry. For two stripper clips of 12 rounds each, that's "0.30 pounds" less weight that needs carrying.

Why does he need sixteen loaded magazines?

3x10 clips of 5.56x45mm NATO: 130x3 Grams= 390 grams
x1 30 round STANAG Magazine 5.56x45mm NATO = 460 grams
Weight savings = 70 grams per magazine
70 x 6 = 450 grams

One lb weight savings for carrying 6 magazines worth of chargers on you vs an extra six magazines. Oddly enough, if we were aonly arguing weigt, I would disagree with you, as the single lb of weight saving doesnt merrit it, but I agree with you for a few reasons:

1. 16 magazines is fucking retarded.
2. 16 magazines are going to be gigantig huge in webbing and keep you from doing much of anything efficiently
3. chargers are less voluminous than magazines in stowage, meaning more room for more things.

All things preferred, its not a bad idea to have MORE ammo in chargers than you do for your rifle, because then you carry more to recharge. In an extended operations pack, that is.

8-12 magazines i really about what you'd expect in a normal load. An issued load is rarely more than 6+1, but soldiers will always find a way to take more ammo, so long as its not going to be cumbersome.

Tulacia wrote:Oh, that. I didn't know that was what that was called. How does it work in a modern rifle? It was quite easy to use for WWII and WWI weapons like the Garand and Kar98k, but those didn't have true magazines.

They're used to charge magazines outside of the weapon faster, unless you're the Vz. 58, which will accept them with a magazine in the rifle.

Gimmicky weapon. Shotguns have there place in warfare, and that place is for MPs and breaching teams, ship born security, and a rare few operations. The fully automatic nature of the AA-12 is not needed for anything other than having illegal amounts of fun.

The FRAG-12 was the real gimmick of the AA-12 that turned out to be less gimmicky than was originally thought, but still pretty bad.

Infantry squad is the standard 12 men, broken down as such:

--CO/CIC with Heavy Assault Rifle (SCAR-like weapon) chambered in 7.92x33mm
--2IC with Light Assault Rifle (M4/M16-like weapon) chambered in 7.92x33mm
--8 Riflemen with Semi-Auto Rifles (either with my Nerf gun rip or a heavily modified M14) chambered in 7.92x57mm
--2 Heavy Weapons Specialists (machine-gun; MG3 mod) chambered in 7.92x57mm
Each man also carries a handgun chambered in 9x19mm for emergency defence.

Of course, I still need to figure out grenades and such, and most of these weapons.

Update: I'm changing the assault rifles to 7.62x51mm NATO. I can draw up the handgun and the semi-auto, and I don't need to do much if anything to the MG3, but I'll probably get the assault rifles from a GE&T storefront. Same with my navy and airforce.

TL;DR I suck at drawing everything except tanks.

Having both 8mm Mauser and 7.62 NATO seems rather redundant.

What about 5.56 for the assault rifles? I want the automatic weapons to have a slightly smaller caliber because they're automatic and so will end up having the same effective power as the semi-autos.

They don't really needed a smaller caliber. Riflemen will rarely be firing in automatic so it doesn't really matter.

There's been plenty of automatic rifles in full-powered rounds anyways, tbh.

I was thinkinh that would level where primary source of leadership is given by officers instead of NCOs, be where combat technical level ends and tactical level starts, but then I realized that with certain forces, and small unit doctrines it propably would push officers quite down in the chain of command. :p

I guess I'll just make everything 7.62x51mm. Makes it more compatible with others' designs anyways, since not many nations use the 8mm Mauser. Most go 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, or 7.62.
