Because of the low total ammunition and low ammunition weight, you might get away with spring feed or something, but I'm not certain.

Hmm. Beyond Tue basic layout I suspect your right. The idea in any case, is to have an ammunition drum wherein the ammunition is placed radially with the projectiles pointing towards the center. Assuming I've not buggered the measurements, a 150 round drum would be roughly 9x6cm, which really is fairly small all told.

The only issue with such a design is that the rounds, sitting radially with their noses down, are not in a particularly handy position for feeding. My idea was to have the cartridge grabbed and rotated by a set of arms attached to the bolt carrier group. The operation would, in theory be fairly simple, relying only on a pivot point and an additional reciprocating piece.

Skurb, point the boolets in and use a spiral, like every 100 round bren pan magazine ever.

How do we feel about the wrist top computers that are coming out these days?
In adition to providing field commanders the ability to live update orders and track troop movements, some of them have built in cameras, laser range finders and a casualty call function (among many other features.)
Do they really have a place on the battlefield? Or are they a security risk?

I'd imagine that as a linked combat system it'd be a great thing. I mean, all platoons have live updated tactical maps? Handy as fuck. The cameras would be as good as you'd expect of cell phone cameras, so not the best, but convenient to have. The laser range finders would be too short ranged for any real battlefield use, imo. I've got a pocket laser rangefinder about the thickness of two decks of cards; 500 metres effective range. And that one's quite new.

So the core functions of it are useful, but the "extra" features are better left to more dedicated devices.

It's more practical to carry your technology. Just give them Iphones.

Consider the screen size, keyboard layout, ergonomics of its positioning on the wrist and likelihood of being damaged on the wrist.
What mitigates basically all of these? Carrying a legit iPad.

I think too that the average grunt has no need for a wrist mounted iPod, while COs can better use the larger screen size of a iPad.

You simply aren't N+1 denominational thinkers is clearly the issue here.

Eh. I'm partial to the idea of a convenient PDA like device for NCOs and unit commands, having it mounted on the non-dominate position makes sense, but not in an MT setting really, since its liable to break. You'd need strong materials, touchscreens, self healing glass, ect. in order to actually make it practical. All of these are totally possible now, just very expensive and cost-prohibitive in a sense.

In the year 2030 though, who knows.

How exactly did you intend to step on my toes, out of curiosity? :eyebrow:

I still think such a system is by necessity hampered in usability compared to just a regular tablet.

Pretty much, but I fucking hate tablets. My job started going "paperless" a few years ago and ive had to carry the shitty thing with me around work for some time.

Which is why I want it mounted on my forearm in a nice 12cmx30cm display landscape or something :P

Anyways I haven't given up doing that post on hot to into terminal ballistics. I just recently discovered how much fun modding Skyrim is, been working awful shifts, and, well, been lazy. It'll be done around the time Samoz makes a storefront.

Well, your forearms maybe, but a Johnny Average like myself? Sounds cumbersome. Moreso than carrying the thing.
