AKM/AK74's for everybody.
You probably already know what IDT is going to recommend for '80s era firearms.
Which is to say FN FAL's. Also for everyone.

Spear heads really aren't heavy. If they were then the spear would be a lot less agile, which is super bad. If you do insist of having spikes, have them be pretty thin and no longer than the spearhead is broad. That way there's nothing really wrong with them being there.

Make the tank longer for a stronger fit when chopping

Spears should not have tangs. Not even if you want to "quickly" remove the spearhead to use it as a knife. I know someone here once suggested that.

That's the thing. Viking age spears did have reasonably broad and heavy heads and could be used for cutting. And they did have flanges. What I propose is simply an evolutionary development of this where the head becomes heavier, the spikes become longer and sharp and the whole thing slowly starts morphing into a halberd.

As for agility I do not see it as much of a problem because this thing would be used as a halberd. As in, as a chopping implement with a limited thrusting capability. It's tactical role would basically be similar to the large two handed axes and the like. This thing is basically my equivalent of the Dane Axe. But visually at least it is an evolution of the spear.

No idea what this means.

Basically every spear has a metal shaft at the base of the blade that you push the wooden handle through. I want to make that metal bit longer to give this thing more rigidity when chopping. Basically think of it as a precursor to the langets you'll see on halberds and war hammers. I called it a tang because it makes sense to call it that and I don't know the proper name.

I just figure I can evolve something out of them. The same way that halberds eventually did. The end result would probably resemble a primitive version of the partisan.

Cut and thrust spears existed, not chopping spears. There's a big difference between a quick push or draw cut and a chop. You would have to rely on arm power alone to penetrate armour with a downward attack.

And yes that would be called a tang, but there were barely ever used on polearms outside of the Far East, and even then they still prefered sockets.

I can't find any history on langets specifically, but I have no doubt that langets would have been a thing long before war hammers and halberds were. Also I recall reading about tangs being much weaker and less secure than langets. It would probably be worth just keeping with langets, since there was no real evolution regarding how the heads were attached, at least not that late.

That's why you don't. Again, look at halberds or Dane axes. You aren't supposed to be chopping away at armor with the axe blade. The blade is for chopping into those without much armor. The spikes are for the armor.

As I said. Forget the spear thing for a moment. This is basically a cross between a Dane Axe and a halberd that looks like a primitive partisan with spikes on the side.

And yes that would be called a tang, but there were barely ever used on polearms outside of the Far East, and even then they still prefered sockets.

Socket! That's the word I was searching for! I basically want an elongated socket.

I know of this. I just want to give this thing a sort of "transitional" feel to it. You see they are trying but they aren't there yet. :)

Purp; why not just use a dane axe? It's a proto-halberd anyway (in regard to versatility and how it was used). You can stab with the horn, hook with the beard and hammer with the "eye" of the axe head. that, or just slap a hammerhead on the other side of the axe head.

A longer socket? That would be unusual but I guess it would be fine, just as long as there are plenty of rivets and chopping isn't the primary form of attack, otherwise langets are what you need.
