Sorry for getting steamed, but I don't like getting told that not doing things someone else's way is the wrong way. This nation is not just a game for me, like I said earlier, I didn't make it for this site. It exists outside of the site, and I created it long before I started playing NationStates. It's part of my own personal universe, which I develop through my art, and it's basically my whole life.

So you can imagine why being told I'm 'doing it wrong' would piss me off.

This is a realism thread as stated before. Take what you get and try to take it in a positive light. I happened to like what you've shown us. On it's own from a fictional-science-fiction-hey-let's-have-fun POV it's unique and very personal for you. Personally even touching Sci-fi stuff can be controversial and annoyingly complicated as things typically are. Have fun and be realistic when you want to. Heck I'm still gonna have my troopers ride ostrich-chariots to battle.

please understand that this thread tends to be geared towards modern and post modern tech, so designs operating on unobtainium or other FT wankery are bound to be criticized from a realistic perspective. If having your designs evaluated for a realistic perspective does not appeal to you, it is advisable you do not post here. There is nothing wrong with past-tech, fantasy tech, or any other non-modern technology based nation posting a design, and you are welcome to post here, but be prepared for the inevitable "That won't work because..." post. These are not meant to offend you, they are meant to teach you. If you do not require education, simply turn your self into the nearest secrete police official (leave the thread).

If you do post a design here, you agree that it will be criticized by the liberated people of this thread. You are under no obligation to change the design based on this criticism, but continuing to argue in the face of facts will only lead to defeat at the hands of the invincible thread regulars.

It's a general infantry thread. It should not have a bias for or against hard realism.

Anyway about your comment on realism are focusing on the MT rather than the FT context of your Tech. Looking back most of the responces have been from a realistic FT purspective based mostly on modern theories and a fairly practical standpoint.

Again all very debatable and is the reason why I avoid Sci-Fi. Good luck and keep doing what you're doing cause it looks amazing.

So I've been fooling with that railgun calculator published some pages back, and I've got one question left.

Assuming that:
I have a bbl of 50cm long, with a 15mm rail spacing to fire a 15mm ball bearing (14 grams) at 450 m/s, all other variables as they are in the default sheet.

My current limit is set to 8.6 KA/mm to force the final muzzle velocity.

The sheet tells me that it'll require 4.6 KW of power. However, I'm stuck at calculating the amount of amps I'll need.

Someone help me calculate amps?

IDT is not, despite what some people think, a place to brag about how big your military's stick is. It's for discussion, creation, and critique of infantry-related tactics, weapons, and formations. Saying that you own the entire known omniverse and are bigger than thou isn't remotely part of that, and there's no conceivable situation in which such a statement could lead to intelligent debate*. So yes, we're based in realism - because realism is about the only thing actually discussable. Everything else belongs in the writing thread, not here.

On that note I have to ask what are the benefits of a pistol caliber SMG?
As I don't see many after the popularity of rifle cailber SBRs and Karbines.

Using pistol-caliber ammunition makes them easier to suppress; pistol rounds also, by their shape, have better ballistic terminal effects, and are thus more likely to stop someone faster, as well as not over-penetrate. They're also usually a lot lighter than rifle rounds, meaning that it's more convenient to carry one around.

Most of the advantages of rifle rounds, being ballistic stability, muzzle velocity, etc. are all ruined by having a short barrel; thus, the extra gunpowder just turns into a louder bang and a larger muzzle flash - both of which can be no just annoying but also hazardous in enclosed spaces.
