Most sci-fi creators know that energy shielding is probably not very practical and real life, and guess what, they don't give a shit. Imposing limitations on creativity is detrimental.

When I do scifi ships are ramming eachother and exchanging broadsides. Do you really think I give a flying fuck about hard realism? I don't. But some things are absolutely unreasonable.
