I am assuming you are talking about the M-113. You might be interested in the AIFV (Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle) which is a development of the M113A1.

The BMO-T needs to deliver its crew much closer than the BMP was ever intended to. The RPO is a shoulder fire weapon. For RPO teams to do their job they need to be delivered within range of shoulder fired weapons. Which means they are also in range of RPGs.

The PMRS has the specialized reconnaissance equipment needed for reconnaissance.

I just thought. Would the BTMP-84 or similar be a decent vehicle to use instead? I mean if it's protection that is needed, this has that and firepower.

Tanks don't normally shoot backwards but...

Flamethrower teams don't really need a tank.

Well if it were an assault it would give them a pretty good advantage over being in a heavy APC. Whats wrong with the idea, other than cost.

Using flamethrowers? They just don't see that much use any more, your troops could instead be using thermobaric warheads, grenade launchers or other devices that have been reducing the need for flamethrowers.

Well I was referring to RPO-A teams in BMO-Ts rather than traditional flamethrowers.

Cost is a pretty significant problem. Perhaps the most significant one. It's just not needed.

What are the thoughts about combining lightly armored wheeled IFV's with AT capability, APC's and light tanks similar to a T-55 in place of tracked IFV's like the Marder, Bradley and so on?

It is basically what my ground forces do. Not because I think it is the most effective but also because it can hopefully make use of much cheaper vehicles that are in great supply that would otherwise be obsolete if used in their originally intended roles.

Sorry about that. My nation does not have an IFV that is comparable to something like a Marder or the other contemprary IFV's mentioned here. It does have various armored cars that can be armed with :not:Tow missiles or auto cannons/ heavy machine guns. I also have a large number of tanks that are comparable to T-55's with 100mm guns. This is what my nation has to offer in place of those IFV's.

It does have okay MBT's, artillery and so on but I haven't designed a tracked IFV for this nation yet and I wonder what the thoughts are on my current alternative for them. (The :not:T-55's and armored cars.)

This is an example of such an armored car:

I use expensive Nihon armor cuz mountains.
All other armor is inferior. If you tank can't barely take a shot across the frontal arc without exploding violently while moving at 60 kph in reverse, you're doing it wrong.

Except if we are picky thats not a Matra launcher but a UB-32 launcher for the 57mm S5 rocket.

Now you could solve that issue by shopping in an actual matra launcher.

But do they need a BMO-T?

Or to put it more directly: Should I, too, divert extra resources to making specialized tank-hull, Namer-style Heavy IFVs for my own thermobaric-assault units, or keep them in "regular" IFVs?

If you are building a heavy vehicle, why would you start with a light vehicle chassis?

The BMO-T only needed structural modifications. That is cheap. A BMP with comparable armor would likely need a new engine, new transmission and new suspension. That is expensive.

I see.

I think I'll take note of this and come back to it later on, since I still need to flesh out the plans for my better-armored IFV which will replace the :not:BMP-2.
