• Festivals - being a predominately atheist people with a secular nation, there are no religion-based holidays. Throughout the year, Kadigans have four major festivals centered around the solstices and equinoctes:
  
  • Winter Solstice - between 20-23 December - this is usually a celebration with family, traditionally around a big sit-down feast.
    
  • Vernal Equinox - between 19-22 March - this is a uniquely Kadigan festival centered around their love of philosophy. During this festival, philosophers will host grand debates (a favorite past-time of Kadigans) at local Community Halls. As "Chief Philosopher of the Kadiagans", the king/queen will deliver their annual address to the nation during this festival.
    
  • Summer Solstice - between 20-22 June - this is usually a celebration with friends, centered around big backyard barbecues.
    
  • Autumnal Equinox - between 22-24 September - being near our big national holiday (20 September), this is traditionally a celebration of community and patriotism with fireworks, parades, &c. with tribute to paid to veterans and other fallen heroes. Every other year, the results of the election are usually known by this date, and the Prime Minister-elect usually gives his/her acceptance speech to the nation.
  These four festivals highlight what Kadigans consider to be the 4 pillars of civilized society: Family (celebrated in the winter), Friends (summer), Community (autumn), and Philosophy (spring).

The Kawaiian Solar calendar divides the year into 8 seasons of approximately 45 days each. The Solar calendar is astronomical, based on the position of the Sun relative to the solstices and equinoxes. The solstices divide the year in two, the equinoxes divide it again into quarters, and the cross-quarter days (where the Sun's position is midway between a solstice and an equinox) divide it again into eighths. The seasons are named as follows:

Cold - from the winter solstice to the winter cross-quarter day, roughly 22 December to 6 February.
Brightness - from the winter cross-quarter day to the spring equinox, roughly 7 February to 20 March.
Growth - from the spring equinox to the spring cross-quarter day, roughly 21 March to 6 May.
Warming - from the spring cross-quarter day to the summer solstice, roughly 7 May to 21 June.
Sunshine - from the summer solstice to the summer cross-quarter day, roughly 22 June to 6 August.
Heat - from the summer cross-quarter day to the fall equinox, roughly 6 August to 22 September.
Harvest - from the fall equinox to the fall cross-quarter day, roughly 23 September to 6 November.
Darkness - from the fall cross-quarter day to the winter solstice, roughly 7 November to 21 December.
