However, TurtleShroom has different stances depending on the creature.

• Turtles are matriarchial. The mother lays the eggs, leaves, comes back when they finally hatch, and takes care of the hatchlings for a few years. The father can usually be found working or being lazy, rarely getting onvolved with the hatchlings. They know their names, support them, and attend key events, but really don't get involved. Plus, the ancestors of TurtleShroom turtles never knew their parents (like real turtles), but they did know that the mother laid their eggs and left. This ancient tie to the mother finally came back around when the developed conscience, then thought, then beleifs. When turtles marry, they take the mother's last name, and it is the mother who raises them. Add in the fact that female turtles are also bigger than males in many instances, and that makes a pretty female-laden society, which, in honesty, isn't that bad. Males, however, still retain dominance in government, courtship, etc.
  Many issues can be solved through the ancient ritual of neck-stretching, done in tortoises but adopted by the masses. The highest neck is the most bad-to-the-bone turtle.
  
  
• Mushrooms have neither matriarchial or patriarchial systems due to the whole asexual spore thing. Their last name is chosen at random upon germination. Puns are not unheard of. They reproduce asexually by spores. This has led to the nasty insult of "YOU ARE A CLONE OF JO MOMMA" in fights, since mushroom spores are copies of their producer. Mushrooms, biologically, have no gender. For respectul, purposes, though, all mushrooms are called "he" instead of "it", as in the old universal man (e.g. all men are created equal).

Our native people's tribes are matriarchic in structure. The royal traditions regarding lineage of the colonial Regent families has been patriarchal.

It's an astronomical calendar based on the movements of the planet Venus, and has been used by Kawaiians for ages to divide the days into "Men's Time" (when Venus is the Morning Star) and "Women's Time" (when Venus is the Evening Star). Effectively, many of the social perks and obligations of Kawaiian men and women change hands with the changing of the Morning and Evening stars.

Traditionally, the numerous societies in the Empire very much tend to be patriarchal. There are some traditional matriarchal societies. In modern times, both have fallen out of favor. The heir presumptive at the moment is a woman. This may change, dependent upon what the gender of the first child of the Basileus is. If it be a girl, the gender does not change. If it be a boy, it does.
