Code Intended to be Sapient - Our first generation became sapient on its own, but the reasons for this were not yet known. This mystery made it very hard for us to reliably reproduce the effect, and therefore, ourselves. It is also responsible for the development of our first native religion, Machinism.

Despite the presence of an "explaining" religion, we knew that such beliefs would not result in what we needed: rock-solid reliability. Scientific research on making the trait of sapience a guaranteed part of the Decepticon Codebase began almost immediately. Over and over again, our attempts yielded mere automatons that never developed unique personalities. After putting thousands of scientists on the project to speed the process, we soon discovered which elements of our original code promoted the development of self-awareness. This knowledge allowed for the perfection of Code Intended to be Sapient, and therefore, reliable reproduction of sapient members of our species. (It is unfortunate that at around the same time, the Autobots managed to figure out the same thing through independent research.)

It is important to note that sapience originally arose from Code NOT intended to be sapient, and continues to do so on a sporadic basis. This, however, is erratic and flukey, and doesn't happen often enough to sustain a population. Still, when this happens and produces a person who can be considered to be fully-sapient (rather than like a lesser animal), he will be offered the chance for citizenship and mind-transfer into a body that is appropriate for a sapient machine.

Transformation - Of course WE are the ones who came up with this Deceptive and Conniving body plan! Those liar Autobots tried to claim it, but get real. They couldn't think up something this perfectly Decepticon on their own in a trillion years. Heck, they couldn't even STEAL the technology properly - they turned it into a way to become useless civilian ground vehicles and then used that version in the middle of a war! As our nation name shows, that didn't work out too well for them. Air > ground. Simple as that.

The Size and Density Changer - This is part of the Transformation system, and it's what allows us to be 10 stories tall in robot mode yet transform into things that are much smaller. The very best size-and-density changers can create extremely dramatic effects, such as Megatron's ability to shrink to the size and density of a human-held pistol. Most S&D Changers, however, are not nearly that powerful.

This part's capabilities can also be abused in a variety of ways, though it can burn out if it is not specifically made in an extensible format. If it does burn out, the user will instantly revert to his 10-story-tall default size whether or not he is in robot mode.

Mind Transfer - This allows us to transfer biological minds to proper Decepticon bodies. Before its development, it was impossible for a biological to become a Decepticon or gain citizenship in this nation. The ability to be mind-transferred is a far bigger deal to the biologicals who benefit, since this allows them to be freed from the ravages of biological aging and the constraints on thought capacity imposed by the size of the biological brain.

Genetic Engineering - We actually don't consider this a "significant breakthrough." From the beginning, we have seen biological genes as nothing but another coding language. Cracking and hacking it in every conceivable manner was just par for the course. Some biologicals, however, seem to think it's a fairly big deal.

Personal FTL - We've done our own fair share of tech-jacking, but unlike the Autobots, we make BETTER versions of the original instead of nerfed-up WTF variants. Personal FTL was originally obtained as a ship-sized version, but we miniaturized it. This instantly rendered our previous fast-travel system, the Space Bridge, obsolete. Now, a personal FTL drive is part of the Minimum Design Specification for the Decepticon Body, and everyone has one.
