WARSHIP ATTACKED


Breaking News: Jamestown 5:43 PM- Reports from the Sea of Iason, just north of Tsentraslav, are flooding in about an incident with a USJR warship and a Tsentraslavan vessel. The warship in question, the S.S.V. Caprica, has unconfirmed reports of causalities and of taking on water. The navy and air force are reported to have come to the aid of the ailing vessel.

The S.S.V. Caprica was just outside Tsentraslavan waters when the incident occurred, according to the naval press agent. Before the blast there was an accident with a fishing vessel, that came too close to the ship.

President Mortimer has briefly stated that the nation of Tsentraslav will be held responsible for the actions "that have endangered our citizens and our navy," he said in a brief press conference. Military cores in the area have been raised in alert level. The President also gave this warning:

"We will not see our nation endangered by the civil unrest and turmoil in the south. The goverment of Tsentraslav is and will be held accountable for its actions."

USJR To Take Larger Part in Divergian Defense

Base under construction

Divergia 3:35 PM JST Minister of International Affairs Isaac Leon has announced that the USJR will move military divisions into Divergia in order to protect the interests of Divergia and the Soviet Republics. In an agreement with the Divergian goverment the USJR will move to construct new military bases on former colonial sites inside Divergia. These sites are to be spread throughout the country and will be able to handle "all" military actions. The Ministry of Defense has confirmed these developments and added that it will be creating a new army core for the Divergian area.

The list of sites in Divergia include several military ports and the handing over of several Divergian military bases. One of the bases is to be located on Divergian-Sunafrica canal. The USJR has committed itself, in the agreement, to protect commercial shipping in the area for pirates in northern Sunafrica.

Minister of Defense Sherlock Charings has called the deal a "great leap forward," in the defense of the region. The Minister has also stated that the USJR will be accepting Divergian conscripts and working to upgrade Divergian weaponry. Minister Charings has also noted that the USJR Core in the nation will share a join chain of command with Diverga and be responsible to the USJR.

Breaking News As USJR troops move to invade Trenstralav the Party Administration has faced rising criticism from the international community. Warnings from Rhodevus, Rezua, Sunrisia and even Zanera have called out the invasion. Press Secretary Robert Malvov, speaking for the USJR, has replied and warned other nations to "stay out" from the conflict.

In his statement to the media Malvov emphasized the point that the attack against the USJR was orchestrated by Trenstralav. His statement did not have any other evidence, but rather motives. "The Trenstralav goverment has an interest in repressing its people and keeping the USJR out of the current civil unrest in the country. As a result they saw fit to bomb our sovereign vessel. Any attack is an act of war. Thus, we must defend ourselves and restore security to the region." The Secretary stated that the Trenstralav goverment wishes to undermine the USJR by hiding their involvement in the attack.

In response to Rezua, the Secretary was equally harsh. Reading from a prepared statement, the Secretary declared that "Rezua has no right to speculate or pass judgment over our goverment. They have broken treaties against the Tsarists, rattle their sabers and undermine regional stability." Robert Malvov reported that the USJR's two western cores have begun to mobilize in the face of the "Rezuan nussence." USJR affiliates on the boarder report that the military is moving troops and supplies to strategic points along the boarder.

In reference to Rhodevus the Secretary stated that the USJR will prevent passage of all "potentially hostile" military vessels in southern Divregia. The administration also stated that the USJR will not be held responsible for any causalities in the "warzone" as a result of international negligence. The fact that the bombing was the first "attack," and that the Commonwealth's defensive pact was null in an offensive action by a member, was also repeated. In the Party Soviet a bill was proposed to ban Rhodeve maple syrup. The bill is still in quorm.

For Sunrisia, Secretary Robert Malvov called their condemnation "hypocritical" due to their own actions in Creperia. The Secretary took the time to state that like Sunrisia the USJR is defending itself and its regional interests.

Breaking News In early hour trading the Jamestown Stock Exchange loss one thousand points in a sudden selloff. For weeks the USJR economy has been slowing down despite Ministry of Interior efforts to encourage growth. After efforts to inflate the value of the Jasoon, the Tsentraslav war and poorer then expected earnings investors have finally started to sell.

Most of the stocks that are loosing value are those heavily invested in over-sea enterprises. The sell off appears to have been triggered by the threat of western sanctions. Most private companies are now trying to sell to Worker Groups, that own companies for the workers. Despite this break for worker unions there is not enough capital at hand to buy up these stocks. It is expected that the IA will lower interest rates and spur borrowing to help Unions take the bite off of the dip.

With the sudden crash the troubles of the sell off are expected to go overseas. The USJR, the second largest economy, has been taking in capital and trading with other countries since the collapse of Ophion. With the sell off markets around the world might take a dip as well.

Defense Minister Warns Capsland
NEWS BULLETIN-7:18 JST

In response to Capsland's against Divergia the Soviet Defense Minister has 'reminded' Capsland that any actions against Divergia is an act of war against the USJR. In the brief public statement the Minister stated that Divergia is not held to any international treaty prohibiting colonization in the antarctic. The Minister has also noted that the USJR, responsible for the defense of Divergia, will in response to the Capsland warning, send escorts with the civilian ships. Administration sources state that the USJR will defend its ally if called upon.

USJR Moves to Evict JRR Scum

S.S.S. Isenhov sailing to confront JRR Vessels


Breaking News: Isaac Leon has responded to the JRR's claim of construction of an artificial island near the territorial waters of the USJR in a brief press conference. His response came from the steps of the USA Building in Jamestown. Isaac stated that the JRR's actions are illegal and in violation of the USA's first resolution concerning the laws of ocean governance. Leon stated that the JRR is in violation of the treaty's EXCLUSIVE ECONOMIC ZONE, which prevent foreign nationals from using the seabed within 370 Kms, or 230 miles, of the USJR. Isaac also noted that the USJR can even use the Continental Shelf clause in junction with CONTIGUOUS ZONE rules.

Leon stated that the USJR will seek to use the customs clause of the Contiguous Zone to evict JRR ships. The Minister told the media that the seven ships, four destroyers and three cruisers, will first tell the JRR vessels to leave the waters before 'removing' them if they fail to comply. It is said that the USJR may try to sink the dredging effort with its own dredges.

After these statements Leon was rushed into a waiting limo. Many are still speculating about Resolution 43, which is the first big rejection of a USJR resolution in the USA.

New Party Chairman

Jamestown 1:07 JST After a vote of no-confidence in Party Chairmen Ernest Albert has been taken out of power and removed from the party. The vote has come after popular opinion fell for the leader in light of the recent economic downturn and foreign sanctions against the USJR for its military actions. Sentiment against the war, which the Soviet has weeks to approve of or terminate, has risen sharply in the past few weeks. Aznazian and western sanctions have sparked an economic route in foreign investment. Many private enterprises have publicly called for the ending of military actions in Tsentraslav.

Former Chairmen Albert was removed with a vote of 95 to 78. Party members have been more vocal about the war in response to local sentiments. Ernest Albert was party chairmen for nearly 6 years and was the second chairmen after the foundation of the USJR. His anti-western and assertive foreign policy is seen as the main reason for his vote of no confidence.

His replacement, Chairmen Onésime Coupe has publicly condemned President Mortimer's actions in Tsentraslav. He is the youngest Chairmen ever in the history of the Republic. Coupe was elected on the platform that he would lower military spending, increase domestic spending and reign in over spending. Despite his anti-foreign aggression policy the Chairmen has stated that he wishes to maintain the USJR's sway domestically, believing that the USJR cannot be bullied by the JRR or other powers. That being said, he also stated that the USJR should not go around "causing international incidents like a rouge nation." Coupe has also spoken out against the USA.

Soviet Approves Humanitarian Aid

Transport headed to Uszwa

Jamestown 6:36 PM JST- In today's session of the Jamestown Soviet the party approved of humanitarian aid for Uszwa and Somelio. The plan gives nearly 3 million Jasoons worth of humanitarian aid to the two countries. President Mortimer signed the bill this afternoon.

For Somelio the USJR said it will deliver humanitarian aid by ship, and if possible, plane. The hope is to help relive the unfolding humanitarian crisis in the area. In Soviet there is also a motion that will allow the USJR to take in refugees from Somelio. It is unknown whatever the bill will pass, as many party members wish to make a program to free Divergian slaves.

After failing to prevent western airstrikes in Uszwa, this move by the USJR is an interesting one. The country is communists by claim. As recent polls shown the Soviet is more eager to help leftist countries. The humanitarian aid will be shipped by plane and by cargo relief vessels to the region.

In another area of interest the USJR military has also moved vessels into position to aid CAMPLINGS.

Defense Minister Defies Rezuan Ultimatum


BREAKING NEWS Jamestown- 7:57 PM JST Defense Minister Sherlock Charings held an emergency press conference, and spoke for the President who is currently overseas. The Minister has flatly refused to obey Rezua's ultimatum which ends Friday at 8:00 PM. Minister Charlings has stated that Rezua is simple "trying to prevent the workers from rising up and is seeking to meet their imperialistic goals." In response to the Rezuan threat against the USJR the Minister also declared that the western army cores will prepare "pre-mobilization" to defend the country.

The Minister emphasized that the USJR will only be preparing defensive units in the advent of a "Imperialistic" attack against the USJR. Charings also stated that the USJR will not stop supporting the rise of the "global revolution" and will not obey any Rezuan threats.

Mortimer Fires Back


Tsetang, Gyatse 4:54 PM JST +5 After his meeting with the Chairmen of Gyastse, President Grimpen Mortimer took the time to give a speech from the ruins of an old goverment fort. The fort, which was rumored to be destroyed by the USJR, made for an interesting background in contrast with his suit and tie.

The political change in Gyaste is for the best. The people, not a politician, rose up. It is the doing of the people that has helped liberate themselves. The Soviet Republics are tool givers. We give the tools needed for the masses to rise up. We provide for the needy, we provide for our comrades, and we provide for our friends.

The workers of this country decided that they, themselves, would rise up against the bourgeoisie capitalist. They, they proletariat, did so. Is that not democracy, the matters of the people? Is that not democracy? Is the legitimacy of the goverment not given by the people?

For the nations who say that this is not proper, then what is proper? Let these people decide what they want. We supply the means. The airstrikes and ground troops are not democracy, they are imperialism. The USJR will not stand for neo imperialism. Instead we will help the masses rise up against the tyrannical leader.

We must unite! We must let the people decide what they want! We must not drop bombs but let the workers decide! Let the people vote in the streets! Do not impede progress!

PEACE MADE WITH REZUA

Celebrations in Red Square

Breaking News 6:42 JST President Grimpen Mortimer himself gave the treaty, negotiated through Aznazia, to the Party Soviet in Jamestown, where is was moments ago approved in an emergency electronic session of the Soviet. The agreement received full approval of the Soviet, and was promptly signed by the President himself. To a full square of cheering the President per-claimed victory of the Rezuans. He read out the term of the treaty, that read as follows:

Peace Terms:
-Rezua will cede its eastern most territory to the Reich, USJR and Sangaria.
*Northern part will go to the Reich
*Southern Part will be split between USJR and Sangaria
-20 mile Demilitarized zone on both sides
*USAPK from Caps and Wint will be stationed on your side
*USAPK from Fruity and some one else will be stationed on their side
-Rezua will pay 100 million dollars to Sangaria for damages


The President stated that this treaty will prevent future conflict with the "Rezuan Imperialists" and stressed that there will be consequences for the party that violates the treaty "beyond anything we have known." The President also took the time to address the recent military posturing from Turkiistan. Mortimer said "The threat posed by others and their weapons of mass destruction do not phase us. Rezua used nuclear weapons in their pitiful attempt to stop us, and we are stronger then ever. We seek peace, and do not wish to see these terrible arms used."

Defensive Military Zone


New Paris Commune Not even after a day since the peace the USJR military has been out in force, asserting the new control over the historically Soviet land. The USJR has moved to patch holes in former Rezuan airfields, and has even started to seize Rezuan tanks and supply behind the treaty line. All civilians are being allowed to leave the area, with transportation provided by military trucks. Census keepers are recording land claims, citizens and taking over civil goverment functions in the area.

The USJR has approved of and submitted the request to the USA to allow for the creation of the DMZ. In this 16km area, the USJR is not allowed to station military units. Behind this line the USJR has said that it is confiscating 8kms of land. This area, the military has said, will be a military marsh.

This zone will be the location of an anti-personnel fence, anti-tank trenches and a military checkpoints. Many military specialists have said that the Soviet will plan to build facilities on the western USJR/easter Rezuan mountains. Several even speculated that the USJR may place a minefield in this zone.

On the civilian side the President has announced that he will be accepting Divergian slaves, which will be freed, which will be given land in the New Paris Commune. These slaves will be apart of a new goverment in this area, and will be given money and training. These people will be given transportation to these new lands.

Screening in Jamestown International
Jamestown 7:23 PM JST After the recent data from Wintanceastre, the USJR Ministry of Internal Affairs has upgraded the seriousness of the Influenza Mortis Sanguinaris virus. The Ministry stated that screening for any aliment will now apply to all passengers entering into the USJR by air, and says it is preparing to search land and naval passengers if need be. The goverment has said that it will continue to cancel all flights from countries that have the pathogen in pandemic mode.

The travel ban and screening is expected to help stop active cases of the virus from entering the USJR. However, since the brief quasi war with the Commonwealth and lack of travel with a few other states affected, the ban is not expected to harm the economy to a great extent. Fears about the rapid spread of the virus are raising concerns in the USJR. Many on social media have taken to calling the virus "Pax-14," after the Cold War Era virus that swept through several former USO member states.

Several goverment officials have stated that the USJR will, along with its Divergian labs, study the virus. The interest is not only in finding a cure, but what is making the pathogen spread so rapidly. It is hoped that studying this will help protect the people of the USJR from natural outbreaks, and even help the study of biological defense.

Soviets Reinforce Defenses


Jamestown 8:29 PM In response of Rezuan calls for the returning of lost territory, the Minister of International Affairs, Issac Leon, has stated that the Soviet will not return any land to the "Rezuan aggressors," and emphasized that the USJR will abide by the treaty that it signed with Rezua. Minister Leon, speaking a crowd of reporters outside the USA building, reinforced the USJR's commitment to the demilitarized zone and warned that further military jockeying by Rezua will result in the USJR beefing up its own boarder measures. The Minister also stated that the USJR will continue the construction of the 8km militarized zone, just outside of the USA administered de-militarized zone.

The project, which has been going on for months, is designed to detture future attacks against the USJR. The zone currently consists of several anti-personnel fences, boarder checkpoints and limited connections to the east, which is USJR occupied Rezuan territory. The boarder zone also has several anti-tank trenches being build along the boarder, a row of lights, military outposts and motion/cameras being built. The Ministry of Defense has neither confirmed or denied the construction of a mine field in the zone, along with the placement of heavy weapons. Several SAM batteries and anti-tank guns have been reported by civilians passing through the area to the USA DMZ.

USJR Threatens to Leave USA


Jamestown, USA Headquarters In retort to several proposed United Sunalayan Assemblies, Foreign Minsiter Isaac Leon has publicly declared that if the assembly passes any resolution that curves the "Sovereignty of our foreign diplomacy," that the USJR will have no other choice but to leave the USA, which it helped to found after the collapse of Ophion. In his address outside of the building, the Minsiter stated that the USJR will not have its treaties violated by the USA and foreign powers not involved in the "Rezuan situation," and emphasized that the USA is not for backroom dealings, but for the good of the world. Leon argued that the USA will not survive if it is hijacked to the whims of "western imperialists." He stated that the USA was designed and created to solve problems, not to revisit old and closed issues.

Small demonstrations outside of the USA headquarters in Jamestown have begun. Protesters have been peaceful, waving USJR flags and signs outside of the security boarder of the premise. USAPKs, that guards the building, have been working with the Jamestown Police Department to ensure the security of all diplomats in the building. The USJR hosts the USA, and offers diplomatic immunity for non-homicidal and rape charges to all nations visiting or negotiating in Jamestown.

It is expected that Isaac Leon will speak in front of the assembly later this evening. Resolution 48 and 51, the two main issues to the USJR's membership. As of 10/20/15 5:30 PM Resolution 48 is passing, with 6 for and 4 against. Resolution 51 is failing, tied with four against and four for. Voting on Resolutions 48-51 are due to close tomorrow. Party Soviet members have already expressed their disappointment in the USA, with two motions proposed to discuss the USA qued for tomorrow's session of Soviet.

Soviet Votes to Leave USA

Jamestown, USA Headquarters After the passing of Resolution 51, the crowd outside of the USA building swarmed to their largest size yet. Protesters called for the USJR to leave the USA. Many are calling the USA a "Monster" that has now grown to trample on the rights of sovereign nations. Pro-Isolation Soviet members spoke at the rally. Many called the USA's most recent act a continuation of the "Consolidation, growth, and Globalist idea that has made the USA not what it was created for." Many of the speakers said that the most recent USA resolution makes every single country a vassal of the Assemble. Several are upset that the General Assembly has gained more power and has even moved to edit treaties amoungst nations.

"Are we vassals? Shall we terminate our alliance with Senkaria, just because Lindenholt say so? Will we terminate our alliance with the Reich, just because Rezua says it is unfair? Will we terminate our alliance with Sangaria, just because Wintchester doesn't like it? Will we end trade with Zanera, just because Smoya says so? NEVER! We will not! We shall not! We will not become vassals! We will not let the weak, the petty, dictate to the great! We will not give in! We will not return Rezua's land! We will not give back Tresnslav! In the Soviet a bill was passed that gives the President the ability to leave the USA at any time. This is because the Soviet stated that the President has on chance to keep the USJR in the USA, unless the USA motions to harm the USJR in any way.

Mortomer Reduces Nukes



Jamestown, 5:41 PM Today, at 12 PM Jamestown Standard Time, Minister of International Affairs Isaac Leon handed in the note that the USJR is leaving the United Sunalayan Assembly, effective immediately, by orders of the President. President Mortimer, at one o'clock, gave a press conference on the matter.

"We, the people of the United Soviets of the Jason Republic, are not willing to give our sovereignty to overlords. We are willing, however to talk. We are willing to negotiate. We are willing to conduct diplomacy. We are a people of good will. I am ordering the reduction of the Soviet's trigger nuclear weapons, and an over all reduction of nuclear weapons over the next decade. I am here to state that the Soviet will not, under my administration, place nuclear weapons in space."

The President also stated that the city of Jamestown will continue to host diplomatic envoys and house diplomats with the rules that are currently in place. Any remaining USA members will be allowed to use the building, thought the President hinted that it should be moved in his speech.

USJR Military Exercises

S.S.S. Cole Deploying 5th Core Troops

Azovskaya Here in the arctic circle, things are heating up. No, it isn't the temperature, it is tensions. At the first annual Arctic War Games, the USJR and Azovskaya have showcased their new military alliance and military cooperation. On the other side of the continent, Aznazia, Rhodevus, and Oblearn, are also practicing.

The War-Games come after the new Azovskaya-Soviet Military Alliance, which allows for the USJR to build radar and military stations in the nation of Azovskaya. The public intention of these bases are 'self defense' in the arctic theater. Several USJR warships are partaking in the event, which has an unnamed "assailant" deploying troops in the arctic. The Jamestown Journal has been given an inside look at the war game. In one scenario, the USJR deployed troops into a combat zone by breaking through arctic ice. After this mounover the submarine submerged back into the ice, leaving the infantry to take up positions on the cold tundra, a few hundred meters away. The USJR has conducted mining, anti-submarine, and paratroop drops in the arctic. The games will continue for another two weeks.

President Supports Free Ruthenia


Jamestown President Grimpen Mortimer gave a special press conference today in which he outlined his support of the Ruthenian referendum in Andromedia. Speaking after the Minister of Defense gave the USJR's stance on Tamaria, the President wore his classic suit and tie to address the public. He spoke in front of the King's Court, the center for most diplomatic meetings.

"Today, I speak to you as someone who firmly believes in individual rights. The Republics firmly support the right of self determination within the boarders of sovereign nations. Cooperation is key for nations, but so is their inherent right of sovereignty. I am here to pledge my support of a free and democratic Ruthenia. I am here to state that the United Soviets of the Jason Republic will support the independence of a freed Ruthenia, and will stand by a valid and scandal free referendum. We have the utmost confidence in the decision the people, within their sovereign powers, make. This goes for all nations, all people. We support sovereignty. We will not see the chains of tyranny be used to oppress nations. We will support the decision of the people."

ASSASSINATION OF TAMARIA PRIME MINISTER


BREAKING NEWS: FEDERAL QUARTER, JAMESTOWN 11:30 AM JST.

Prime Minister Mark Rias has been killed while meeting with President Grimpen Mortier at the King's Court in Jamestown. The two leaders were meeting to discuss trade and diplomatic relations between Tamaria and the Soviet Republics. President Mortimer was meeting with Prime Minister Rias during the assassination. Early reports from the Federal Quarter indicate that the attack was carried out just as the meeting between the two leaders was wrapping up. President Mortimer is reported to be safe and has had no harm done against him. The Federal Quarter of Jamestown is currently in a state of lock down. Police have closed off all enterences to the quarter.

An early statement by Federal Quarter Police has stated that the two assailants were accompanying Prime Minister Rias in his diplomatic envoy to the USJR, and were present during the entire duration of their talks. Sources inside of the quarter have leaked to the Journal that these two men were agents of Her Majesty of Tamaria's goverment, killed the Prime Minister, and continued to commit suicide. It is unclear whatever or not the attackers had the opportunity to attack the President.

A source close to the Minister of International Affairs, which wishes to remain anonomys, stated that the Queen of Tamaria asked the USJR to arrest the PM for crimes against her people. It is currently unclear at this time whatever or not those actions were taken.

Mortimer Condemns INTFIX

Jamestown, Federal Quarter 10:57 JST President Grimpen Mortimer addressed the nation, and the world, this morning on the current situation in Eklavozskia. The President has not spoken in several days on the matter, despite an obvious uptick in military operations from the western boarder of the USJR, Southern Sunrisia and Divergia. Many expected that his remarks would touch upon the Sunrisian claims of USJR deployment of ground troops. This claim has so far not been supported, as the goverment has only approved the use of airstrikes. But, with the creation of INTFIX, trains and planes have been publicly sent to Eklavozskia.

The People of these Republics are firmly committed to the sovereignty of our allies. As thus, we will at all costs defend our allies from western invaders. These invaders, under the guise of peacekeeping, are steaming to war. The International Force in Xcad is an effort to prop up the ailing terrorists in northern Eklavozskia. These countries have banded together, to intervene in an affair that does not support the freedom of people. INTFIX is backing an organization of thugs bent on restoring a monarchy. INTFIX is bent on using the guise of aid to violate the sovereignty of nations. INTFIX is backing up to the policies of old, of imperialism. Their lies, of our sons being on Eklavozskian soil, are a fabrication. We, the USJR, have backed the Eklavozskian goverment in an effort to bring the terrible violence to a close while supporting the people, a republic. INTFIX is rubbing salt in the wound of international relations.

Their gunboat diplomacy does not sway us. We, the people, are united in the cause of supporting nations of righteous governments, deriving their sovereignty from the people.

The arms of the United Soviets of the Jason Republic are committed to the defense of our ally, Eklavozskia. As thus, if there is any violation of Eklavozskian territory, or infringement on their sovereignty that constitutes an act of hostilities, we will rush to the aid of our dear comrades, the people of Eklavozskia. For all foreign nationals in Eklavozskia, who have not received the permission of the rightful goverment of Eklavozskia to carry out humanitarian aid, we warn them that their actions may sadly lead to conflict.

The cloak of Humanitarian aid is a violation of sovereignty. May I remind my friends around the world that humanitarian aid of any sort but by approved by the goverment, and its transportation arranged and approved by the recipient. May we all help those in need, but in the proper way. My goverment will halt any vessel that does not have clearance of the Eklavozskian goverment, and holds the right to bring down any aircraft not registered with the Eklavozskian goverment for humanitarian purposes.

INTFIX has already been shaken by the might of us, the people, my comrades! We have foiled their plots of an intervention. While we seek cooperation, we will teach all those who violate the sovereignty of nations that such actions lead to conflict. All diplomacy must be conducted with respect.

Foreign Minister Dissapointed in "Atoms of War"

Jamestown Minister of International Affairs Isaac Leon released a statement to the media detailing the USJR's position on the nuclear programs announced by several western countries. These announcements follow the Creperian goverment announcing the continuation of an old program. In response, South Sunrisia and North Sunrisia (with the aid of Rhodevus) have backtracked on their disarmament commitments.

The recent announcements from several countries around the globe is disappointing. It is a shame that these nations are resorting to nuclear weapons in an effort to keep the peace. These horrific weapons are not needed to keep the peace in our world. Rather, we must be ready to resort our disputes through diplomacy over rash military action. The fact of the matter is that through cooperation and diplomacy, nearly three quarters of the nations cooperating or building nuclear programs should not be resorting to these weapons. The remainder should know that their defense does not rely on the ultimate deterrent.

The USJR is committed to the reduction of its nuclear arsenal, as it announced several months ago after leaving the United Sunalayan Assembly. All told, the USJR will be disarming two thousand nuclear warheads, and instead be using this material in power plants. These weapons, adopted from the times of Ophion, are a odious burden. These Atoms for War must instead be turned to Atoms of Peace. Nuclear power will help Sunalaya not through bombs, but through power.

Further more, we are disappointing that some nations choose to pass on the burden of these weapons to others, while they themselves attempt to wash their sin of being a nuclear state themselves. We will remind those nations who still are apart of the USA that their actions are in direct contradiction to USA Resolution 4, an article which many of the perpetrators helped to write themselves.

Despite backing Aznazian efforts to halt nuclear proliferation, many suspect that the effort will fail. Political punants call out the west on building new arsenals despite the creation of WeSTO, and South Sunrisia going back on its formal obligation to at least not enlarge its weapons program. The construction of warheads, missiles, silos, and machines that can carry such weapons is expected to take several years. In the meantime. Many also call this new wave the latest form of tension between factions within the west as a result of the division of Sunrisia.

Ventismar/Ophion Strategic Defense Initiative Announced

Jamestown In a sudden joint press conference by the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of International Affairs, a rare occurrence, a spokeswoman for both ministries has announced a new program for the USJR, and several other nations. The conference, held in the Federal Quarter of Jamestown, was a very sudden affair, no doubt highlighting the fears coming to light as a result of global nuclear escalation. Already, the USJR has denounced the creation and renewal of nuclear programs across the globe. Many speculate that the establishment of military bases across the globe can only add to the growing fire of this geo-political issue. For years, the Reich and USJR have cooperated in missile defense, building upon the Ophion-age High-Altitude-Interceptor and Continental Defense System-3, a low altitude interceptor. Many point out that the flaw in these systems is that they only intercept in the final stage of a ballistic warhead's decent. This gives the system, which is based in mobile platforms, three chances to intercept such a missile. This may change soon, with the press release made by the goverment.

PRESS STATMENT
Since the creation of weapons of mass destruction, the world has lived in fear of these weapons. This fear is justified. The proliferation of these weapons is a danger to the world. Without a doubt, the greatest threat to mankind is its use of these weapons. As such, we must try to defend ourselves from these weapons of mass destruction.
Many punits speculate that the new system will be based off old Ophion programs that were canceled in 1997 as a result of budget woes. At the time, the program was called science fiction, with many of the ideas brought to the table being too costly or ahead of its time.

We may not know the weapons that fight the next world war, but we know the one after will be fought with sticks and stones. In the defense of civilization, it is clear that we must have a shield. With the cooperation of the Reich, Superfruitland, and the USJR, we hope to create this shield.

It is our hope that, with a combination of disarmament and the VOSDI, the world can live without fear of destruction.

STOPING A MELTDOWN


BREAKING NEWS Even before the passage of Emergency USA Security Council 10, the USJR military confirmed that it had been in contact with the Eklavozski goverment in-exile, about the current nuclear crisis. The administration has stated that it has the permission of this body to help stem and cope with the current meltdown declared at the Klujin Nuclear Power Plant, home to one reactor that has had its containment breached, and coolant system damaged.

In a brief press statement, the Ministry stated that it is deploying USJR troops to aid in the defense of other nuclear facilities in Eklavozski, and that engineers, combat troops, and fire-fighting supplies has been sent to the Klujin Nuclear Power Plant. Imagery from the facility suggests that the engineers are currently dumping water from nearby lakes, aquifers, and rivers in an attempt to cool off the reactor rods. The current state of the plant, its fuel, and ideas to stop the meltdown, have not been released to the public.

This effort comes as the Party Soviet in Jamestown has overridden the President, and has officially rejoined the USA. This situation has been an awkward discussion point for President Grimpen Mortimer, who has used every weapon in his arsenal in an attempt to prevent the USJR from rejoining the USA. However, as soon as it was clear the USJR was to rejoin, several new members to the Security Council were approved.

In addition to helping to address the reactor, the Ministry of Defense has begun calculations on the potential damage of this nuclear incident. The Ministry of Defense has stated that it will ship iodine pills to civilians in the affected area. Since the USJR does not comply with the Linear-No threshold model, soldiers and engineers in the area are at less of a risk of damage from radiation, but the risk is still massive is containment is not established and coolant not added to the reactor.

SMALLER BOMBS ARE ADDING FUEL TO NUCLEAR FEAR

As nations in the west are raming up new and old nuclear programs, watched by all the world, the Mortimer administration was preparing a test of its own in the Leona Desert. A fighter jet took off with a mock version of the nation's first precision-guided atom bomb. Adapted from an older weapon, it was designed with problems like North Sunrasia in mind: Its computer brain and four maneuverable fins let it zero in on its deeply buried targets like testing tunnels and weapons sites. And its yield,, the bomb's explosive force, can be dialed up or down depending on the target, to minimize collateral damage.

In short, while western nations plan on going big- planning to develop atomic and hydrogen bombs, the Energy Ministry and Ministry of Defense have been readying a line of weapons headed in the opposite direction. The build-it-smaller approach has set off a philosophical clash amoung those in Jamestown who think about the unthinkable.

Mr. Mortimer has long advocated a "nuclear free world." His lieutenants argue that modernizing existing weapons can produce a smaller and more reliable arsenal while making their use less likely because the threat they can pose. The changes, they say, are improvments rather than wholesale redesigns, fufilling the President's pledge to make no new nuclear weapons. But critics, including a number of former Mortimer administration officials, look at the same facts and see a very different picture. The explosive innards of the revitalized weapons may not be new, they argue, but the smaller yields and bigger targeting can make the arms more tempting to use- even to use first rather than in retaliation.

Gen. Albeva Hem, a retired vice chairmen of the Soviet Air Defense Service, who was among Mr. Mortimer's most influentual nuclear strategists, said he backed the upgrades because presice targeting allowed the United Soviets to hold fewer weapons. But "what going smaller does," he acknowledged, "is to make the weapon more thinkable."

The debate has deep implications for the military strategy, federal spending and legacy of the President.

The JB61, the bomb tested flight tested in Leona Desert, is the first of five new warheads types planned as apart of an atomic revitalization estimated to cost around 500 Billion Jasoons over the next three decades. As a family, the weapons and their delivery systems move towards the small, the stealthy, and the precise. Already, some speculate that this goverment project may be the cause of the efforts to raise western nuclear deterrents.

The more immediate problem for the Oopt is that many of its alumni have raised questions about the modernization push and missed opportunities for arm control. "It is unaffordable and unneeded", said Alex Trev, a former assistant secretary for defense and former director of the Nuclear Weapons Council, a body that oversees the country's nuclear weapons. He cited the cost, 15 Billion Jasoons for 1,000 weapons.

"The President has the opportunity to set the stage for a global ban on nuclear cruse missiels. It's a big deal in terms of reducing the likely hood of nuclear war," he said.

Many in the administration cite the need to modernize as the most effective way to reduce the USJR's aging nuclear arsenal. Many in the party protest at this idea, and have sworn to prevent these efforts. Despite this, the time frame and costs are no doubt massive, and many doubt future Presidents will continue this plan.
