Anti-Semitism, anti-Protestantism, Islamophobia and just about any other religious hatred was when we were established as a French colony in 1579. Lacamarie was established for dogmatic, puritanical, tee-totaling super-Catholics and tolerance for other religions was low. This meant that while Catholic nationals from modern-day Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Ireland and Romania were welcomed with open arms, anybody from a Protestant country or its colonies was despised. Anglophobia and Germanophobia was rampant. Unfortunate immigrant who stumbled upon the island were made pariahs and eventually would be expelled completely in 1692.
Since the colony gained independence and became the Duchy of Lacamarie, this has significantly subsided, especially when religious freedom was granted in 1826. English and Germans are still relatively small ethnic groups but have since been integrated into society just like the Hawaiians, Africans and Vietnamese who once experienced discrimination in Lacamarie. There are small pockets of extremism, however, these have little political pull. Though Lacamarie remains religious and largely Catholic, ethnic/religious nationalism is a shadow of the past.
As for eugenics, such programs were proposed in 1828, 1852, 1870, 1878 and 1942, but were struck down in each attempt accept the 1852 project. In this project, 68 impoverished teenagers were studied and deemed pure Catholics by both biologists and clergy. These teens, a diverse mix of French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Irish, Romanian and Cape Verdean, were given subsistence compensation to have at least 12 children (extra money was given for more). The program was showing good progress, churning out four children by March 1853 (only eight months after launching the program). However, Anne-Marie St. Bernard, a mother of one of the participants appealed the case and had the eugenics program shut down by the Supreme Appellate Court. In 1870, this was revisited when Grand Duchess Serene II decided to overrule the 1853 decision to no long-term avail.
In 1943, hate crimes on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, national origin and gender were outlawed under the threat of harsh punishment and torture. Since then, several other laws have been passed to protect Lacamarie from racism, anti-Semitism and eugenics.
