Australia is a Federation, founded in 1901. We are divided into states. We also have territories, but they go by different rules

We have several star systems either under our direct control or under heavy influence, a strong military, the will to use it (with some OoC-limitations), but are quite good to be around.
And if someone has a problem, revolts, even? Then Celestia herself comes and tries to first talk peacefully with the protesters, with the Dawnbringer in orbit. She is kind of benevolent.

Supreme power is vested in the national government, but cultural and linguistic matters are generally transferred to the regional level. Alsheb is divided in 6 provinces, which we call Republics, divided around ethno-cultural lines.

The biggest province with by far the most population is the Republic of Al Watan, popularly called the "Arab province". This is the province in which most of the Arab population of Alsheb lives (around 74% of Alshebians are ethnically Arab).
Secondly is the Republic of Kurdistan. As the name says it, this is a Kurdish region, in which the lingua franca is Kurmanji Kurdish.
The Turkmen Republic is home to the Turkmen population of Alsheb.
The Republic of Assyria is the home of the Syriac-Arameans and Assyrians, and is mostly Christian when it comes to religion.
The Circassian Republic is the province mostly inhabited by Circassians, a North Caucasian people related to the Abkhazians.
The Armenian Republic, lastly, is home to Alsheb's Armenian population, many of whom came to Alsheb after the Armenian Genocide in Turkey.

It uses the oblast system for local government and has multiple occupied territories - most notably Turkey - and colonies, all fully integrated into the state (via force or otherwise) and answering directly to the central government in Sunikagrad.

The Prut Meritocracy is an unitary syndicate, based around anarchist and meritocratic principles. There is a subdivision into five realms with their own, local autonomous administration, but the autonomy is only on the operational level, not on the national/strategic level, and the five realms are only organised as such because their territories are separated by a large body of water with several other nations between them. It's merely a practicality due to the pluricontinental nature of Prut sovereign territory.
