Uh.
Vikings did sail those too.

Sure they did. But for them traveling down a river was only an excursion after they had traversed the seas. It's different to living on and raiding along the same river full time.

What makes you think river vikings are not into ramming as well? Seriously, how else do you imagine river battles being thought if not by ramming your opponents ship, boarding it and spearing the enemy to death?

Unless you have specially modified longships suited to ramming, which I don't think would be possible, you'd do more damage to your own vessel. Iberians used Trimremes, or at least vessels similar to them. You'd done get fukked.

Well longships were really things used for sea travel. Purpelian river vikings would use ships that are more akin to galleys.

Low draft and light weight of longships make them perfeft riverine craft.

Can they be rowed around effectively? Because rowing is going to be a major thing if there are to be riverline ship to ship battles.

Galleys after the 10th century and maybe even ealier would have been better than longships in both rivers and open seas. They maneuvered better, had better sails and had more manpower. I think most of them would have been much higher too, so I'd hate to be in a longship getting pelted by them.

Yup and they can be carted across country which is always a very useful for outflanking other river forces.
Ramming in river battles also doesn't strike me as being hugely useful as its only really doable if you can sail straight down river into folks and a ram would likely bugger msot of the good bits of a longship (light weight, easy handling and good beaching characteristics).

Basically I imagine a time where ships are expensive. So taking ships whole is beneficial. So my vikings think up some sort of way to board and capture each others ships. But am stuck as to how.

Combined arms attack by galleys and longships: couple galleys are sailed down the river, while swarm of longboats are portaged on foot and deployed at suitable location to outflank the enemy riverine craft to take them by surprise...
...
...
This relates to infantry exactly how? :p

Boarding parties. These are regular viking warriors that board your ship from their ship to make your life hell. So it's naval infantry.

Just do what vikings actually did: get close enough and use grapples and lines to lash the ships together for a proper shield wall contest. if they could do this in the baltic and north seas then its doable on rivers. Yes boats would make deliberate contact but it really wouldn't be ramming.

This man is right; Fordorsia, they are the same sword, and of a pattern that was readily abandoned everywhere in the western world when the opportunity arose.

I know, but no one says kopis, a Greek word, when referring to an Iberian sword, especially since the swords are not related. They use the word most assosiated with it, which is falcata.
