Background
[hr]
The SARR-56 was designed to replace the venerable SAM-12 rifle which was becoming increasingly inefficient as barrels were worn out and insurgent forces found themselves in possession of automatic weapons which left the security forces at a major disadvantage. Due to cost concerns the Defence Ministry decided to adopt a semi-automatic conversion of the SAM-12 as the new Kalumban service rifle. However severe issues in the conversion process led to the resulting rifle having very little in common with its 'predecessor'.
The weapon was found to have series reliability issues, due to the rushed conversion process and the sub-standard materials used in the construction of the weapon. This forced the adoption of foreign weapons, and eventually the indigenous Shambulio Bunduki-72.
Construction and Design
[hr]
The SARR-56 is a direct impingement design which reduced the number of bolt moving parts to only six: the bolt carrier, then the rear locking tilting bolt which carries the extractor, the ejector and the firing pin, and lastly the recoil spring. In spite of the relativity simplicity of the design it was found to be increasingly unreliable, especially when used in the harsh sandy conditions of the Kalumban bush.
The sights of the weapon were an interesting and ultimately flawed design. The entire rear sight block was adjusted along a rail with 100m increments. As the weapon was made of sub-standard materials the rail quickly wore out, making it impossible to sight, and even when in perfect condition the sight was easily knocked a notch or two when a soldier was moving leading to missed shots and unnecessary casualties.
Variants
[hr]
The SARR-562 comes in two of variants:
- SARR-56 - The standard rifle
- SARR-56/70 - A lightened version with a scope mount

So then folks, this suitably hefty (.565 (maybe .582) inch chambered) revolver needs a locking mechanism and a potentially better designed grip.
any advice on either criteria?
