Huh, looking through that APP06B doc I can't find a symbol for generic 'special weapons', though I've found the relevant ones for mortars, HMGs and ATGMs. Does anyone know what that symbol is, if there is one?

What the fuck is a coilgun

It's a type of projectile accelerator consisting of one or more coils used as electromagnets in the configuration of a linear motor that accelerate a ferromagnetic or conducting projectile to high velocity. Also known as a Gauss gun.

Do you know if a handheld coilgun- specifically multistage, as part of a rifle that's 110 cm long- is usable? I've heard of hobbyists building single-stage ones, but I'm not sure about a multistage coilgun.

It's physically possible but has plenty of issues, primarily power supply and capacitance.
Multi-stage guns have the additional issue of timing between the stages. If the timing is off, it will impair the acceleration.

When my cousin was studying physics I'm pretty sure he kept telling me that multi-stage coils will actually directly interfere with one another, and limit the acceleration even in a well-timed design.

One guy built an automatic multistage coilgun powered by batteries (Not caps). He timed it with some small IR sensors and some large diodes or something. Apply just enough power to saturate the coil, then as soon as the projectile (as long as a coil) is no longer detected at the rear, the coil is shut off.

Through re-doing my Battalion-level numbers (i.e. how many people are in each REME Bn, or RE Reg or what-have-you), and lowering the number of Mechanised Infantry Divisions there are, I've managed to increase the size of my deployable regular forces by 10 Armoured Divisions, 3 Light Divisions and one Airborne Division, at a net increase of 11 Divisions. to 20 Armoured, 10 Mechanised, 6 Amphibious, 7 Light and 7 Airborne.

I really screwed it up the first time.

So, NS doesnt really work like the real world. EVERYONE has armadas of supercarriers. Trying to RP with 15 escorts against 5 supercarriers? Thats about, what 450 planes vs 300planes. Assuming the small carriers have 20 planes each, and the supercarriers each have 90 planes, mental math gives me roughly equal price per plane (super is 4 bill, escort is 1 bill). But in NS, people focus on ONE main theatre most of the time. You would much rather have a large concentration of force. I see your arguement in the real world, but in NS? Huge fleets and megaships give all the more reason for megacarriers over escorts.

Concentration of force means concentration of targets. A submarine can sink both a "supercarrier" and a "megacarrier" all the same, but one leaves the target down $5 billion and a fraction of his air power, and the other leaves him down $50 billion and his entire theater's air contingent. The size of *NS* means that aircraft flying from a single point could not cover an entire theater effectively, in which case a carrier force capable of greater dispersal would be more useful.

What is the military use of a megacarrier?

It could probably be heard from miles away dependent on hull design, is a big friggin target that costs a metric shitton or two, and could not be in more than one place at a time. What exactly would be the benifit to a huge carrier over several (2-3) small ones?

Up to a point, a larger hull means more space for aircraft and the ability to operate larger aircraft more effectively. A single large carrier will also generally require fewer crew than a host of smaller ships since fewer positions would be duplicated. Of course, beyond a certain point increases in size bring diminishing returns, as the extra space is no longer as useful. This isn't a fixed point though.
