Spain has always been a rival of the United Batavian States. Back in the 16th and 17th century Spain occupied the low countries, but the Dutch rebelled against the Spanish and so the 80 Years War began. The Dutch pushed the Spanish back to their own land after the Dutch annexation of Belgium, Luxembourg and France, thus creating the United Batavian States.

The Batavians dislike Spanish ever since.

We consider Spanish very important, because it is our official language (along with Russian). In addition, all of our allies and trading partners are Spanish-speaking nations. Nearly all of our population understands the language, as it is taught in every school grade from preschool up to secondary school.

Spanish is a rare language in Chisur, it is mostly spoken by immigrants. However, the East Chisur University provides at least two languages as a requirement for students. Spanish is one of them, and the most popular choice of students in that university, along with German.

It has no official status, most Spanish speakers in Auzkhia are immigrants or tourists from Spain, Mexico, Cuba, and South America.
Immigration from the Hispanophone countries is very small.

1) A variant of Spanish called "Meshikan Spanish" is co-official with English in our nation. It has extensive Arabic loanwords (more so than Standard Spanish) and is written almost exclusively in the Arabic Script instead of the Latin alphabet.
2) Very important, being one of the primary languages of education, commerce and politics.
3) About 98% speak Meshikan Spanish, either as a first language, or in the case of foreigners, as a second language.
4) Meshikan Spanish is obligatory at all grade levels along with English.

-There are 0.3% Native Speakers and about 1.2% have some formalization of Spanish.
-Most Oswalds go for Esperanto, Latin, and Classical Greek for a second language. There is really no need to learn Spanish.

Spanish can be learned at the university (although it's by far not the most common third language, but still enjoying some popularity), but there are only few native Spanish speakers, so it has no official status as a minority language.

While we are a free, wealthy, prosperous, progressive and open nation, Kingtonian society remains relatively monolingual and culturally homogeneous. Outside of the various migrant communities in our largest cities, Spanish is virtually non-existent as either a spoken or written language in Kington Langley. As a result, it doesn't hold official status within in either the national or local government spheres.

-No.
-I'm sure there's at least a couple people who speak it. ._.'
-Most learn Russian or French/English (Depending on the province from which they hail)

Spanish isn't extremely important, because it isn't any kind of language Mapellans commonly come across. The ones they do, in decreasing popularity, are English, French, Russian, Japanese, Pacific Island languages such as Polynesian (etc..)
If Spanish became more popular in the USA, more people in Mapelum might consider learning it, but there'd need to be at least a 50% fluency of the language in at least one of our neighbours for it to be relevant.

Spanish language and culture is a big part of our islands. In 1790, mutineers from a Spanish galleon took refuge on the islands and imparted much of the language and culture of Spain. About 40% of the population speaks Spanish. As such, it is afforded official language status, along with English and Hawaiian.
