Your Military's Camo Patterns

Postby Southern United Africa » Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:20 pm

Post the camouflage patterns used by your military.

The SUA military uses 4 patterns of camouflage:

Image
Desert 1- This is the most widely used pattern of the the SUA military. It is used in desert and desert urban environments. It is also the standard pattern of the special forces.

Image
Desert 2- The first pattern used by the SUA military. It is still worn, although often mixed with the Desert 1 pattern (ex. a Desert 1 shirt with Desert 2 pants).

Image
Desert Savannah- This pattern is suitable for use in marsh and desert brush as well as Savannah environments. It is mostly used by special forces and VIP guards.

Image
SUA Woodland- This pattern utilizes a series of grids of various colors of both squares and intersecting lines to trick the naked eye.
NOTE: This nation is NO LONGER called Southern United Africa as of May 2010. It is now known as the Federal Republic of South Africa.

We have giant starfleets.

No real need for camo, given that visual sightings are like impossible.

We use a jungle camo pattern consisting of various shades of green. We have also experimented with actual leaf prints but we couldn't detect any improvement in performance.

Interestingly, we were told once that black does not necessarily make the best nighttime camo. We were told, instead, that standard camo should be equally effective under all lighting conditions. We discovered, however, that the dyes in our uniforms do not behave the same under all lighting conditions. They don't exactly glow in the dark but they are, in fact, more visible than plain black. Hence, our commandos are using black for nighttime missions until improved dyes are found or developed.

Woodland/swamp = Classical Green, Brown, and black splatters.
Desert = Plain Khaki. Lay down with that and you'll start to blend in.
Artic = Same thing as Desert, but with white.

Usually our obviousness and size is an advantage, since it ruins the morale of puny enemies. Therefore most of us don't use camo at all, preferring instead to bear down on mouse-sized opposition and intimidate it into either surrendering or fleeing.

When we really need camo, for instance on stealth recon missions, our spies use a special coating that is controlled by our CPUs. The effect is like that of a chameleon; the colors and patterns change depending on what we see is around us.

http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00014.php Ordinators are often seen wearing the archaic Swiss Leibermeister, in an appropriate colour scheme. Special operations at night will use one tinted with dark purple as opposed to black. Due to the Ballistic shields and heavy armour used by our infantry, camouflage is often not as effective as other nation's. In full military parade, an urban version with purple detailing is used.

http://www.kamouflage.net/camouflage/00080.php The 'reed' pattern serves our military vehicles well, appropriate recolours for terrain, as with our infantry. It gives our vehicles a distinctive appearance when viewed at standby, and has earned the local nickname of 'papyrus-pattern' amongst ground forces.

Air vehicles are variegated, darker colour on top and lighter on the bottom. Bombers will wear a tigerstripe camouflage pattern along their topside, and splotches of pale blues along the underside

The Imperial Assembly has, however, recently opened trials for a new semi-universal camouflage pattern, the leading possibility is the Roggenwolf 'Warg' http://www.roggenwolf.com/camouflage/warg.php and it's derivative patterns

Being slightly more advanced, we use LED covered fabric to mimic the surroundings around the soldier, but since we rarely go to war, we can afford to spend large amounts of money on our military.

Urban camouflage (it's not actually issued, but the design is there) is a matte gray.

And now some adorable JG sprites:

This is our multipurpose camouflage pattern; the pattern used for desert climates is generally a lot paler.

Wikipedia and Universe uses many patterns of camouflage and even experiments with foreign patterns for testing. The patterns fielded include (but are NOT limited to):

Image
MARPAT- Clockwise from the top left are Desert, Woodland, Winter, and Urban (The winter pattern was developed after the fact by us). Another MARPAT winter pattern can be found here.

Image
Tri-Texture Disruptive Multispectral Pattern (TTDMP) Woodland (top) and Desert (bottom)- Developed by creating small digitized irregular shapes and checkering them with two colors. The result is three textures seen at different distances. Pixels are actual size.

Image
TTDMP Winter and Urban- Winter is at the top and Urban is at the bottom. These are the urban and winter versions of the Tri-Tex pattern. Pixels are actual size.

Image
Tactical Fractal Disruptive Pattern (TFDP)- Developed from MARPAT, the TFDP pattern was altered by slightly chnging the colors, shrinking the pixels, and adding cross-pixels as a depth-based disruptive feature. Pixels shown are actual size.

Wikipedia and Universe also utilizes MulitCam, Unicam, X-camo, and a spectrum of other patterns produced by Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp., Roggenwolf, and other various designers.
