Erm, let's see...

Only 6GB of RAM, with an i7 Q740 and an Nvidia GTS 360M with 1GB of dedicated VRAM. It's a few years old, though, and it's all in a laptop package - wheezing along dutifully with the best of them. :P

Yes, it is my first. However, I have been working on it for some time.

My earlier versions (as I just discovered) had the issue of having a main gun that was twice as wide at the bore than it should have been. I really should have found that out earlier, but it took me until last night. Now that I remodeled the main gun and many other parts of the vehicle, I can start going onto the finer details.

Yeah, the basic shape has turned out very well. I think this will turn out to be a very nice tank.
Good luck with it. I am kinda handy with Sketchup. Should you have any questions you would like to ask me, send me a TG.

I would recommend going to the 3D panning feature in the middle of the interface.

It looks like a tank, which is more than can be said about anything I've tried in 3D. It looks like a good one at that, which is way out of my league. :P

- The turret seems a bit large on that chassis, however - I think you could do with a slightly flatter turret, or possibly a slightly taller chassis (or a combination of both).
- Gunners thermals probably need to be a little bit bigger.
- No commander's independent sight? Or is that incorporated into the RWS? If it's the little thing in the middle of the turret, it needs to be a fair bit bigger.
- RWS at the back seems to be quite trendy these days - do remember, though, the further it is from the commander's hatch, the harder it is to reload.

Looks really rather good! Will be watching to see how this develops :)

Im currently investing in parts, buying my motherboard and HDD tomorrow. I gutted out my old custom gaming pc and going to use the case, wiring, fans, disc drive, sound card, graphics card (as a backup) and its HDD (set to 'slave' to the new one im buying) as well as its two Memory sticks in conjunction with the new one I'm buying. My over costs are divided into a new motherboard, CPU, PSU, Liquid Cool Parts, Graphics Card, Memory Stick, and HDD. Most of the parts and wiring in my old one is very very high end parts so I figured why not, saved myself about 200+ Dollars.
Just a average person! Is that too straight forward?

Mine it is pretty new. I have it for around 6-7 months. As top end as I could get with my set budget.
I am getting a GTX 770 or 770 Ti as soon as I find some time to take my PC for it to be fitted. The GTX 650 is doing a lot of things I did not expect. This one goes in my brothers PC.

Okay, stop, hand on.

Before you start posting tons of stuff like this, take a step back and do these three simple things.

i) Look at real tanks. Find source images, look at the technical attributes, figure out what you need, what certain things look like and so on.
ii) Consider what it is that you want to draw - your influences, your intended role, gun size, turret layout etc. It'll help you come up with a slightly more coherent image at the end.
iii) Draw the thing, and look back at it. Does it look like a real tank, and does it look like what you wanted? If it ticks both of those boxes, you're set to go - but not before.

I did. Inspiration came from the Leopard 2 and Bradly IFV. It was made for urban infantry support with a large gun for destroying buildings. I think it looks like a tank and turned out pretty good for a second attempt.

Way better than the first time, you're getting there.
However, looking at the tank, your suspension is too short for your chassis. Your side skirts hang down very far, and the drawing still isn't very detailed. Lineart is with pencil tool snapped for straight lines, if you go the pixel route. Shapes are generally reserved for flash or other vector programs, and are harder to use.

For the record, this was my first attempt.

It's not that I have any intrinsic ability or anything - I just spent more time looking into source images and technological aspects, and on the lineart itself. There's no rush - spend more time working on the lineart and developing it, and it'll turn out better. It doesn't have to take ages - but if you spend two or three hours on a single piece, it'll definitely look better than something you whacked up in ten minutes.

There's my problem. The version of paint that I use doesn't have layers or the ability to really "cut out" the tracks, wheels or guns from that pack thing. Nor do I understand how to make reuseable circles for rivets. Also, how the fuck did you get that paint-job all over your tank?

Revolutions inevitably create a distinction between the 'enlightened' revolutionary leadership and the rest of the people, though.

we can totally go and burn Fordorsia's tanks, though, as long as it doesn't interrupt my six hour lunch break

Actually I just remembered that on my most recent set of tracks, the drive sprocket's teeth don't even line up with the track pins.

Question to the thread: Convoy markers and vehicle lighting. What do you use for your vehicle lighting and convoy marker lights?

Yukonastan follows the German prototype closely, which means a left side blackout headlight and a Leitkreus on the back of every vehicle to mark it. There are also blackout brake and turn lights, underneath the standard brake and turn lights.

There are four lighting conditions.
0: No visible light whatsoever, not even infrared.
1: Blackout left headlight, and Leitkreus on the back of the vehicle are illuminated. Infrared brake and turn lights are enabled.
2: Same as condition 1, except that blackout brake light and turn light are visible light instead of infrared.
3: Full illumination, including Leitkreuze at night, but locking out all other blackout lights.

As for lighting, all the lights use a 24v bus system and are wired to a control panel, which has a blackout switch on it to choose condition 1 thru 3, and a second blackout switch to choose condition 0, killing the exterior lighting bus.

For the normal lights there are two headlights and two turn lights on the front of the vehicle, two turn lights right over the front roadwheel on top of the armor of tracked vehicles, and in the top rear corner of the front wheel well of wheeled vehicles, to be seen from the side. On the rear there are two brake/turn/backup lights, and on the roof is a flashing orange beacon that can be detached and stored inside the vehicle.

I completely forgot about lights and lighting.

On a side note, what do people start with when making tanks? I started with the tracks and built my way up.
