Yes wheeled armored vehicles have some issues.
However unless you have 100000000000 dollars like the US, you can't afford a totally tracked APC force.

Licana on the M-21A2 MBT: "Well, it is one of the most badass tanks on NS."
Vortiaganica: Lamoni I understand fully, of course. The two (Lamoni & Lyras) are more inseparable than the Clinton family and politics.
Triplebaconation: Lamoni commands a quiet respect that carries its own authority. He is the Mandela of NS.

In how far is the normal M26 gun comparable to the Super Pershing version in a MT setting, given HEAT ammo for it?

Could somebody tell me what they think on the newest upgrade?

First, not even Category C units are equipped with T-34-85s and IS-2/3/4s anymore. They have T-55s almost exclusively, maybe some T-62s.
Also, 90mm HEAT ammo from a rifled gun is pitiful, even if you apply modern technology to it. The only WWII tank that can be realistically used in MT formations is the T-44, because it had (barely) enough room in the turret to mount the 100mm gun. Heck, you might be able to upgrade T-44s to 125mm guns. That would make for a laugh.

Using IS-2/3s as artillery has a certain symmetry to it, since the D-25T is a variant of the A-19 gun-howitzer.

Its a gun, it has no "minimum range".
