Tanks clearing a path through dense undergrowth, forest or jungle were afforded about three hours of dozing before being pulled out. It's very hard on engines. Remember a tank's basically an overweight dozer without a blade.

The T-55 enigma is a good example of an external NERA application. As you can see the blocks are quite hefty and each one contains many NERA tiles. But there is no reason why the NERA has to be on the outside. There are no explosives and no risk it will inflict collateral damage.

Too much trouble and it will tie up massive resources. Just create a USDOT.

Quite. However, do explain it to parliament or the senate as military construction projects, for use in times of emergency and war. Don't forget the nuke holes, which you dig and plug over, which are the exact size of your demolition charges. In case of invasion, dig up nuke hole, drop and arm nuke, and drive away.

Use the segments which are in friendly hands as runways and military main routes in case of invasion.

A tank requires two lanes to drive through and be able to maneuver the turret decently... so.

Apparently there are some vehicle lanes that are only 2.7 meters wide. So I guess it is possible in some limited way to build tiny one-lane roads that can't fit tanks (and of course nobody can stop a tank from using the sidewalk).

You are driving a tank down a street where you can't turn the turret, and your margin of error for ramming the tank into a fence is high enough to force you to drive slowly... and there's a chance a chain link fence will get stuck in the tracks.

Great idea. Sounds like a slapstick version of Kelly's Heroes.

A tank would require at least four metres of space in drive. Vehicles in a two-lane, opposing road require about two metres of space each, requiring about four metres of roadway.

Large cars, such as those beloved in the US, can be pushing 1.8m in width already, and road lanes are probably pushing 2.5m width anyway. Giving at least five metres of roadway, more than enough for tanks. Unless it's an alleyway, there will be space over the sidewalk to manoeuvre the gun barrel.
